Wow... I'm downtown and yea, it's a little overcast but definitely doesn't look like a Haboob kinda day...

I just edited my last post.. It was 7/5/2011.. I thought it was strange too.. But it is kinda brown out there and I'm on the other side of town, so I had no idea..

Haboobs look alot worse then they are.

Most of the time you can see just fine, but sometimes they can get really dark for a few minutes.

Which means when you see one, get off the road, as that's where the danger lies.

Besides that the worst part is just it leaves a thin-medium sized layer of dirt everywhere...and I do mean EVERYWHERE.

It's fun watching them roll in....and then suddenly everything is orange.

Valley Fever

My bad, but as a native it isn't something that is likely to effect me at this point, so it gets overlooked.

Though I wonder how rare it is, a good case study would be how many professional athletes here get it, since most come from somewhere else. Maybe it's happened but I've never known of any athlete here contracting it. But there is probably one or two.

I've really only known of one guy way back in middle school that got it. (over 20 years ago)

I always thought they were called dust storms also. Never heard of a Haboob.

I don't know when they switched it, but I started noticing the local news using the term a few years ago. It's supposed to be some sort of arab or middle eastern name for it.

I looked it up..... Haboob is indeed an arab terrorist,.... in Arabic, it means ....well,....dust storm..........
the page I looked at stated the term "Haboob" is not widely used in north America,...the term Dust Storm, or Sand Storm, is more readily accepted....

I think Gee is just jumping on a band wagon and trying to be trendy...................... this is the type of thing that happens when one forsakes the team they love for nearly an entire off season,...............
