Does everyone remember how garbage Mark Glowinski was in Seattle to the point they cut him after only 3 years and how as soon as he went to the Colts he was suddenly very good?

Gonna be hilarious if this is the reason we pass on Zion or Kenyon.

You have to remember the physical growth curve of a college lineman to becoming a pro lineman. The best college OL are good enough from day one, but even the best still get significantly better over there first few seasons.

Over two decades ago, even the great Orlando Pace took an NFL season to take off.

I'd love to sign Hernandez because he is a tough guy. The Cardinals OL lacks a bit of toughness.

Well, if you lack footwork, technique, & overall OL intelligence, y’know? Things that require one to be a good offensive lineman, I guess you can hang your hat on an outdated phrase to pump up an OLineman.

If the first & usually main thing you see about an offensive lineman is that they “have a mean streak” or is a “tough guy”, it usually equals that they’re super raw or bad in categories & abilities that actually matter.

Interesting point - check out his NFL comp.

Hmm Dvontel says he lacking in all other areas and thats why people focus on the tough guy aspect.

But Lance Zierlain says he has a rare combination of power, balance and athletic ability with good anchor and footwork.

Who do I believe? Touch call.

If he came here and turned it around, he wouldn't be the first lineman to do that. Hernandez isn't likely to come in with a $12 million per year price tag. You don't build your team on having 50 All Pros on the roster. Guys like Hernandez can still contribute.

Sometimes O lineman aren't good because the other two guys next to them are terrible. As much as the fan base dumps on the Cardinals OL, they were decently effective by a number of metrics. Hernandez would be coming to compete with a number of players.

The only glimmer of hope I have about bringing him in is his success with Kugler. If anyone is going to get him right - it would be him.

Like who? At least in recent memory. Guys like Pugh, Iupati, Beachum, & Veldheer were already established before they got here.

You also don’t build your team on adding more bad players to the roster.
Guys like Hernandez can still contribute.
Sure, just not positively.

Hernandez has been one of those other two guys you’re describing for years now.

With as bad as he has been, it's a longshot that Hernandez will contribute positively for this team, but I wouldn't mind the signing. As long as he is cheap, he would be a worthwhile guy to give a shot to in training camp.

As the only offseason free agent signing to try and strengthen the offensive line, though? Not impressed. Especially when we only have 2 offensive linemen under contract beyond next year.

I think this statement kind of refutes what you were saying. Both Pugh and Beachum were signed as free agents from their former teams(Giant and Jets) that did not feel that they were good enough to re-sign. Although neither are world-beaters, both have played decently for the Cards. Hernandez is in a very similar situation. Hopefully, he can also be a decent starter for us.

Another scrap piece from the island of misfit toys. The article from Yahoo certainly didn't paint a pretty picture. Guys like Hernandez/Gladney are probably what we can expect at this point - lottery tickets and reclamation projects.

No it doesn’t.

Pugh was let go because of constant durability problems. Despite being a fine starter, NYG decided to let him ago because his contract wasn’t worth the durability issues. Beachum was constantly battling injuries with the Jets & decided to upgrade with a potential blue-chip in Becton. That doesn’t mean Becton was bad(he wasn’t), but when there is a potential blue-chip prospect in front of you, you upgrade.
Hernandez is in a very similar situation.
Um, no. Pugh & Beachum weren’t world-beaters like you said, but they were still adequate to decent starters even when they last left. Hernandez has been atrocious & a liability for years now. Not even remotely close to similar.
he can also be a decent starter for us.
Keim probably thinks so, too, which is sad as hell, but predictable.
