Guys and Gals, this is not a thread to start a war. I'm all Cardinals all the time. I need to call it the way I see it. I know it's preseason and all, but I'm going by feel. I know we're missing Fitz and Doucet. I know the line has been shuffled around. But I'm going to say it tonight, August 23rd (post game).

Derek Anderson will be our starting Qb on opening day.

This is not a doom and gloom prediction. Personally I could give a crap who our QB is as long as it's the best guy for us.
Here's why I think DA will be starting.

First and foremost, Anderson gives the impression he IS the starting Qb. He appears to have a certain attitude when he runs on the field. He seems to be having fun and he seems to have confidence. When he came in the offense suddenly had a spark. He throws with authority. He has spunk.

Let's be real. There should be no question what Leinart brings to this dance. He's been here for 5 years for God sakes. However, we still hear the same old lines about watching the tape, learning , correcting the mistakes and getting better each and every time out.
And if all things are equal, let's not forget there are 14 million other reasons why this team will simply decide to go with Anderson.

Leinart is in a lame duck position. He's due a 14m roster bonusin 2011. So what does that mean? That means he would have to play lights out to justify that kind of payday. If he did happen to excel, the Cards will be forced to pay the bonus or renegotiate a new contract. If he plays just so-so, the Cards will cut him and will have wasted this entire year.

Again. this is not intended to be doom and gloom. It's merely calling it as I see it.

Derek Anderson may not be the answer, but with this receiving corp and running game he gives us the best chance to succeed.

August 23rd. I'll say it again. Derek Anderson, starting QB for the 2010 Arizona Cardinals.

IF DA is our starting QB I predict we lose more than we win. Our only chance for a winning season is that Leinart starts and plays well as QB--if Leinart fails we are screwed. Anderson has a lot more body of work than Leinart and has shown he is neither an accurate or consistent QB.

Anderson's best game in 2009 based on completion % was 57 and he threw 3 INTs and no TDs. His worst game last season might be one of the worst ever in history 2 of 17 passing for 17 yards. He finished the season with 3 TDs and 10 INTs

2008 he completed exactly 50.2% of his passes...thats AWFUL.

2007 was his best season, yet he still stayed below 60% in completions (56.5%) not good there either

If thats the case Wiz might as well cut him & keep both Skelton & Hall because this team wins 5 or 6 games with DA.

Leinart isn't going anywhere...yet.

I felt this too, Slan, last week, based on how Whiz played DA.

After tonight, his play and his goofiness turned me off. His footwork is so poor it looks like he's never been taught...and he has no patience to let plays develop. Look what Hall did under similar pressure. He fought it off, shuffled his feet, maintained his vision and made plays.

This may sound crazy...but after what we just saw from Hall, he may be the best choice of all, even right now.

Regardless...the answer will come this week...

(1) If Whiz really wants Leinart, he's going to have to stick with him at least a whole half, maybe more...as long as it takes to get some positive results and a little confidence.

(2) Whiz may go ahead and start Anderson versus the Bears and that would pretty much give the answer away. Or ML plays a quarter again and DA plays 2 quarters, like tonight...that would give it away too.

(3) The Cardinals may make a bold move and trade a 6th rounder or so for Sage Rosenfels or a QB that may be a better answer than ML or DA. They would have 3 weeks to prepare him and, in Rosenfels' case, he torched the Rams in Week 1 for over 220 yards and 3 TDs.

This is crazy. Hall is in no way the best QB option that we have on our roster right now. It is an easy statement for you to make because there is no way we will see any competition between Hall and Leinart. Maybe in 3 years Hall can develop into a solid QB, but to say he is ready now is ludacris. At some point even you have to stop posting this nonsense.

He's still waiting for Preston Parsons to get his HOF bust made

I predict that the Cardinals will start a QB for only 16 of the 17 weeks of the season.

I don't see DA as the answer. I predict we cut DA, trade Leinart to Seattle later this week when Whitehurst breaks his leg in practice and bring Kurt Warner back in as the number 3 QB to work with our new numbers one and two (Skelton then Hall). I mean, if we're going to predict something we might as well predict something that's worth seeing.

We take our lumps this year but it's looking like we'll take our lumps anyway. And yes, I know we always play poorly in preseason.

Our O-line better start playing together or it won't matter whom we start at QB. Our best player I thought on the field tonight was the punter...for the most part.

Until DA learns how to throw a ball accurately and with some touch that won't happen (barring injury).

You don't think this has anything to do with Anderson needing more work in the offense than Leinart? One could argue Leinart getting less practice time means he is more ready to go than Anderson, not that Whiz favors DA.

You guys are nuts for even debating this. Leinart is something like 10 for 13 in preseason with an awful line without hte best reciever in the league on the field. Whiz doesnt show any of his offense in preseason. The offense looked horrible last preaseason with kurt. If he would have completed that one deep ball to williams nobody would be saying anything. Quit dissecting every friggen pass this guy makes...

Wait till the regular season forget DA

Who could of predicted a QB controvery?

:)

Logically I would point out that if you start DA you might as well cut Matt. You can start Matt then bench him for poor regular season play and then bring in DA then even go back to Matt but if you start DA, Matt is toast... :)

Did you ever think that the reason DA is seeing more PT than Leinart is that Leinart has been in the system for 3 year, Anderson for about 3 months? Whiz knows what ML can and can't do. He still is figuring out what DA can and can't do in case Leinart goes down and needs to see how well Anderson grasps the offense.

Matt will be our starting QB, but damn it would be nice to see just a tad of offensive spark. No passing game, no running game, it is enough to make the most diehard question how good are we going to be. But I have a feeling we will be better than what we have showed so far.

I totally agree. What we are seeing now is by no means what we will see come the first game that counts.

Nope. I do predict that I will hate the rest of preseason because of fan panic.

If DA doesn't play much better next week, I'd cut him (yes I know it won't happen) and play Hall and Skelton as our second and third QB's or third and second QB's. DA missing the wide open SB in the endzone sealed the deal for me.

The "perfect" name for you. I too have little to no interest in preseason...as was mentioned last year Warner looked awful in preseason and if one goes back the smoke signals said he is washed up and lets start Matt. Yeah, I too want to see just a bit more and if a "real" play is drawn up let it be successful....KW runs something less than a vanilla package in preaseason if that is possible...the D looked pretty good overall.
