The human condition
It's scary how gullible people are when they are feeling hurt and vulnerable. If some people would calm down for a moment, they would realize that this fantasy scenario is absolutely absurd -- a classic example of "too good to be true."
1. Remember what happened when the articles about Bryant leaving the Lakers reached a fever pitch? Bryant issues a public statement declaring his interest in remaining a Laker for life. He was never the one leading the discussion about leaving -- it was all rumors coming from people who claimed to have heard him say something. So finally he comes out to calm things down, reiterating his alegiance to the franchise and his willingness to work with O'Neal and Jackson. Why would he do that if he had made up his mind to come to Phoenix?
2. It's very common for star players to make noise about wanting to play together. It's a way of complimenting one another: "Hey, man, you play well, it'd be fun to be on the same team." Duncan and Kidd made noise in that direction; we saw Marion getting chummy with Camby a couple of weeks ago; and so on and so on. It doesn't mean that the players have concocted an elaborate scheme to change teams. In fact, it almost never means that.
3. If the Magic feel forced to part with McGrady, they'll get a better offer than an overpaid complementary player and an unproven swingman with half a good season to show for his three-year career. Expect them to unload a bad contract (Howard or even Hill) and receive at least one prospect with true star potential.
"Gambo" is preying on human weakness in order to get attention and boost his ratings. It's sad and more than a little disturbing.
