I like the enthusiasm, but I don't see much to convince me to be more optimistic for the regular season.

Hopefully Whisenhunt has more energy than Green during games and doesn't mail it in 10 games into the season.

I think the starting QB in 1991 was Tom Tupa. Rosenbach had gotten hurt playing inside the dome in a non contact drill and never really came back..Gun shy..The Back ups were are you ready Craig Kupp and the wonderfull Stan Gelbaugh. Stan by the way was starting by game 5. Tupa actually lead the Bugel team to a 2-0 start. Then as the say the rest was history , I think we won only 1 or 2 games the rest of that season.

No wonder Bugel never could make up ground with that starting three some.

I think that signing Gandy for depth at G and T would be a good move. It may also enable the Cardinals to spend just one draft pick on the offensive line (a tackle) and thus have five more picks to address other needs...

I could very well see the Cardinals drafting an OLB and an ILB, especially if they intend to play the 3-4 this year and beyond.

As for the other three picks...a blocking TE, a cover CB and a punt returner would seem right.

Mitch we are marching to the same drummer...for the most part. I am not sold enough that the defensive set is set. I think we are going to be very fluid..in CP's first year he showed many different fronts. I think we are going to see even more than that with a fair amount of blitzing out of a four man front!

I think the Gandy signing is very important as well as you do. This puts a lot less pressure on draft day. As I see it without that we have to draft two OT's aside from bringing in a cattle call of FA's. All the good sgnings we made in FA go down the drain if the OL situation is not solved. We need to be better than we were the last half of last year.

For some reasons linebacker have pretty much fallen out of the sexy category. I believe it is because many orgs have move quick edge guys back there. A lot of value can be found in this years draft at the lb positions in rounds 3 and lower as you will see.

I'm thinking of the right year right? The one where ALL we did was throw because JJ was scared of safetys and noone could brake the line of scrimmage. the year before edge, greens second year.

You are thinking about 2005. I posted already how pitiful the running game was that year. Green hardly tried to run the ball at all. Shipp would get 12 carries and JJ 5. The Cards threw the ball so much Navarre even had 24 attempts.

670 pass attempts and I think somewhere around 360 runs. About half of those by Warner and McCown.

Anquan Fitz and Edge can do nothing without blocking. Everybody knows that.

The Cards had David Boston, Thomas Jones, and Frank Sanders in 2001 and got about 700 fewer yards than the 2005 team that had JJ and Shipp as the primary RBs.

That 2001 team also had Big on the oline.

And all of that extra yardage in 2005 is not because Big was moved to LT. It's because the Cards threw 90% of the time.

You have to have time to throw. Especially tough to pass block when the other team knows you are going to throw it 40 times a game but the Cardinals did it.

Our third guard is Elton Brown and nobody is scared by that because our starting tackle is Oliver Ross. However, depth at both need help. Gandy is the type of "swing" lineman that can A)save a roster spot and B) perform "well-enough" for short periods of time or specific situations. Blocking TE is important and I hope a guy like Spaeth slips because he lacks "elite speed". He the type of guts and grits blocker that would help this team. If OLB wasn't such a gaping hole I'd take him in the second.

That's true. They also had alot of yards to make up after being in 1st and 15, 12 times that year because of Big's false starts. So that added to the yardage totals.

That you are giving Davis at LT the credit for that teams offensive yardage boggles my mind by the way. Is this Denny?

ROSS’ RETURN

In what comes as little surprise given his history with offensive line coach Russ Grimm, Oliver Ross — who had played himself out of favor and onto the bench under the Dennis Green regime — will be the team’s starting left tackle when the Cards hold their first minicamp in mid-April.

“We’re going to start him out there and see if he can handle it,” Whisenhunt said.

gotta love that passing game for still working tho, problem was really that it worked but we couldnt get in the endzone and needed to run in there so we sign another back and play musical lineman. Green was such a bafoon.

At the NFL level predictability will be the death of the team. KW gave us a little hint of what to expect 58 per cent run 42 pass. If we stay in the games, that is an excellent ratio for winning football. The big but is we have to stay in the game (say 2 scores) to do this. Bear in mind most games are won by less than 7 points over the season by most teams.

:bang: Starting Ross at LT ??

Makes me want to :barf:

Did Whiz watch any games of Ross starting at RT last year ? He had some bad moments of getting beat evey which way possible. I might place Ross in the same catagory as Anthony Cement. Which means no technique, very little footwork, and the most glaring weakness is speed.

Actually most of Big's false starts that year came on 2nd and 12 after JJ or Shipp had lost two on first down. I looked it up.

I also give Big credit for the huge improvement in the Cards running game from 2001 to 2002 when Leonard replaced Clements at RT. 1800+ yards rushing at a 4.4 clip with all the WR's injured was amazing.

It is odd though that a team can still move the ball being one dimensional.

However, they don't often win.

Because of that tight point spread I also hope that the rumors of Rackers being the football equivalent of baseball's Todd Zeile are incorrect.

Whisenhunt just lost all credibility with me saying he is going to start Ross at left tackle. The guy must be a complete idiot. God help our upcoming season. Whisenhunt might as well start Stepanovich at LT because he couldn't be any worse. And yes I know Stepanovich isn't with the team anymore. This is one of the dumbest moves that I have seen. If he can't tell that Ross sucks and has no business starting as a tackle then he won't last long as a headcoach.

Why is it a surprise to anyone that Ross is named the starter? You could see that coming from a mile away. It's no smokescreen, he'll be the guy for 2007 unless Thomas falls to us. I think it's safe to say that the Cards will have the worst starting tandem of tackles in the league. Reggie Wells , for some reason, is liked on this board. I think he is a liablility on the OL and can't see why people like him. He's no better than Ross. I would much rather have an OT combo of Davis/Ross than Ross/Wells.

Being a Cardinal BB fan I should be able to get it but I don't. The only record I think Zeile has is he has been on more teams than anyone in any sport including several times with the same team. 'Splain it please.

Heh, ThunderCard, that's a great nickname for Clement... in wondering why i hadn't heard that one before, i searched the site and saw that this isn't the first time it's been used, but you introduced it a couple of years ago and for some reason you're the only one who's used it. On the other hand, when he left the team you did promise not to ever use it again... oh well! :)

You can only name "starters" with what's on your roster. What's he supposed to do? Say, "My starter at LT is going to be whatever tackle we can get at #5." It really doesn't mean anything more than when Blackstock was called a "starter" recently.

Sorry, that reference was a little obscure. Zeile got the reputation of getting his big hits only when his team was either way ahead or way behind. For instance hitting a 2 run HR in the 8th with his team already up 6-2. But supposedly seldom hit well in pressure situations.

Somehow that got by me. I know he was as slow as a turtle. Rackers is far from a problem for us based on the "problem list."

You mean the Anthony Clement who started at RT for the Jets last year, and was just re-signed by them???
