Floyd pick just doesn't make sense to me.

I remember one of the very first mocks someone did and they had the Cards taking a WR. My response was why would you take a player who, at best, will be your #2 WR? I don't think Floyd is a bad player but I don't think he's great either.

Another reason it doesn't make sense is that this past free agency was one of the best ever for WR's and what do the Cards do, bring in Chaz Schillens for a visit. It's a position they could have addressed if they needed to.

I said earlier, the one thing the Cards could do that would upset me is pass on Ingram if he's there. So I guess I should've counted on it. He is the prototype OLB for Horton's scheme and brings a missing element to the team. Plus, mainly, he's a better football player than Floyd.

I don't hate the Floyd pick but it's confusing as to why he was even in the discussion at 13. If you make the likely assumption that Fitz will still be great and demand the ball, Housler will step up and be a bigger part of the passing game, and Roberts/Doucet will continue on an upward trend then why bring in another guy to catch the ball when the touches are going to be limited.

I guess I should just be glad they didn't take Riley Reiff.

I personally love the pick. We have 2 talented RBs and the best WR in the game, but NO support. Floyd will spread the field and be able to lend blocking support. I think he will improve our team more than any other player there was

I could have done with a LB or CB too though. I'm just happy we didn't reach (understatement) on Cordy Glenn that early...

On paper I agree and he was the best offensive weapon still on the board. But in reality, we have 2 RB's coming off knee surgeries and Floyd is not a stretch the defense type WR. I guess if both RB's are not 100% then the Cards will have to pass every play and maybe that is why the pick was made.

we pass a lot anyways. What makes you think he wont stretch the defenses though? Put him on 1 side, Fitz on the other, they wont be able to get away with focusing solely on Fitz

I can see your point. I just think that the Cards had a great defense the second half of last season and many of the players are young and improving including the OLBers in Scho and Acho. The offense on the other hand was near the bottom of the league. That would suggest that they need to draft offense. Michael Floyd was the BPA. Your arguement is more valid if were talking tackles rather than OLBers. Its not like Ingram is a Von Miller..

he never seemed to run away from college DB's so I don't expect him to be able to do that in the NFL. He has great hands and uses his size well but I never thought speed was his forte. Then again, ND didn't have the best guys throwing the ball to him and he was their #1 weapon that teams tried to shut down.

only time will tell, but he's not an Andre Roberts, who's shadow provides enough coverage to prevent him from making plays. The D has to actually be there, which should (theoretically) give Fitz a bit more room to breathe and keep our QB from getting blitzed every play

We were not going to address all our needs with one pick & Floyd was just TOO GOOD to pass up. CBus, I've watched this kid from day 1 & he's an absolute monster. The Rams were PISSED that we snatched him up just before their pick. I'm thrilled with the pick & he was definitely the best WR in this draft & probably the best WR to come out in a few drafts. He'll be a HUGE factor for years to come.

To me all it means is we really know who runs the organization. Fitz! There must be something in his contract like he gets to pick the 1st round choice every year or something like that.

Watch DeCastro become a perennial pro bowler for the Steelers.

That is what I am hoping for.

I do not like the pick, and never liked the idea of drafting Floyd. I think he is going to be more of a headache off the field, and a non-factor on.

I truly, truly hope to be 100% wrong. But, he better be the Patrick Peterson of WR's cause this organization still doesn't have a RT. They passed up of players that have serious potential in the non-sexy side of football.

When Pittsburgh drafted DeCastro I said, "And that is why the Steelers are always winning."

When the Patriots drafted Hightower I said, "And that is why the Patriots are always winning."

Now granted, I get to punch myself in the mouth a little, because I have been clamoring for a big-body possession WR since last offseason. Well, I got what I wish for, but in a way I am not comfortable with.

I like the WR, just not in the 1st round when you have a HORRIBLE pass blocking offensive line, two unproven QB's, an offense that is not able to carry a team, a HUGE hole at RT.

I dunno. Just don't like Floyd, never have, but hopefully I will feel very stupid, very soon and be proven wrong.

Here's what I don't get: What OLineman did people want them to take? The only one I would want is DeCastro and the Cards have plenty of guards. Reiff is better suited to play RT and we already have 3 guys that can play that position in Keith, Brown and Synder. Brown was a halfway decent RT. There was noone that could come in and play LT immediately. Cordy Glenn by all accounts is better suited to play guard and pass pro is not one of his strong points. There are still Olinemen to be picked up and the talent level at WR diminishes after Floyd moreso than Oline talent diminshing after Reiff. Floyd is going to surprise a lot of the naysayers. I think it was a solid pick and am looking forward to what they do the rest of this weekend.

