I will tell you this CBUS, the Cardinal coaches would pick St. Pierre over Leinart (if there was a key game and Warner was out)...I am not kidding you. Leinart does not fit the AZ system and was not drafted by Whiz. St. Pierre is HIGHLY regarded by these coaches. I promise you that. The highlight of the Super Bowl week practices was the pass he made to Lance Long.
I don't agree with that at all. Why would Leinart be #2, #1 heading into camp, if that was the case? I also disagree that, while he wasn't drafted by Whiz, he fits the system well. Neither he or Warner are strong-armed QB's and both rely on touch and accuarcy. Warner has the quicker release and reads defenses better but Leinart will read defenses well the more PT he gets.

I do like the idea of Butler,as i have stated in an earlier thread, but i could easily LeBeau retiring and them promoting Butler to DC. The problem with replacing CP now is that it looks like all the top DC candidates have been hired.I heard that there has been 20 DC's replaced this year. It's hard to figure that CP wouldn't have been one of them.

Not according to LeBeau. He said he has no intention of retiring and they would have to drag him out of there.

On the one hand, I would like to see Butler brought in but I really don't like the growing perception of Steelers SW so I'm kind of torn. A new DC is needed but maybe someone else is available as well?

that doesn't surprise at all. How can that guy be 71? Hell, he looks younger than Whiz. He must be on that good Pittsburgh pharmaceutical program that they have had around since the mid 70's.

I wouldn't go quite that far but he's as impressive as hell.

1. The one major solace I take from the tough Super Bowl loss: Warner is much more apt to return and with him and only him over the next two years is our BEST chance to get back there...imagine the symmetry: Warner wins his fitst Super Bowl, loses his 2nd and 3rd and wins his 4th...and then retires into a comfy niche at Canton. I re-sign him to a two year $18M contract with $9M up front.

2. I trade Leinart...for a first rounder, which in this thin QB market this year is quite feasible, especially for those teams that need a QB desperately. I say Leinart to the Jets. It's a nice fit. It really is. Leinart becomes "Broadway Matt" and the Cardinals get a first rounder in the teens, in which we take Larry English, LB/DE, Northern Illinois. We sign Brian St. Pierre as the #2. I was wrong about hoping for others, but I am not wrong about St. Pierre...I am a BC grad and I've know this kid since he was winning HS Super Bowls in MA.

3. Terrell Suggs is next. Gotta have him. A 4 year deal at $29M, with $8M up front.

4. I f-tag Dansby. He needs to stay motivated to keep his value high. And I get a DC who will move him around to wreak havoc. That's next.

5. I go right to the Steelers' staff and hire their LBers coach Keith Butler as DC. Butler knows Dick LeBeau's system and brings it to Arizona.

6. I re-sign RB J.J. Arrington, G Elton Brown, LB Monte Beisel, LB Clark Haggans and CB Ralph Brown.

7. I re-sign Antonio Smith to a 3 year $14.5M contract with $4M up front.

8. At #31 I draft LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh and I get him John Lott a.s.a.p. We cashed in with Fitz and the Pitt connection resumes!

9. At #63 I draft S Patrick Chung, Oregon or S Derek Pegues, Mississippi St.

10. At #95 I draft C Antoine Campbell, Alabama or DT/DE Mitch King, Iowa.

11. In the 4th round I take LB Maurice Crum, Notre Dame and in the 5th round I take CB DeAndre Wright of New Mexico...who becomes our #4 CB.

12. In the 6th round, I take QB John Parker Wilson, Alabama. In the 7th round, I take RB Tyrell Fenroy, UL-Lafaytte.

And get this...when games are on the line, I play DRC and Larry Fitzgerald as Cover 2 FSs...with Hood, Brown, Wright and Rolle as underneath cover men...with Fitz playing over the top of the other team's best WR...hey if defensive players can help out on offense, Fitz was a LB in high school, and imagine what he could do with the ball in the air. Like I said, it would just be late in the game with games on the line.

My breakout players in 2009: T/G Brandon Keith, WR Lance Long, LB Ali Highsmith, TE Ben Patrick, QB Brian St. Pierre and G Elton Brown.

:pWell that settles it then. I'll see you all on draft day!

1. I re-sign him (Warner) to a two year $18M contract with $9M up front.

Can't argue there. I think Warner, IF he comes back, is obviously what we need to make another run.

2. I trade Leinart...for a first rounder, which in this thin QB market this year is quite feasible, especially for those teams that need a QB desperately. We sign Brian St. Pierre as the #2.

I think that would be a HUGE mistake. That is trading your future away. We have Leinart at a decent salary for one more year, why get rid of him. And then putting your hopes on a 29 year old 3rd string QB is a huge risk for a team that has a core that has Superbowl potential.

