I am sorry but this may be unpopular but if it were me I would tell these sorry asses to sign the waiver and workout or I would not even work a deal with them period and they can go back into the draft next year and loose a ton of money. I am pissed off! These guys didn't even deserve to be drafted where they were and now they won't work!

Make a stance or chance the waiver!

I have to totally disagree.

The Cards need to do everything to change their perception, and I am sorry but this only furthers the argument that they are a 3rd rate organization. Every team in the league pretty much gives the rookies insurance that is equal to the contract that they would receive.

And obviously they DID deserve to be drafted where they were, since the Cards TOOK them at the 17 and 18 spots.

Thats BS about deserving to be drafted because the Cardinals drafted them...your telling me people don't make mistakes? Because this org has made TONS of them. The Raiders drafted a guy...some DB that at least 12 teams said they didn't expect him to be drafted AT ALL!

The Cardinals need to make a stance and stand their ground or change the waiver tonight. I am just telling you what I would do...this is a bunch of CRAP!

I am lucky I have stuff to do with my kids Saturday. Because if I went to this thing I would probably get thrown out for heckling these two pansies.

if you had the chance to make millions of dollars and set yourself and your family for life - but your work didn't provide insurance even though everyother work place in your industry did - would you risk that? I sure as hell wouldn't. I hope this is not true - why can't we just change our way of thinking - be progressive - the old way of thinkin has hampered this team for a long time yet no adjustments seem to be getting made. Very frustrated - they keep giving me ammo!

I think there was one other team in the NFL that had a very nonspecific waiver like we had last year and they had one guy also sit out of minicamp last year. I can't remember who it was, but I'm sure someone on this board will.

When this issue came up with Bryant last year, and everyone was paying attention, there were at least 3-5 major knee injuries during minicamps last year. So, I really can't blame the players for protecting themselves. If the Cardinals want them there so badly, then they can guarantee the slot figure or, here's a concept, get them signed to their actual contract!

I think it was a NYG draft pick. It was a late rounder...like a 5th if I remember correctly.

He ended up joining camp after Fassell basically told him that he would be cut. I am probably way off in this but I am pretty sure he ended up practicing

Did'nt Magehee(sp) get some sort of insurance for the NC game? I'm sure somebody can loan these guys some money so they can get some insurance on there own. I know these guys have worked very hard to get this point in their careers so they do have some responsibility in protecting their own assets.

I do think it is time for the Cards to start giving some of the perks some of the other teams are giving. After all the taxpayer is building them a stadium.

There are at least two things false in this statement

The wrong end of a Tequila bottle.
It's the same argument as last year. Bryant said 'no thanks', and he was right. If these guys say the same thing, I'll be in their camp too. It was well discussed last season, 2 teams don't give a slotted waiver to their first rounders, the Cards and Bengals. The Giants do, not to the later guys, but to the tops, they do so the holdout example isn't in the same context.

I would never expect a guy, that has worked his ass off for as many years as these guys have, to come to a 'voluntary' workout that could result in a career ending injury without a contract in place. No way, no how.

Buying an insurance policy is like putting a bandaid on a broken leg, it doesn't hurt, but it doesn't do the job either. The Cards are dead wrong on this and players and agents know it. Time to step up and do the right thing.

Trends in the work place come and go. Not too long ago people worked without saftey equipment and now they can't work without it. If the trend in the league is to grant or supply waivers then the Cards will have to knuckle under eventually. As much as I want them to be a cohesive team I would risk my career w/o the waiver unless I had a contract. It kills me to say it because I want those guys in camp to see if they are the players the organization believes them to be.

The stadium is being built with a tax, so I would say that 'taxpayers' isn't completely false, and all the other teams except the Cards and Bengals give a slotted waiver. That was determined last year at this time when Bryant said he wasn't working out with out one.

You know what? This is a bullsh*t thread. Because until you see them either out on the practice field or standing on the sidelines with a playbook, you don't know.

It's a waiver that they sign before they get their contracts, says that if they get injured during any mini camp they still negotiate at their slotted number. Or actually guarantees them money if they get a season or career ending injury.

I think. Don't quote me, someone else on the board will get the exact wording from some obscure book in the library of Congress.

Wiz and Endzone's radio reports contradict each other. Or, maybe the players mean they will "participate" like Bryant did at the first camp last year. He stood around and watched during drills.

If the waiver the Cards offered guaranteed the slot, then this wouldn't be an issue ds. It is a guarantee for compensation, but the amount is negotiable. Would you count on anyone being a "nice guy" when millions are on the line? It's a roll of the dice if they are like Davis and practice. That's what I'd do, but I can understand why Bryant didn't and these guys might not.

Nobody should be shocked by this...nor IMO be mad about it. We all say we would practice without assurances but if push came to shove and we were sitting there waiting for a multi-million dollar contract...that could disappear with a single moment of bad luck...I think most of us would do the smart thing for ourselves and our families.

Having said that, as long as they are there going through the classroom stuff and digging into the playbook, I am OK with it. That is the scenario the Cards have built for themselves and they have little right to be pissed when they are behind the rest of the league.

Same thing different year.

Maybe these guys will be good in 2004, after a full training camp and not missing 4 games.
