Were you seriously banking on us getting one of them? Seriously? Since you went personal, I'm not sure you'll answer, but I'll pose the question anyway.

wait a second... there's TWO threads with over a 100 posts on each about Griffin signing here. There were A LOT of people taking him coming here seriously. To say otherwise now is revisionist history.

I hear Millsap may sign for something like 4 years, 140 million. No thanks.

Onward and upward!

I don't buy the Suns are in full rebuild mode other than they will be clearing out some veterans who take minutes from their youth.

As I said earlier, I would have happy with a younger player with upside such as Trey Lyles.

I want the Suns to acquire even more assets and blow this next draft away all the while playing some exciting basketball.

I don't get the "all is not lost" talk. We are a REBUILDING team with a chest full of young, exciting talent. Let them grow up together, learn how to play.

It's so frustrating to think that we might sign someone to put TWO lottery picks from last year on the bench, especially when one of them (Chriss) was already showing solid progress the second half of last year.

I do not either. The Suns already have young pieces in place. Now let's play them.

Millsap would have hindered the development of the younger players on the roster.

Let the other teams blow their cash while we pick up their assets!

Right, and a vast majority of those posts were either against the signing or just not buying it would happen. Including you in some respects.

The point is that we didn't "whiff" on anything. If you think so, then I disagree with you as well. Not a big deal, it is what it is.

Well, yes I thought they were actually pursuing those two. That's what I read. I tried to discuss the possibility objectively but was actually hoping that they wouldn't sign either one.

I'm confused about what I said that was personal?

Since I "know all the answers." All I said is they didn't whiff on anything. Blake apparently requested the meeting with us--we didn't request it from him. And we cancelled Millsap's meeting ourselves. How is that "whiffing" on them? Of course, it could all just be semantics, which makes this argument admittedly stupid. :D

Hopefully when things look grim this season and the McD hate starts flowing we don't get people throwing Griffin and Millsap in with Aldridge and Lebron as players that he's whiffed on. I think Aldridge is the only real miss but it wasn't a whiff, how do you outbid San Antonio when money isn't the issue? Neither Blake or Millsap are whiffs or misses, and Lebron was never going to happen. I hate seeing those all come up as strikes against McD.

Blake counts as semi-whiff since McD had a clear interest in him and apparently thought he worth a massive contract. It was con game for Blake, as it turns out - and which several people here called correctly... not including me.

How do you figure that? The only concrete information out there was a) Blake wanted to meet with us, and b) we COULD offer a big contract. There was nothing out there that definitively had us offering he contract or even had interest in him, other than accepting the meeting HE requested.

Regardless of who asked for the meeting, accepting the meeting shows interest. If they didn't have interest why wouldn't they accept the meeting... on the FIRST day of FA? To be nice? No. They obviously had interest and he obviously was using teams like us and others as leverage. Debating otherwise is pretty tough... mostly because of the meeting scheduled and the fact that it was scheduled on the first day of FA, IMO.

Awesome a year with maybe 30 wins. Can't wait to watch the playoffs with us nowhere in sight again. Maybe by 2020 when all our youth is matured we can be a decent 8th seed.

What exactly are you arguing here? That we "whiffed" on Black Griffin? That we went all in for him and we lost out so it shows how incompetent our front office is? I just don't see it.

Having a guy ask you for a meeting and then that guy cancels the meeting has NOTHING to do with the people that accepted the meeting. That's not a "whiff".

It will be interesting to see what happens. Centers are not in demand right now.

Funny how even the really low end NBA contracts are "set for life" money.

I wonder if we make a run at Kelly Olynyk if Boston lands Hayward. He can shoot out to 3 and adds more toughness. Plus he fits the timeline and would fit well playing with Bender or Chriss.

It's an interesting thought. I wish Olynyk were a better rebounder though.

He is listed as a qualifying offer. I wonder where this stands.

There are just some players you don't even like to look at. Olynyk is one for me.

I suspect expiring contracts will be in vogue again with cash strapped teams.

Good grief. Some NBA owners spend money like drunken sailors, then they have to go into hock to make the next payday.

Cap space is becoming more important than many players. It's a bit of a repeat but it's a slow day.
Waiving Barbosa, a longtime fan favorite on his second tour with the franchise, saves the Suns $3.5 million, pushing Phoenix's space to nearly $12 million. The Suns could expand their salary-cap space to $25 million should they renounce restricted free-agent center Alex Len.
