The main thing coaches want out of their backup is to not be the cause for the team to lose and Stanton is good at that(only 2 games with multiple INT's and 6 games with 0 Int'S). Look up backup QB winning % and I think you'll be very happy with 6-3.
Keyword in your post: Backup.

Stanton is fine as backup, but shouldn't be relied upon as longterm starter option.

Stanton is currently in line to be the starter after Palmer retires. Will you still be happy with Stanton's stats if that happens?

Obviously, a lot can happen between now & then, but there's nothing wrong with fans wanting someone better than Stanton. Stanton's already shown that he's a below average QB with poor accuracy that locks on to his 1st read. The team may have won some games with him at QB, but I feel like our defense had a lot more to do with it. In the NY Giants game, the go-ahead TD was on a Ted Ginn kickoff return in the 4th qtr.

I've got no idea if Gabbert is better than Stanton, but I have to hope he is.

Stanton's not even under contract for next year. He's not the heir apparent, and besides a little bit of lip service to get him to re-sign last time he was up, I don't think that's anywhere near the plan.

He's an adequate backup and all we can realistically get.
