Probably which likely played a part in Kerr's departure. The message board "insiders" have indicated Sarver won't even pursue a possible S&T with Amare.

IMHO, ths sign and trade option is mostly a pipe dream. Anyone with the stuff worth making a sign and trade had the chance to make the offer in Feb. IIRC, the only trade offers were from teams more interested in his expiring contract. The teams with cap space had no interest in giving up stuff for somebody who would be outrageously expensive anyway.

This is not the JJ situation where the Suns could invoke their rights to match any offer. So it may be thatAmare is more attractive to good teams, but his knee is still more im;portant than not being able to afford him.

The teams in play for Amare are also in position to sign other FA and could maximize their cap by sending some additional salary in a S&T for Amare.

Amare had a serious eye injury last season that helped keep away potential suitors this season. Once the deadline passed, Amare elevated his game considerably and I'm sure he increased his value league-wide. The question is how much did he damage his value with his mediocre post-season play.

Still, we're not likely to get a sign and trade deal unless it's with someone like New Jersey. He might be willing to play for a bad team but I think he'd demand the full max to play anywhere that wasn't already a contender.

We absolutely should be able to get a sign and trade for Amare unless nobody offers him the max.

Otherwise there should be a team that goes into a bidding war and offers him more than the normal max which would only be possible in a sign and trade so they would have to work something out with us.

Of course we are unlikely to get much since we have little leverage, less than in the Joe Johnson case when JJ was a restricted FA and we could have matched.

The only sign and trade type deals that "work" are ones heavy with draft picks and expiring contracts. Expecting to get quality players from most teams is pretty pointless.

Chicago is a classic example. The only marginally useful players on their roster are Deng $11,4, Henrick $9, Rose $5.5, and Noah $3.3. It's not clear they would be a contender even with Amare and this one of the best big cap teams out there.

Miami presents similar issues. Under contract they have Beasley ($4.9), Jones ($4.6), Cook ($2.1) and Chalmers ($0.8) I guess a double sign and trade might do something, but they don't need to.

There are lot of teams with trading pieces, but without the cap room their leverage is poor.

Miami, NY and New Jersey would each need to shed additional salary to make runs at 3 maxes. Miami has already tried to unload Beasley for an unguaranteed contract.

Beasley is the kind of player that could be involved in a sign and trade with Miami.

It wouldn't be fair value but I'd take Beasley and an unprotected 1st for Amare. Beasley succeeding is a long shot but coupled with a draft pick it's not a bad deal.

There's no way in the world the Suns get a pick, let alone an unprotected one.

I think it would be in Miami's interest to do a sign and trade for equal salary because they should then still have enough money for another top level free agent. However, I can't imagine a scenario in which the Suns would want to take back that much salary.

^ the Heat dont have 17 Million dollars worth of salary to give back to the Suns though... an DWade aint an option.

As most said, Heat have no INCENTIVE to add anything but a "well wish card" to the Suns..... they can outright sign Stoudemire to a 5 year MAX.

Its upto Stoudemire to agree to a sign and trade to get his 6th year and potential 25+ Million dollars..... Suns can then play mind games and pretend many teams are interested... but stoudemire is dumb enough to fck it up by talking about how much he likes Miami...

The Houston deal would be great but goodluck convincing stoudemire to go there over Miami..... if anything Stoudemire fcked Phoenix where the sun dont shine by being the way he is....

They don't need to give back equal salary since they are under the cap. If they give some salary back though they can open up space for another big time FA.

^ Which is fine if they send Beasley... and whomever they have.

But they only hve a few players under contract...apart from Beasley they dont have anyone really for trade anyways....

Haslem is a keeper, Wright too... Beasley and a future sounds good.. but Miami has absolutely no incentive to send a future unless Stoudemire likes another team apart from Miami... which can give them competition.

Suns would also get a large TPE. Sonics flipped the TPE they got from the Lewis S&T into 3 1st round picks.

Saying the teams have no incentive to work out a S&T is wrong because all the rumored teams wanting Amare want to hit a home run with 3 big time FA and the only way that happens is if they get creative. However apparently Saver has no interest in exploring these options.

JJ's playoff performance in Atlanta and comments on his character really have nothing to do with the fact that his moment of greatest value was PASSED on. So he's (allegedly) a malcontent and wants too much money. We know what Atlanta was willing to pay for him a year later. We know that he's a top tier free agent this offseason. The bottom line is that the opportunity was there to secure an asset for less money than what it would become on the open market, and it was passed on--in an attempt to play hardball that is out of context with the NBA.

Now we have Amare, conveniently an alleged malcontent who wants too much money, possibly about to walk as well. I don't want them to give him the max. I was extremely hesitant if not against extending him a year ago. But if he walks as a free agent with no return, what point has been proven, exactly?

No point has been proved. This is perhaps the worst time in NBA history to gamble on a high priced salary. The cost of doing so could be catastrophic for a financially restrained organization like the Suns. Injuries notwithstanding, two years ago or two years from now we could probably pay him the max but not right now. We're forced to choose between being screwed and being royally screwed.

Good idea. Maybe the Suns could use their cap space if Amare walks to take a serviceable vet off of somebodies hands for cap relief. Maybe a PF who can rebound and play defense and makes about 8 mil a year AND two unprotected firsts for cap relief.

Nah, no team would be stupid or desperate enough to do something like that.

One thing that bothers be is that Sarver may re-sign Amare (match the best offer), but without any sense of how this fits an overall plan. Sign him or not sign him, Sarver is going to remain on the hot seat for quite a while.

I like Bickley, and i came to the conclusion that Sarver is prepping for a sale about a day ago.

To me it makes sense after a GM quitting that makes no sense.

we're not going to be that lucky. Donald Sterling has gotten killed for decades for being a bad owner and never budges. Bidwill got the same crap. Never budged.

I see Sarver being here for a while unfortunately... unless attendance just bottoms out. Depending on what happens this summer, that's a possibility, but they've already sold more season tickets for next year than they did this year, so we probably won't see the effects in the stadium until the season after next.

regardless, I hate having him as an owner.

Well JJ would have signed with the Suns the season prior to his becoming a RFA for approximately 55M. The difference between the two parties was about 5M. Sarver did not endear himself to JJ when he told him to go out and prove himself as a RFA when he had already proved his value.

Even worse, you're 5 mil too high. We offered 45 he wanted 50.

Yeah, Sarver getting the Suns to the WCF was a real bummer. Hopefully we can get Colangelo back to get us some...uhh nevermind.
