Why does this man believe he needs to change certain things that have been basic parts of the game.

Does he believe he is so much smarter than all the people that have put this wonderful game together over the last century?

I get the idea of safety. Like moving the goal post back so players aren't getting injured is cool.

The 3 things that really irk me?

1. The extra point. It's been a part of football for 100 years. Is it routine? NOT ALL THE TIME! Games have been won and lost because of the missed extra point. Why not just reduce the distance between uprights to 2 yards? Oops, I hope he doesn't read this.

2. Schedule. Sometimes more is not better. The NFL has the greatest playoff format of any sport in the world. Only 12 of the 32 teams get into the playoffs and yet 75% of the teams still have a mathematical chance to get in with 2 games left in the season. Yet there seems to be a driving force to expand the season. This is where players saftey seems to take a back seat in favor of the almighty dollar. And of course let's mention Thursday night games every week. Bet the players just love playing on 3 days rest.

3.Expansion.The divisions are balanced both in numbers, rivalries and for the most part geographically. This crap about adding a team or 2 in Europe really aggitates me. So we'll have 2 five team divisions and 4 four team divisions? Or will they simply move a franchise away from their fans? They already have football over there....it's called soccer here in the states.

Goodell comes across to me as someone who knows what we want and whats best for us. He is the only commisioner that I have actually even given a thought about liking or disliking.

Okay I'm done.

It's time for training camp!

I think overseas expansion is a bad idea just as adding games to the schedule would be. But getting rid of the silly extra point is an idea long past overdue. What about that play says football? I like the idea of just awarding the scoring team 7 points unless they want to gamble and go double or nothing on that extra point with a real football play. If you can get it in the end zone, you get 8 points, fail to score and you get penalized and have to settle for 6 points.

This makes me laugh...because it's not Goodell...it's the Owners. He works for them...is their mouthpiece and sounding board. Any issue you have with Goodell should be taken up with the owners.

Yes. Yes he does. He has an inferiority complex, and is currently changing things for the sake of changing things so it looks like he is doing something, anything.

Nothing arrogant rich people hate more than things that work, and go smoothly. Screw the huge problems and issue that need to be addressed, go change what works, cause if it works, changing it only makes it better.....right ?

Goodell is a clown.

I don't like the idea of teams in Europe. Although this idea was floated around long before Goodell FYI.

I love the idea of getting rid of the extra point....

Live the idea of more games on the schedule and 2 more playoff teams

Kudos to Roger! (Whom does work for the owners)

You think the owners pay him 44 million a year without tell him what to do? Come on now.

They pay him to run the league.

Which he does, poorly in my opinion.

You think 32 owners all agree and have unified beliefs in the way things are run ? Come on now.

Right, and Goodell and his office has no say on it right ?

All rulings on player punishment have nothing to do with it either.

Meh, to each his own. If you really think 32 owners are that organized to have that type of control, then to each his own.

 Sorry to sound so jerky, Rugby.

Goodell received a huge bonus from the owners (30 to 40 mill IIRC) because of the revenue that was generated recently. New CBA etc. and Goodell helped spearhead these revenues so the owners rewarded him.

He does work for the owners but has to make the final call on many decisions.

The NFL has been evolving ever since it was invented so it will and should continue to do so. The NFL does not sit on it's laurels (MLB) and that's part of why it's by far the most popular game in the US.

When a team scores a TD I then change the channel or take a bio break or get something to drink/eat. That's because the extra point is only less boring that a false start.

If Europe wants American football let them finance a league of their own. I'm totally against the flight and the reason which is money.

We have enough playoff weeks. These guys don't need the extra weeks of the season. There are too many injuries as it is.

I do not care who he works for, what is his idea or not. Alll I know is that when crap goes down, with what is becoming a complete free for all with the game's rules, I see this arrogant faced Roger guy stating how he knows best and I cannot stand him. I would like to change his last name to 'Bad'all :)

A team in London is a doomed idea IMO
its all very well going to see a game at Wembley once or twice a year, I go its my only chance to see a live meaningful NFL game.....but the NFL assumes that if they put a franchise in, that we will all just abandon our teams and become fans of whatever team they have planted in London....nope I don't ever see me changing allegiance I've been a Cards fan since 83 and I'll never change, and nore will most of the fans over here they all have their own teams and they follow them passionately.
Besides once a year I can spring for a ticket and all the travelling costs to London ....but 8 times a year...I can't justify the expense. and I really doubt that they could fill a stadium with just the local fan base.
On match day fans come from all over the country and Europe that wont happen for 8 home games.
Still all that said I really hope for the Cards to be an 'away' team one year just so I get to see them one time...

Part of the game.

Games have been won or lost on the extra point.

IMO, if you take out the extra point, just do away with them entirely and make touchdowns seven points. Done.

If the point is that it is boring, and doesn't serve a function in the game then stop with all the bastardized ideas of points after a touchdown, and just make it seven.

I still say keep it as is.

How about they talk about things that vastly effect the game like pass interference, tuck rules, or my personal favorite the Victor Cruz "I give up" so its not a fumble convenient truth rule.

Disagree.

I'll line up for season tickets and never be less of a Cards fan.

London will hardly depend on on Coventry or Europe to fill the seats.

'The City' will buy up the boxes and prime seating on day one.

Just move the extra point back if it is to easy.

More regular season games would be OK as long as they came at the expense of preseason games.

I don't want to see more teams right now no matter where they play.

As I look back since he was given the job, overall I think the NFL has been less enjoyable, it's getting to be less of a sport and more of a business, I get wanting to make money and they have the right to pursue as much as they want we can do that here in the US, that being said I feel if it keeps going this way true fans will start to go elsewhere and be eliminated to cater to the more elite. I hate to even say it but looking back 10-15 yrs to now I used to be so excited for football and got depressed after the SB lol but now I'm at the point that I didn't even realize camp was actually starting this week! Don't get me wrong I still love the Cards and football but I'm really on a wait and see here in the next few years.
By the way making a London road trip to see the Cards play the London TeaTotallers would cost me two months wages lol