I wanted a trade back more than anything. I didn't want us moving away from BPA but if we really did have a trade offer in place, Floyd better have been the only guy on the top shelf.

This, and two more words: Anquan Boldin. The Cards haven't replaced Q yet, realized what they missed about it, and are attempting to fix that.

Also people saying that Floyd gets no separation and isn't fast but. Was big and strong and could catch............same things said about Boldin. I would LOVE to have that back.

I'm actually happy with the pick.

My problem with the pick is below, I do hope he pans out and love that he draws comparisons to boldin.

We let Boldin and Breaston walk due to they wanting to be paid and not wanting to wrap up so much money into receivers. Fitz is only 29 and has a minimum 6 great years left in him. Floyds contract will be up for renewal in 3 years before his final year. At that time we are looking at paying him and wrapping up money - why drop proven good WRs and then jump into the same situation? Do we pay him or trade him while he has value and draft WR again? Just seems silly to let two great ones walk and then line back up into the same position.

Here is to hoping he becomes elite and either gets us some super high draft picks in 3 years or the tandem is so successful we go ahead and pay them both.

DeCastro was the lineman I thought would be the better pick, I guess.

Plenty of guards ? They have two. If DeCastro is BPA, then that is the guy. A OG/OC that can anchor a line devoid of leadership, talent, and attitude.

As for the pick itself, I guess it comes down to that fact I just don't like Floyd, and never really have.

Oh well. Hopefully, he proves me very wrong, and I will be very happy to be very wrong.

I'm fine with the pick but this point really hits home - replacing Q. It seems like that's what we do, we draft players to replace the ones we lost (like Dansby - DWash). It seems like we're always REacting to the situations we find ourselves in instead of being proactive, planning ahead and having guys ready to step up and actually take the job from the departing/underperforming players.

All that said, I am excited about this player. A major way he'll benefit our offense is his blocking. That should be huge for our run game, especially for the smaller Williams, giving him space outside to work with.
Also, having two big strong WR's on either side of the field should be great for our QB - when the pressure comes just chuck it up and let one of those guys go get it.

I'm not too concerned about the off the field stuff. He seems to have matured and hass Fitz as his role model. Also, being #2 should keep some attitude issues in check.

Kinda baffled on passing on Reiff and DeCastro but they must not have had them rated as high as many pundits did (probably supported by how far both fell).

Overall, I'm on board with this and look forward to seeing our offense transform into some sort of juggernaut.

Exactly! Man, the Steelers and Pats had to be saying, 'Thanks for passing on these studs' to us and other teams, while snickering behind their hands. Nothing wrong with Floyd talent-wise. I just think he was AT BEST the fourth-rated talent available when we picked.

I don't know who's comparing Floyd to Bolin. Blackmon was the one drawing the comparisons to #81.

The fact of the matter is that Michael Floyd over the course of his first contract is going to make the almost same amount as Anquan Boldin will in the next year of his. There were legitimate durability concerns with Breaston, and Boldin wanted to be paid like a Top 10 NFL wideout, which he is not.

This wasn't a "need" pick. Anyone who's trying to overstate a need at #2 WR is going to end up frustrated. The OL prospects after Kalil were just not that good.

Felt the same way. Not sure what offers we were getting but an additional pick and DeCastro as our first pick wouldn't have made me sad.

Or what we needed to address. #2 WR wasn't a need, but a huge upgrade, that is also a huge difference maker unlike the OL. Some will disagree, but that's how I see it.

We can still get good talent on the OL. Nothing near as good as Floyd at WR for the price we're going to get as well.

Veteran cuts also remain and Kareem McKenzie is still sitting out there as far as I know.

As far as DeCastro and Hightower are concerned, DeCastro fell because of his position and Hightower pretty much went exactly where everyone said he would. The Pats did have to trade to get him. Good move on their part.

I wanted DeCastro, but I am fine with this pick.

Roberts can move into the slot and Early as the #4 is solid.

WRONG. I have given plenty of reasons why WR2 is a need, but I no longer have to bang my head against the wall with people who refuse to see reality. THE TEAM'S OWN STATEMENT listed WR2 as a need. Thanks for playing.

That was actually my other concern with the pick aside from the alcohol stuff. I want to see the Cards be able to run the ball better and pass less and taking a WR at 13 doesn't bode well. I guess the idea is spread the field and then you can run against pass defenses and I certainly hope that's the plan.

With our OL and QB situation I'm not sure we want to plan to throw the ball even more.

Both the WR's are very good RAC now. You have to pick your poison, you can't USUALLY double them both. Someone else will be left uncovered. Read and react ala #13. GitRdone #4!
