Apparently we didn't need a veteran Pro Bowl cornerback as much as we needed an average quarterback with some upside. So I thought I'd take a look at the WRs we're going to be depending on Patrick Peterson to lock up in one-on-one coverage this year:

Steve Smith
Hakeem Nicks
Mike Wallace
DeSean Jackson
Michael Crabtree (probably twice, since we don't face San Fran until Week 11)
Miles Austin
Sid Rice (Twice!)

I've been told multiple times that our season is not going to depend on the presence or absence of an above-average cornerback, but 9 games are going to be against pretty dynamic receivers.

no big deal, he can cover them without knowing the playbook or coming to training camp - Rod Graves

"I thought we drafted a corner back"--Ken Whisenhunt on replacing DRC

Seriously, some of you grossly overrate Whis as a coach. Just wait and see what Reid and his staff do to DRC.

You mean the OL coach they hired to be their DC.

Could be a lot worse. And Tavaris Jackson/CWhite (twice), Cam Newton, Alex Smith (twice) should be stoppable somewhat.

I dont disagree with you, but to me, the key isnt who is playing CB. The key is how the hell is this team going to generate a pass rush? If Cards cant get a pass rush it doesnt really matter who is playing CB imo. (a little exageration, but point being pass rush is the key)

5 pick should be able to hold his own as well as the 16th pick did a few years back.

Maybe, but it's not like the Eagles, 49ers, Steelers, Seahawks, or Cowboys had dominating offensive lines (or quarterbacks in many cases), and yet those guys managed to be productive. The pass rush is key, but it doesn't appear that Matt Roth or Manny Lawson are going to be walking in that door.

Unfortunately, even with a zone blitz scheme, your corners have to buy you enough time for the pass rush to arrive. Baltimore got picked apart frequently despite their pass rush because they had no one on the corners. If Patrick Peterson isn't able to lock up these guys fairly early in his experience, it might not matter whether or not O'Brien Schofield builds on his 2010 season.

DRC looked worse than he was in 2010 because the pass rush was bad and the offense was horrible.

DRC didn't start until mid-season in 2009. Patrick Peterson will be starting from Jump Street. Neither Nmamdi nor Darelle Revis were the players they are today as rookies.

Bah, They don't need a DC.

The have Jim Washburn coaching a line with Trent Cole and Jason Babin. The opposing QB's won't have a chance to get the ball out of their hands.

The Eagles are going to run away with the NFC this year, just because there DL will be ridiculous.
