Gambo: Suns are targeting Marion. Plus an interesting note about the Amare/GS trade.

Gambo is reporting that the Suns are targeting Shawn Marion. HA.

I'd love it, but is there any chance in hell that Marion comes back to PHX for the MLE?

--------

He's also saying that PHX and GS didn't have a solid deal before the draft. PHX told GS to draft a player that both teams like, just in case they wanted to discuss a deal with Amare. (And GS would include whoever was drafted.)

So, as it turns out, the Suns may be the team that botched the deal before it even started. They didn't insist on, if available, Curry or Hill as part of the Amare deal. That, or they aren't 100% sold on trading Amare just yet.

thus FO are a bunch of idiots. plain and simple. i'm not even giving any reasons for making such statements any longer as i think the proof is in the pudding and the idiocy is self-evident.

The whole "maybe we'll deal with you, maybe we won't" thing is pretty lame. Either propose a trade, or don't.

But I'd be thrilled if the Suns brought Marion back.

My read: Someone in the Suns' front office "leaked" this to Gambo in order to gauge fan reaction. If the fans are positive, they'll show that to Marion as proof that he is missed and will be a hero if he comes back.

This front office is the laughing stock of the league right now. I don't know how much I buy the Suns botched it versus Golden State pulled the rug out from under the Suns. Either way it makes this front office look stupid.

Now they are targeting Marion? Really? I mean yes, he would be OK for the MLE. However, can someone explain to me why unless this team is planning on some huge trades? If this team is blowing it up. Marion makes ZERO sense. If this team was retooling and Marion is going to be your biggest addition....this makes ZERO sense.

This team better have something up it's sleeve (like the Chandler trade) or Marion might end up being our biggest acquisition which would show how truly pathetic this front office would be. If your adding Marion to a team with Chandler & Amare then OK. However, does anybody really see this panning out?

Chandler and Marion would go a long way into making this a decent team. For the right money, Marion is obviously a perfect fit for the system.

Chandler + Marion is not enough unless you traded Amare for a PF with some offensive ability. You can't have Chandler and Marion on the same team without some points coming from your front court. In this scenario, you must have a PF with some offensive talent or this doesn't make sense.

I would take Chandler/Amare/Marion as our front court. Take Amare out or another PF with no offensive skills?? No thanks. Re-team Amare + Marion and a stiff center? Again...No thanks.

Gambo's source is Sarver on almost everything Suns related.

Nash/Richardson/Marion/Amare/Chandler with Barbs/Hill/Lou/Studley/Dragic coming of the bench might just be the third best team in the West depending on how much Trix has left in the tank. Marion helps with our craptastic guard defense, because he can step in and guard any position from 1-4. Richardson isn't an awful defender, he just is prone to mental lapses. He has the physical ability to D up.

That said, I would be surprised if we got both Marion and Chandler. The only way $arver would sign Marion is if he got to pocket the Big Ben buyout. I would much rather have Chandler; we tried the Marion/Nash/Amare combo before and failed, and we'll just fail again this time.

I agree except Marion cannot guard the 1 anymore. Both Miami and the Raptors tried to do that a bit with Marion and he looked horrible. Marion cannot cover Nash's guy anymore. He clearly has lost a step. There are even some 2's in this league he cannot cover any longer IMO.

What I like is that between Chandler and Marion (both good weak side defenders), you have two guys on your team that can help protect the basket on both sides of the paint.

Yeah, both Chandler and Marion at MLE would make this a very expensive team. Granted, it would probably give us, on paper, the best overall lineup we've had this decade, but I doubt Sarver would want to pay that bill.

Sarver just say yes, bring in Marion and Chandler. Don't talk about it. Do it. Nash has to be for this too. They'd help cover his and Amar'e's defense.

Marion come back. Get it done Kerr.

I don't really see any better scenario than getting Marion & Chandler. It allows you to keep Amare (for 1 more year) and get much better defensively (Marion should just guard SF's). At least PHX won't get taken in an Amare deal particularly the GS deal and Steve Nash should be happy. Unless we get a better deal for Amare (which I doubt happens) we should just keep him.

Is Marion old enough for this Dan Majerle style victory lap?

Of course this is all based around Stat staying.

The idea of Chandler/Amare/Marion front court sounds as good as we can get right now.

This is the move the Suns need to make.

Both would fight Amare for stardom on the Suns for implosion.:D
