when I said this was an attractive HC job. I thought about titling this thread, “The Sins of Our Fathers.” That’s because when trying to imagine why this job was no drawing contenders, I first wondered if it was the Cards’ previous reputation. I know some thought it might be the lack of a QB. I think this observstion clearly has proven it has merit. I believe Azlen’s thread was the first to post this. If you look at the other openings there’s either a decent incumbent or a developable new guy. If fact some of the best young QBs are where the openings are. This further highlights how valuable a good QB is and how hard it is to pick a good one in the draft.

The Cards have a winning defense. The have a few stars on offense, but the lack of a QB stands out. I think it’s also possible there’s some concern about Keim’s ability or aggressive orientation to fix this issue. Despite Palmer’s fragile state and Stanton’s questionable ability to be a quality QB the Cards have made only long shot attempts to find a QBOTF.

So now the Cards are left trying to hire a head coach missing what appears to be the primary attraction. So assuming the Cards choose to go get a QB, can they still a HC who can build a staff capable of developing a QB and win in the rapidly improving NFC West? The Cards are now arguably the bottom team in the West. Also will Keim get aggressive enough to whatever it takes to draft a quality candidate to be the QBOTF.

In the end, however, I still believe money talks. If the Cards had picked their man and offered an above market contract, I think they’d have now had a HC. Time wasn’t on their side, but they just didn’t get it.

The NFL changes their undies so quick it’s almost asinine to look at a team or org and proclaim it a bad job. There are only 32 in the world and 5 are open.

Miss me with this bull about “not a great job”.

I was wrong as well, Harry. While I have outlined all of the positives and I believe there are several, I think that the league-wide perception of the Cardinals is not very positive. i think some of it has to do with the number of players who have moved on over the past couple of years and how disgruntled many of the are and still are. I think those players tried to buy into the All or Nothing mantra, but would up feeling disillusioned to the point of even feeling like they were conned. With that in mind, I also this that Steve Keim's frugal assessments of the players' market values (as he saw them) is now backfiring on him. In the beginning, he got away with some fantastic cheap "prove it" deals for veterans---but when so many of those veterans were not rewarded with a follow-up contract offer, it made them feel like pawns in BASK's overall scheme.

The Cardinals have been exposed as pretenders...not perennial contenders. Per usual. That is their age-old stigma and it remains their stigma. All or Nothing was an exercise in rhetoric. And it fell right down like a house of cards in a 20 mile per hour breeze.

Come on guys, there is no doubt that this was a playoff team if it didn't lose its most important players in the first few weeks, along with its entire offensive line to injury.
That's a demonstrable fact. With regard to finding the right combination of coaches, it just has to be someone with the chops and willingness to build an offense from scratch. Maybe not bad, if someone wants to do it in their own image their own way.
We need the whole offense revamped. So....... let's get it done. We'll have two new qb's at least to start next season. We'll bring in an FA wide receiver as our big FA get this offseason I'm thinking, and we'll draft a QB and interior lineman.

It is going to take a head coach with tremendous character and integrity (honesty) to turn this around. And it is going need significant changes from the GM and his practices.

How do you explain Jacksonville then? There is a team that was mired in terrible seasons and lacked a good QB. They had zero fan support. They were the bottom of their division on a yearly basis.

Yet they still found a good coach and have turned things around quickly without a Franchise QB.

How?

With a kick butt Defense and a stud RB.

It is possible Keim and Bidwill over estimated the appeal of this job too. Life moves on. Why worry? Cards will find their Tomsula sooner or later.

I don't think that seeing both sides of things is an effort to be right or half right. It makes for great discussions. We all have opinions---is this a competition as to who is right? Don't we all wish that our most nagging concerns about the Cardinals are wrong? Don't we all hope that the positive feelings we have about the Cardinals are right? There is always both, isn't there? In practically everything. O, the paradoxical nature of all things under the sun, including the sun...and the Arizona Cardinals.

Keim put entirely too much emphasis on what BA wanted/didn't want. Rather than be a GM...he was basically just BA's sidekick. So, alas, here we are...Keim is still interviewing guys (Bettcher, Armstrong) that BA wants him to, even though there's definitely better options out there. He needs to step up to the plate and put his stamp on the team...enough is enough.

I do not buy this at all. East coast & midwest guys are going to be drawn to the traditional powerhouses there and those jobs happen to be open this year. The issue might be the QB and the fact that BA tried to get himself a ring and left us with the oldest roster in the league.

Fact is there are only 32 of these jobs and this franchise is one of the top tier with a good owner, GM and stadium not to mention a ton of good pieces on the roster.

Was the roster and QB room any better when BA took the job?

We drink the Cardinal Koolaid, but I don't think the NFL as a whole consider this a top notch organization or place to play. I think the last few coaching searches tell the tale on that.

It's not so much MB&SK are dragging their feet, they are the nerds chasing after the prom queen and only getting an eye roll from her.

A coach will be hired but it will be a leftover. Now, that may turn out, who knows?

My thread about SK needing to move on, got completely trashed....

He's basically left the cupboard empty, and that's entirely on him.

We have a stud RB and a few defensive Pro Bowlers.... After that??
Nada!

LOL!

nothing worse that getting a little confidence and thinking you’re one of the cool kids, only to learn you’re still the same old nerd you always were.

I can understand why candidates would have hesitation taking this job knowing that the biggest factor determining their success rides with the QB position. Somehow we are left with zero potential at this position and the person responsible for this is still in charge.

Steve's got to go if he doesn't nail free agency and the draft. The lack of emphasis he's placed on finding a quarterback is alarming. I guess he's waiting for a team to drop someone in his lap again.

Let's put this into perspective. Has there been more or less news regarding the Cards HC position than say Indy or Detroit or NY? Even Tenn.?

Suddenly because people on this board aren't hearing what they want the instant they want this job is some how a crappy job? Are you shittin' me? There are only 32 of these available on the entire planet and they pay millions of dollars per year on top of all kinds of perks.

And the Cards are the worst of them? Who wouldn't want to come here and basically be able to assemble the offense around their vision?

They've got an owner and GM who want to win. Great weather and top notch facilities.

Many of you vastly under estimate the franchise.

This is not true!! Don't tell me that this year's Rams looked better at the beginning of the year. Goff looked like a bust. The team has stunk forever and the offense was ranked 2nd to last. The NFL is 4 players going here or there and poof you can win a division. Every year a team goes from last to first. If any of the decent QBs come here and we draft decently ...we can win 10 games. In mean come on. Arians coached below par ...we lost our 2 best offensive players and we won 8 games!!!! David Johnson is worth 2 games easily. In fact our defense is elite ...I don't care what anybody says. Minnesota is good this year!! Just like Atlanta offense last year looked like the 1999 Rams. They were 6 inches away from going 9-7 and Detroit woukd have made the playoffs if you remember that.
I dont buy this isn't a good job. Muncheck staying in Pittsburgh is stupid stupid but his choice. And honestly he was not my choice anyway. We need a young offensive minded coach that adjusts and comes up with good game plans. I'm going to throw a name out there. And I'll except the stone throwing but I think if given time can be a heck if a coach.
