We have officially tanked one season and it brought us JJ. or would you rather give him back?
And now, you've wanted to tank right from the start of this next season. Look what it's done to the morale of the team from the start of this season.

We've had one winning season out of the last eight. A JJ a year while tanking will not turn the tide. To the contrary, the consequences far outweigh the addition of one good Small Forward prospect for a whole year's effort. Or lack of it.

Enough with the losing mentality. Just look at how the opinion has turned on this board. There are only two of you Tank Commanders left.

Uh you’re making stuff up. They weren’t tanking to begin the season, so the attitude had nothing to do with tanking but rather entirely to do with Watson’s coaching and Bledsoe being a bitch.

And there are others who have said they want in on the top 5 players in this draft, others who have stated they will be pro-tank at a certain juncture and record, and still others that will eventually succumb to the allure of a dynamite player once we are bad enough. So whatever way the wind blows is meaningless.

I think that you missed my point that a few of our ASFN posters have continued talking up tanking during the off-season, during pre-season and through our first three games.

Others have posted that talk of tanking should not begin before half of the season is gone, rather than an ongoing thing, now in its second year. With which I agree.

My post was about us, the fans. I am sure that Suns leadership realized after the demoralizing effect of our early blowouts that they needed a new philosophy. They should have realized that shutting down Chandler and Bledsoe so early last season would snowball into results affecting the whole roster. And team management. And fans.

You’re still making a cause-effect argument that is 100% conjecture. It’s apparent it was Watson and Bledsoe that were weighing the team down this year, not last years tank or a few fans talking about tanking in TE offseason. That’s ridiculous.

No need for the "That's ridiculous" or "Making stuff up" to support your point. We disagree on the effects of tanking. And how it affects a whole community.

Okay, sorry for the hyperbole. Yes we disagree on what’s best for the team.

In a van...down by the river.
IMO the Suns should hire completely outside of the organization. No more former Suns players yada yada. That type of decision reeks of just wanting to put butts in the seats, instead of genuinely looking for the best candidate to develop this type of roster.

If, as he stated, Triano does not want the job permanently, I don't think the criteria should be whether the next one is inside or outside the organization.

It should be ... who has the philosophy and skills to continue this new Suns identity that has shown in our first two games, as you mentioned. Which I am so happy to see.

I did not mention Dan's name to put butts in the seats. Any more than I wanted to see Jeff Hornacek get the job WITHOUT ANY HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE. Or Earl Watson WITH NO COACHING EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER.

Unfortunately, as I mentioned in another thread, I don't think the Suns decision makers have the experience or know-how to make a good decision. Maybe choosing Triano shows a change.

I want to accentuate that basketball philosophy is just as important as coaching skills and that Triano's philosophy represents a major change to Suns history. It wasn't that long ago that our three best players were all tweener "Point Guards". Sometimes all in the lineup at the same time. Un-freaking-believable.

However, I wouldn't dismiss Triano as a candidate. He has far more experience than some of the Suns previous head coaches.

I think most Suns fan agree, the Suns should have opened up the hiring process before hiring Watson. Triano should have to compete for the head coaching job as well.

Perhaps Triano can be kept on as an assistant coach if nothing else.

I thought the Players wanted Watson, boy did that train crash. Better not listen to the players again.

I would think the veterans opinions on keeping him carried more weight, or it should have, guys like Booker had no clue at that point what to want in a pro coach. So that leaves Bledsoe, Knight, and Chandler at the time. Watson's firing led to Bledsoe's tweet and it's outrageous for him to try and say otherwise, especially the hair salon excuse.

Candidly, McD admitted this on when on with Gambo the other day. He should have done more of a search. Pretty damning admission. I am glad for a GM that is willing to admit his mistakes.

I think the players were taken in by the schtick. The locker room was horrible under Horny. I wonder if the players thought Watsons continual hand holding and pep talks were a step he was taking to get everyone on the same page and that later he would start the reach coaching.

Only the real coaching never came.

And the Suns are willing to move at least two of them. I can see Chandler being moved at the trade deadline as well.

I think that is reading too much into it. Watson was a flim flam man. He was preaching love and trust to a team that was being torn apart by conflict. It sounded like just what they needed. But when the time came to actually coach, there was nothing there.

I think Chandler is just as happy as everyone else that Watson is gone. Who knows, BK might be too. I doubt Bledsoe cares that much right now. He is just using this percieved moment of weakness to get out of town.

Btw. All the present players seem to be thrilled with Triano. Watson spent precious practice time running basic layup drills according to Gambo (who got it from the players). They say practices now are completely different than under Watson. They are working on offensive spacing, defensive switching and end of game strategies. Sometime coaches treat players like children. These guys are young, but they want to Learn on a higher level than the pablum that Watson was giving.

In reference to Chandler, I like him as a player however he does not fit the Suns timeline to win. The Suns need to find a younger center going forward. I'd be happy to see Bledsoe and Knight gone but Chandler not so much. It's just time to move on and send him to a contender much like Tucker.

In regard to the Suns future head coaching position I found this.

Are the Suns going to interview other head coaching candidates beyond Triano when the time comes?

When McDonough named Triano interim coach he said he’d like for Triano to become the full-time coach going forward. McDonough isn’t quite ready to take the interim off Triano’s nameplate – “I think it’s a little early,” – but what he’s seen so far only furthers his belief that Triano is the right man for the job.

“I think what I said was I value stability and I want stability. With a young team that’s important,” McDonough said. “I just hope we don’t have to recruit him.”

McD should just say Triano's name will be added to the HC search at seasons end. He says its a little too early to take the interim plate off Triano but at the same time he's entertaining the idea of making him the HC. I would hope McD doesnt make the same mistake and that he learned a lesson by not interviewing other HC prospects when he handed Watson the job.
Are the Suns playing better because of Triano or because he's not Watson?
Im thrilled with the turn around the Suns have made since Watsons firing but Im not gullible to think Triano is the answer going forward as perm HC...yet.

I like his philosophy and his demeanor. But I agree that there is no need to rush to a decision for next season.

The other reason is that Triano has to convince himself that, despite not liking the pomp and circumstances that go with being Head Coach, he will want to take the job permanently if all goes well. I hope it does.

McDonough's other remarks are interesting as well.

McDonough is referring to Triano’s constant comments that being a head coach is “no fun” because there are too many ancillary elements of the job that take him away from basketball.

“I hope he’s enjoying it,” McDonough said. “We’re sure enjoying it. I think he’s showing just how talented a coach he is.”

It sounds like Triano may not be interested in another head coaching gig if offered and he would have to be persuaded.

I do hope the Suns will pursue interviewing other head coaches plus the idea of Triano being an assistant under another head coach.

I don’t to hire someone who has to be convinced to do it. They are never truly committed.

In general, that may be a fair evaluation.

In this case,I think we can all rest assured that if Triano accepts the permanent Head Coach position, he will not do it unless he is truly committed.

And this is the case we're talking about.

I wouldn’t rest assured in that. If he was a head coach previously he knows what’s involved. If he said he didn’t have an interest and has to be convinced he’s not yearning to do so from an educated vantage point.
