No complaining when the report comes out that the Cards short list for the new HC comes down to a battle of Todd Haley, Mike Sherman, Jim Caldwell, Mack Brown, and Jim Tressel. Because that's what we'll be looking at for Whiz's replacement. Go Cards.

You are so right. But I do think Horton's name will be on that list too...you know, at least before someone else snatches him away.

Unfortunately: the reality is that without a QB, the Cards job has to be one of the less attractive jobs available-- true for OC candidates as well.

If the Cards follow up a Whis firing with a stupid hire it doesn't mean it was wrong to want Whis gone.

It absolutely does. I may want to get rid of my Mustang II, but if all I can replace it with is a Yugo, getting rid of the pony is a mistake.

All significant upgrades. Whisenhunt is far and away the worst HC in the NFL. His condescending leadership, if you can even call it that, has no place in the NFL. You can give Whisenhunt talent but he can't help but run it into the ground with his ego. The day he is let go will be one of my favorite as a Cardinals fan. If it is now, I will consider 2012 a success because finally this team can move on from the ridiculous soap opera that it has been subjected to week to week. I would welcome all of the candidates you mentioned with open arms.

You have your choice of all but 31 other cars in the world, if you get stuck with a beater it's your own fault and can rightly be criticized.

Depends if you think your car is the 32nd best in the world, then. If an upgrade exists, take it. If not, don't trade down just for the sake of change.

Getting away from the metaphor. If you don't think there is anyone anywhere in the football world that is available that is better than Whis, then by all means keep him. I think most people who want Whis gone don't feel that way, so if the Cards limit themselves to coaches worse than Whis then they leave themselves open to criticism.

All Whisenhunt supporters have this inside scoop to help show that there are no coaches on earth better than Ken. Problem with this one is that all of the above listed are upgrades. Denny Green would be an upgrade even if he promised to meltdown after a nationally televised choke job again. Whisenhunt is the worst HC in the history of this franchise. Put this guy in Sun Devil Stadium in the NFC East and we would have gone 0-16. The team the last 3 years are his guys and have his fingerprints. He needs to be let go.

Then name some names. I feel pretty confident in my evaluation of Whis. He's maybe a Top 10 coach in the NFL right now. Easily Top 15. He has the respect of the rest of the league, unless you think that should he get fired he'd have to settle for a position coach job like Dave McGinnis did.

Those better coaches need to want us back, and with our situation, I am not so sure they will. With the money we owe Whiz, if we fire him, you can bet that we will be going after guys with little/no HC experience because they will take a lesser contract in exchange for the opportunity. Do any of those second-tier names sound better than him? I don't know. They are certainly a bigger gamble.

Top 10....interesting to know the criteria. How he is top 10 in the NFC would be baffling. He is last in the division by a wide margin.

I agree with you K9, I think he's a good coach, but not a good fit for AZ right now. I have no problem giving him one more year to turn it around if he cedes ALL power over the roster and coaching staff and to let the GM pick an OC and for that OC to call his plays.

Whisenhunt also has to cut the crap with the head games and punitive measures he takes against his players. It's petty and only leads to discontent. If he agrees all that (which i doubt) then by all means give him another shot. Otherwise the Cards should move heaven and earth to go after Andy Reid.

The Vikings are in the playoffs with Christian Ponder at QB. The QB excuse is wearing a bit thin.

I'm no Whiz fan either but you can't say he is worse than Bob Hollway, Buddy Ryan, Dave McGinnis, or Bud Wilkenson.

:biglaugh:

Top 10 coach? Wow. Wow! He's ruinously stubborn, has destroyed the offensive roster, embodies cronyism, lets his ego put players in the doghouse rather than playing to win, and the list goes on. If those are the characteristics of a top NFL coach, he's the best in the league!

First off I'm personally somewhat ambivalent regarding Whisenhunt's status with the Cardinals. If they want to strip his power and force changes on the offensive staff that would be enough for me.

However I do think it's a completely valid opinion to want Whis gone after the showings the past 3 seasons. And having that opinion doesn't exclude someone from being able to criticize a bad hire. It's akin to saying anyone that wanted to have Derek Andersen walk couldn't criticize the Kolb acquisition.

However right now with my limited knowledge of potential coaches I'd probably prefer seeing what David Shaw or Ray Horton could do.

Now we get to see what Michael B (and presumably Keim) are made of...

Do they go after the big dogs and land one, or are we destined for a second-tier candidate because we are the Same Old Cards?