3. Terrell Suggs is next. Gotta have him. A 4 year deal at $29M, with $8M up front.

Once again, can't argue with that. OLB with great pass rush ability is just what the Cardinals need. We have NO pass rush from our OLB position and in a 3-4 that is very important.

4. I f-tag Dansby. He needs to stay motivated to keep his value high. And I get a DC who will move him around to wreak havoc. That's next.

Dansby needs to be here long term. Dansby is a leader, a captain, and our "QB" of the defense. Sign him, and sign him long term. I don't think he has a motivational problem anymore.[/QUOTE]

5. I go right to the Steelers' staff and hire their LBers coach Keith Butler as DC. Butler knows Dick LeBeau's system and brings it to Arizona.

I think our defense needs a new system. Go 3-4 all the way or don't the hybrid is no way to run a defense. Butler would be a good fit, IF we stay 3-4.

6. I re-sign RB J.J. Arrington, G Elton Brown, LB Monte Beisel, LB Clark Haggans and CB Ralph Brown.

Guys I think the Cardinals need:
C.Haggans

Guys I would like to have back:
R. Brown
E. Brown

I think Arrington and Beisel are expendable, and can be upgraded. I like both guys but EVERYONE's stock goes up when you have been to a Superbowl.

7. I re-sign Antonio Smith to a 3 year $14.5M contract with $4M up front.

I don't think this will happen. Antonio Smith is one of my favorite players, but he will make some serious money this offseason. The Cardinals have a HUGE list of players that they have do deal with, and Smith not one of the top priorities.

In the 7th round, I take RB Tyrell Fenroy, UL-Lafaytte..

I'll take your word for it. For some reason I am 4 months behind my draft research......I can't imagine why :D

My breakout players in 2009: T/G Brandon Keith, WR Lance Long, LB Ali Highsmith, TE Ben Patrick, QB Brian St. Pierre and G Elton Brown.

Brandon Keith is the only player on this list that I think will make a push for a starting role next year.

I think as situational players: Patrick and Highsmith are going to excel.

If Brown comes back I can see him making a push for the starting line up as well.

The rest are long shots, IMO.

Great stuff Mitch.

This is absolutely silly. I'm not a big Leinart fan (had nothing to do with his play w/ the Cards), but at this point you pretty much have to keep him. I know St. Pierre is a hometown hero for you, but this is just crazy talk.

3. Terrell Suggs is next. Gotta have him. A 4 year deal at $29M, with $8M up front.

As much as I'd love to have Suggs, I really think this won't happen. He's already stated that he would give the Ravens a discount, and I'm pretty sure due to age and ability he will be their top priority of the FA LBs they have.

4. I f-tag Dansby. He needs to stay motivated to keep his value high. And I get a DC who will move him around to wreak havoc. That's next.

I don't want him on the books for 10.2 mil this year. Sign him to a long term deal please.

5. I go right to the Steelers' staff and hire their LBers coach Keith Butler as DC. Butler knows Dick LeBeau's system and brings it to Arizona.

Would love to see it happen, but I'm willing to be no changes made to coaching staff, especially if Haley goes to KC.

6. I re-sign RB J.J. Arrington, G Elton Brown, LB Monte Beisel, LB Clark Haggans and CB Ralph Brown.

With 9 mil for Warner, 10.2 for Dansby and 8ish to Suggs, won't be able to sign many of these guys.

7. I re-sign Antonio Smith to a 3 year $14.5M contract with $4M up front.

See above

8. At #31 I draft LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh and I get him John Lott a.s.a.p. We cashed in with Fitz and the Pitt connection resumes!

Haven't watched the kid play much, but would rather get a pass rusher or CB here. RBs can be gotten later in the draft and by far our biggest weakness this year was pass defense (running the ball would be 2nd in my eyes).

9. At #63 I draft S Patrick Chung, Oregon or S Derek Pegues, Mississippi St.

10. At #95 I draft C Antoine Campbell, Alabama or DT/DE Mitch King, Iowa.

Bring in Ray Lewis to toughen up the defense (in addition to hiring Keith Butler as DC). Anything he did on the field would be gravy, but I'd like to have him for his leadership and the killer attitude he instills in his teammates.

These aren't the same old Cardinals. We have moved into the higher echelon of teams. Premium free agents will want to come here and play. We have a great city, warm weather, nice new stadium, brilliant coach, and now a commitment to winning, evidenced by overachieving their way to a Super Bowl ahead of anyone's best guess schedule.

We have plenty of cap room to keep this team at the top. Now is the time to go for the knockout punch.

The proven way for success over a period of time is to continue to build from within. IF we bring a player in he'd better have a legitimate UPSIDE left for years. Suggs fits that model.

5 years of quality play and people still think Dansby needs to be motivated to play well?

What I want to know is what happened with Okeafor? The guy was mainly invisible during the season and then played lights out during the playoffs. Looks like Joeshmoe was right about Chike all along.
