I was in Vegas last weekend and bet one of my friends that the Cards sell out at least 5 games next year. He was cynical and said they would be lucky to sell out even one. The terms of the bet are that at least 5 games sell out as judged by meeting the Thursday deadline to be aired on local TV.

With 40K season tickets already sold, and a capacity of 63K without open season ticket sales yet, I think this is a no-brainer.

I easily see 5 sellouts (Broncos, Bears, Chiefs, Seahawks, Cowboys).

Should I go ahead and put the down payment on the Mercedes, or have I drank too much :koolaid:

I thought I read that they only have to sell out 55,000 tickets and the rest were Lofts and or luxury boxes ?

If we play well from the get go..IMO they all sell out. Cowboys, Denver, Chicago, Seahawks are no brainers. With tickets still going strong through April from folks with deposits I can see realistically a 50-55 base plus single game tickets.

Believe it or not, but the Bears have not played in Arizona in over 7 years. There's lot of Chicago sports fans here.

Cowboys will be a sellout and the Broncos always draw a pretty big crowd.

I say Bears, Cowboys, Broncos for sure.

The #1 question for this coming season is whether the large numbers of fans of the opponent will still get seats for Cardinal games. That has been a huge factor in the disappointing results for the redbirds in Arizona.

Having tens of thousands of fans cheering for our opponent in the new stadium will be terrible for us and for the team.

I agree with these. I also think the opener will sell out regardless of the opponent.

If we start off 3-1 or 4-0....then all bets are off. The rest of the games will probably be a sell out.

This town is a fair weather town if ever there was such a town.

Yes. I think you may have a base of 40,000 season ticket holder, then add on another group of people who buy flex packs -- Cards fans or not -- who will pick the Bears, Cowboys, etc.

If you want to reach the 65,000, you'll need the last 5,000-10,000 fans based on the team they are playing. While I can see Chicago selling out, I don't see Detroit.

Of course, it all depends on the time of the year and the record at the time. When the Cards played San Diego in 1998 to make the playoffs, it wasn't because of the opponent that they sold out.

At least two (the playoffs).

That would mean we'd be in the thick of it in Nov/Dec., so maybe three more.

I say the new stadium factor sells all 10 since there are only 10 homes games that matter. I am not counting preseaon with the 10. I will be nice to have football in late January.

I think you win the bet. Some games will proabably be close to a sell out and some local business will buy the remaining tickets to force a sell out. So even the Lions and 49ers have a shot at selling out. Plus, I think one of those two teams will probably be the home opener and get a sellout just because it's the 1st official game.

I agree. Game 1 will have only about 44,000. If we start winning, the stadium will fill up fast.

Those were my picks as well. I know the Seahawks just went to the Superbowl but you're not going to get a lot of transplants from Seattle in Phoenix to bring up that games ticket sales, nor have they had a long history of winning that would generate a fan base outside of Seattle.

Cowboys- Before the Cardinals, they were basically our "home" team (blech). Huge fan base, long history of success.
Bears- Lots of transplants in Phoenix.
Broncos- Rabid fan base, history of success.
Chiefs- Same as Broncos and a fair amount of transplants here.

To have to rely on the fans of the other team to sell out a Cardinals game in a brand new state of the art stadium is disgusting.

Very true...but I don't think anyone is really expecting us to sell out all our games much less soley with Cardinals fans (at least, not yet). It SHOULD be that way though, you're right. Unfortunatley, we've just never had a lot of success in the Valley, so not many people have been willing to line the Bidwill's pockets while they field inept teams (or at least, that's been the general cause of malaise towards the Cards I believe). That said, I still like that Green Kool-aid that makes me think it WILL be that way soon. Hopefully in 2008 we'll fill the stadium with Red every week (even when we don't play the Niners). And if we're lucky, by the end of the season it may be close to 1998, when we squeaked into the playoffs...the city exploded with Cardinals fans when that happened...just win baby. :D

The trouble is that one of the main problems the Cardinals have in winning is the number of fans pulling against them in their own stadium. The players won't come right out and say it but you can see it in the body language of the players whenever the question comes up. You can also read it in the comments of opposing players who talk about having a home game on the road in Arizona.

I don't think there are too many NFL teams that have to worry about hearing the QB in their own stadium like the Cardinals do. Or have to watch an opposing player run over to the sidelines and wave his arms to get 10-15,000 fans on their feet making noise.

Can you imagine 10,000 Cardinal fans at a game in Seattle or San Francisco? Or how about 40,000 Cardinal fans at a game at Minnesota?

The Cards have already sold over 40,000 season tickets. For year one of a new stadium/ballpark/arena people will just show up for the new building.

They probably sell out every game this season.

I hate to say it but thats a "phony number" IMO

It seems that current season ticket holders added a larger number of seats then I ever imagined. Since we had about 25,000 season ticket holders and they had almost 40,000 sold before getting to people with new deposits.

Thats about 15,000 seats that current ticket holders picked up. Odds are those seats are nowhere near there original seats. You have a few of them like D-dogg who did it to bring his family to some games or maybe give to friends. But IMO most of them picked up the extra seats to make money. They are going to turn those seats into a profit by selling them. Especially those 10.00 seats. The novelty will be a big deal this first year and I could see those going for double face value.

So I guess after rambling what Im trying to say is that even though there are 40,000 plus sold its far from a guarantee that those seats will be full of people. Much like the 15.00 seats in SDS. They were sold out too but the section was sparsely populated for pretty much every game.
