I think the Suns are interested in playing Chriss and Bender limited minutes at Center, also. Mostly to see what they can do. So I am not worried about the center position if we pick up one other guy besides Chandler, whether it is someone new, Len, or Williams. Three Centers is a luxury, imho. It depends on the Summer League for the two second rounders. The Suns need shooting, and those two better light up the Summer League if they don't want to be burning their lungs in Flagstaff!

Do you know what Len's qualifying offer is? I would guess it's around 6.5 million, he was the #5 overall pick so it should be higher than the MLE. I think worst case scenario with him is if he signs that and plays out next season then leaves. I doubt he'll end up turning things on but I'd rather he walk for nothing this year than stick around for another year with no trade value whatsoever.

Also regarding Barbosa and Dudley. I'm wondering if the Suns choose to keep Barbosa.

The Suns have a decision to make with Leandro Barbosa. The veteran guard has a $4 million contract for next season, but only $500,000 of it is guaranteed. If Barbosa is on the roster July 3, he will get the remaining $3.5 million. Barbosa, 34, last season averaged 6.3 points off the bench.

Veteran forward Jared Dudley last Friday underwent a left-toe ligament and bone procedure, the team announced. Dr. David Porter performed the surgery at Methodist Sports Medicine in Indianapolis. Dudley is expected to miss three to four months.

I dont know why paul millsap is even a conversation. I dont know what people dont understand about the NBA now. If you bring him in, Suns solidified in mediocrity, and by the time the youngsters are ready to really compete, he is too old and just another bad contract on the team that they cant rid themselves of.

You either need to commit to being bad and continue to get high draft picks and keep a few smart willing vets on the team like dudley, barbosa, and chandler, or you move forward 100% all in. Anything in between is doom in the nba.

I am nots sold on Millsap but committing to be bad is over. We now have the young core. We have to develop these players. I would assume that there is something in Millsaps game that McD would want to see translate to the young ones. They need to start winning. They need to get a taste of that. And, frankly, Watson was pretty open about taking the next step in developing young players.

It's not like you're on Amazon with all the choices in the world at your disposal. You have to choose from the players that are available.

Anybody can shoot down an idea. What's the alternative?

This would be stupid and dumb. We're gonna take minutes away from Warren/Jackson/Chriss/Bender to accommodate this.

*******... this would obliterate a lot of my enthusiasm for this year.

DON'T STUNT GROWTH OF YOUNG GUYS FOR OLD GUY WHO MIGHT MAKE YOU A 40 WIN TEAM FOREVER.

I will seriously be furious about this if it happens.

Agree. I can see why we'd be interested in Griffin, but I can't for the life of me figure out why we're interested in Millsap at this point in his career.

Yep...I can understand some ambivalence with Griffin, but anyone paying Millsap is a complete moron. He has never won anything and is already 32!!!

So, I'm thinking the Suns can start free agency at 9 p.m. tonight.

I still remember when the Suns scooped Tom Chambers up in the early minutes of free agency years ago.

Can the Suns do it again?

I'm amazed how nobody would want him. He's a beast....all star 4yrs in a row. Does it make us contenders? Who knows. Can we beat the warriors or rockets? Probably not. But IMO him and what we have gets us in the dance. I'm tired of 7yrs of crap. We made a name as a franchise for always getting in the dance. Do What you need to do to get in every year......period.

I doubt it. The Suns with Colangelo running the team used to be proactive. That def cant be said for this team. The only way a quality FA comes here is being over paid or due to trade.

I agree. A starting lineup of Bledsoe, Booker, Milsap, Jackson, and Chriss with a bench of Bender, Warren, Chandler, and Ulis wouldn't be bad. Young players would still see plenty of time and maybe get use to winning. IMO better than tanking again.

Well, apparently nothing happened last night that I can tell. We shall see. Unfortunately it is hard to recruit top free agents unless a team already has stars on their roster.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but the Knicks have interest in Alan Williams.

Ian Begley‏@IanBegley

Sources: Knicks reached out to Suns' restricted free agent Alan Williams tonight.

Hopefully they are not offering a large contract.

I don't know if Milsap gets us to the playoffs. These were last year's playoff teams:

Warriors
Spurs
Rockets
Clippers
Jazz
Grizzlies
Thunder
Trailblazers

Jazz will probably lose Hayward and may drop off, Grizzlies are getting older but they still have Conley, Clippers are going to succeed or fail based on Blake's health.

Timberwolves should take a step up with Jimmy Butler. New Orleans has two top 20 players on their team. Denver is lurking and I'm sure their fans are expecting their young stud to take a step up this season.

I don't think Milsap stinks but I don't think he is a Max player and I hope the Suns don't offer a Max contract.

Signing Millsap maybe MAYBE moves the Suns into the 38-42 win range next year. Not good enough by a long shot to get into the playoffs in an even more loaded West.

As others have said, it will saddle us with a contract we will need to get rid of in two or three more years... another Knight essentially... and will take minutes from Bender, Chriss, and Jackson in the upcoming year.

Just stay the course with the youngsters. With the moves other teams made yesterday, we are all but guaranteed to be a mid (and probably early) lotto team again next year... meaning more young talent to add to the core next year. In 18-19, the ship will turn the corner, and we will be one of the exciting young teams in the league. ONLY THEN will difference making FAs be interested in coming here... and it will make sense to add one or two at that point.

The Suns need to match any offer within reason to retain Alan. Since he's a hometown boy and his mother is here maybe he'll take less to stay. Id rather over pay a bit more for Alan than having one more minute with Len.
