Arya/Hound
Arya/Jaquen
Arya/Tywin

Whenever that young actress is on the screen, she really holds her own with the adults...and makes for some of the best scenes of the entire series.

Well start. :)

Arya and the hound was riveting in the books too. I love the hound.

Nah...I don't have time to read...and I feel like I'd be turning on my brethren reading the books because I know I'd likely complain about the difference from the books to what's on screen.

I actually enjoy the changes. Even making it a TV series, the books are too dense to get every detail right. There is a certain amount of fun seeing the shortcuts and deviations the TV show makes. And I really enjoy it when they make a change and then wink back to the books. A small example:

In the books, Tyrion loses his entire nose at the Battle of Blackwater.

In the show, he gets a wicked scar and basically tells his sister that rumors of him losing his nose were overblown.

The show runners have been really clever at coming up with practical solutions to issues presented by the adaptation. I've admired their deviations and have nothing to complain about so far.

Totally agree with that comment. The books give you a ton more to absorb, but the show is doing it quite well.

It's far, far, FAR too vast to do it all in a show. GOT is a rich 'verse.

It's set in a fantasy world but it's less about fantasy and more about intrigue, treachery and deviousness.

Not really. There are very few mystical elements to the story so far. It doesn't have the creature count of a Lord of the Rings, for example. It's really a story about men. There are mystical threats to the Kingdom, but the TV show has focused on noble families jockeying for the Throne like 95% of the time without the use of magic.

There are a few dragons that 3 seasons deep have been rarely featured. There are zero wizards.

Its mostly about medieval style politics, deviousness, senseless slaughter and a slight dusting of softcore porn.

Boring finale. Red Wedding should have been the season finale. I knew this episode was going to be a let down after that. It was disappointing but I can't wait for next season.

Because YOU should read them. You should effing read them.

I think most fans of the show would appreciate the books. I haven't read the last one and have no intention of doing so. I read the series as it came out initially and was completely engrossed in the tale but at some point I just tired of all the betrayals. Now, you couldn't pay me to read another of his books but it's a matter of taste. I don't think there's any denying they are well written and are powerful.

Is it a situation where it's so unpredictable that it gets predictable?

That's ridiculous. In fact that might be one of the most absurd things I've ever read. How do you not finish a series that you started?

Nope. 5 books in and I am still getting surprised by some of the sudden twists, as well as some of the new narrative arcs that he has begun. He does a great job of never becoming predictable.

Almost 6 years passed in between book 4 and book 5. By that time, I had forgotten so many details that I would have needed to re-read the series and I couldn't bear to sit through it again. As I said, it was powerful but for me, it was an incredible downer. And truthfully, I was no longer the same person when the 5th book came out in 2011 that I was in 1996 when I first started reading these books. The final kicker was the announcement that George had decided to turn what had originally been planned as a trilogy into a 7 book series. The odds that I'll still be alive when he finishes writing his books are not in my favor. In fact, I have little confidence that he'll still be alive given his current pace. He's in his mid-60's and the last time I saw a photo of him, he didn't look like the picture of health.

Only in a general sense. It really will keep most readers riveted. They may not all be happy they read it after they finish but it's still a page turner.

Yeah, that's crazy. The great bearded glacier needs to write more quickly - he certainly doesn't have 12 years to write these last two books.

Although my wife and I both plan to re-read the first five books when the release date for book 6 is published. I will have no problem re-reading them...looking forward to it actually.

And I would have said the same thing if you'd asked me the day after I finished reading book four. Six years is a long time to wait though and after awhile you either get bitter (which MANY fans did) or you stop caring. Obviously, a lot of fans rediscovered their passion but I know I'm not the only one that didn't return.

I don't begrudge that one bit. Especially with how book 4 and 5 are done, I can't imagine reading book 4 and waiting six years. That would have been murder. Book five closes all the storylines from book 3, so it doesn't have quite the harsh bite to have to wait out The Glacier until he publishes agian. But the wait between book 4 and 5 must have felt like a generation to most people, and I am not surprised that some wrote it off at that point.

If it were me writing these books, I'd put 100 per cent of my time into them; I mean, this has got to be his magnum opus. I know he has an outline for a back up writer to finish them up if he dies an untimely death. Heck, even a timely death seems like good odds at this rate.
