the team is still mentally weak....unless you are suggesting they don't bother to scout opponents prior to a game?? just wait and see what they bring, then plan for them at half time?

they are professionals,..they should be prepared and ready to play from the opening gun... against inferior opponents it should never take halftime adjustments to put together a winning game plan....and it should never take pro players an entire half to get their heads into the game.

we can recover from a bad first half because we are loaded with talent...but if the team were ready to play recovery would not be necessary.

This is a weak argument. They came in with a gameplan, offensively and defensively. The offensive gameplan was pretty good, and just failed to connect on a couple big plays in the first half. Defensively, the plan wasn't as great, and the Browns were able to exploit some weaknesses in our personnel.

2nd half, the offense connected on those same big plays, and the defense made changes to play more aggressively and ut more pressure on the Browns offense.

None of these issues are due to being weak mentally, not having heart, or a lack of character. That notion is silly.

I go into my job with a plan every week, and some weeks it goes like I think it will and other weeks it doesn't. Neither of those speaks to mental strength or weakness. Neither speaks to my character. That is how plans go. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. How you adjust is more important.

Very good post.

Have to ask though, what do you think of Bettcher's tendency to play off coverage and a lot of zone at times? I don't think zone fits our personnel, but that's not even my primary concern, it's that they aren't imaginative zone coverages. It's primarily straight cover 3 or quarters, with everyone lining up in their zones and merely dropping. There's no disguise, no confusing alignments (other than Badger).

The only justification I can think of, is that they want to make teams grind yards and drives all day long. Zones can do that and we have the athletes on D to make tackles. My hope is that this is a waiting pattern type D while Bettcher's figures out how to use his personnel (and lack of pass rush).

Having called defensive plays, it is easier to take less risks rather than put yourself in dangerous situations, especially against opponents who you feel are inferior. Your mindset is that as long as we execute, we should win one on one matchups. This is ever more true when yu have an offense which should put up points.

What I had to learn is how meaningful and important confidence and comfort are for offenses. By being overtly aggressive, I was exposing my defense to more risk, but I was also making the opponents less comfortable and having to make faster decisions. Faster decisions generally leads to more errors.

I believe or hope Bettcher will learn that he needs to make teams uncomfortable early which will lead to earlier mistakes which hopefully our offense can convert on which will tilt the game and game calls in our favor.

Exactly. This is a message board. People express their opinions. That is the purpose of the board. Sometimes they let their emotions get the better of them, because they care, or they wouldn't be here.

I see you have 78 post. If you have time, just go through all of these threads and point out anything someone said that did not come true.

Don't stop until you go through all the posts and you will take over the title for the highest post count.

Hindsight is 20/20.
