here's what worries me most about this game... all the things that I feared would be problems this season... Williams being a disaster... bad STs... still no consistent pass rush... iffy O-line... all looked to be on display tonight... against the Pats JV team.

Good things I'm taking out of the game? When the chips were down, Palmer didn't look rattled and made enough plays to put us in a position to win. Larry is amazing. DJ may just be one of the best players in the game.

But this team has a lot of work to do and today was ugly. Oh, and if this team was "believing their press clippings" a little too much, they've got their heads up their asses after being completely embarassed in the NFC title game.

Most concerning though? this team simply hasn't looked the same since Seattle punched them in the mouth in the last game of last season.

It still would've been good if not for that stupid holding by Watford (extra 10 yards).

I've feared all the sports writers and analysts predicting us SB winners would get to our heads. It really looked like they didn't get up for this game like they should've. I'm just glad this was the first game of the season, plenty of time to make adjustments.

A good snap, and we most likely squeak out a win... I'm more concerned with our DB situation...and the fact that Palmer and his receivers seemed to be on different pages far too often. (sans Fitz of course)

The play-calling in short yardage situations..... is still a major thorn in my side.

Yep, that is the real head scratcher too, since all you hear from the announcers is the fact Palmer's entire offensive weaponry is the same as last season.

It could be because Palmer really didn't play in preseason and when he did he was not playing with whole offense on the field. The defense is much more concerning than an out of sync offense as that's something that will get corrected simply by playing real games. The D giving up what they did to the JV squad is much more concerning IMO.

Yup - and remember our weird "lapses" last year? Random games or quarters where they just didnt show up... ? This loss isn't the end of the world, but it was certainly one we should have won reasonably handily.

Consistency game to game has been a big problem for a while. It's not even expecting lights out play all the time or everything always works, but just visibly playing and executing at different levels. This is on coaching. I know BA takes the attitude that this should be fun and the game is not important to compared to family and enjoying life but I think that might trickle down into their performances and practices. It doesn't matter if you want to be the best accountant in the world or the best team... To be the best you have to eat and sleep whatever that goal is because someone else is. You don't have to sacrifice that much to be good or even great, but to be the best it isn't a 40 hour a week job.

Pats were 2x better prepared. It was plain as day. Do you think that was because they are that much better than us or do think it was because they practiced 2x better than us and their coaches prepared 2x as much?

I'm not saying that anyone is slacking I'm just saying if you want to super bowl champs that team usually sacrifices a lot during the season, raw talent alone doesn't carry it.

Look at our talent on defense, and that's all they did. Who's fault is that?

It wasn't a perfect snap, but it was about 6-10" off the ground. Butler couldn't handle it so he pushed it down to the ground to trap it & that's what threw the timing off on the kick. If Butler handles it cleanly then we win the game. If the snap was a foot higher then we probably win the game too.

Our offense was stalled too often by going for the home run balls instead of picking up 10-15 yards that were right there for the taking. John Brown didn't look right in this game. JJ Nelson's a 1 trick pony that can't be counted on. Michael Floyd still disappears or can't get open. I would've liked to see us use Fells, Jaron Brown & Ellington (as a WR) more. We stopped ourselves with bad play calling & decisions than NE making plays.

It's all on Bettcher... he isn't half the DC that Bowles & Horton were. He doesn't understand in-game changes when things aren't working. His blitz schemes aren't as well disguised or executed. He's not putting guys in the best position to be successful.

i don't think it's all on bettcher. our ST were a disaster tonight as well. but yes, I think Bettcher leaves A LOT to be desired, especially compared to our last two DC's. I know people will point to our ranking last year, but the previous two years, we could somehow depend on the D getting that MASSIVE stop to finish games. Last year, it seemed like the D would let down at the end of games and our O was dominant enough that it would come back to make the winning plays in the big games (@ Seattle where we blew a big lead and the O came back to take the lead back... Cincinnati where we let Cincy go down the field and get a FG to tie before Carson led to them to a game-winning FG... the ridiculous Packers OT where his d gave up 98 yards of Hail Mary's before we won in OT). I can remember one game last year where the D made the big play at the end against a good team where Freeney strip sacked Bridgewater. Otherwise, in tight games, it seems like the D would break and then the O would go back and win the game.
