All this hand-wringing and yet it is pointless until May 15th. Let's wait until we have a chance at Ayton and draft someone else before we throw insults and leap from rooftops, eh?
I was thinking of posting an Ayton thread but decided it would be best to wait until afte May 15. I am not going to watch that day. I’ll just check the message board that day and rip off my disappointment pain like a bandaid.

LOL Sarver is the one person where you don't have to make stuff up to make him look bad. His resume speaks for itself.

Just off the top of my head there's Majerle, Budenholzer and Fizdale who all told him to go kick rocks. So there's your 3. Don't go around making accusations without doing some research yourself first.
Gambo interviewed Sarver today about the hire. They asked about the process. He said he let everyone else do the interviews and then when they were all done, he talked to Igor himself....

For two hours! That is straight from Sarvers mouth. He interviewed Igor himself at the end of everything for two hours!

Just realized. Igor coached Elfrid in Orlando. The guys has coached half the league at one point or another.

Igor was with the Suns before. We don't know what was discussed in that interview but it wouldn't be surprising if there was a good bit of catching up between them. I'm not sure if you see that as a good thing or bad thing but I don't have much of an issue with it. Didn't bother Igor if he accepted the position after. I doubt he put Igor through a grueling 2 hour interview so it's making a big deal over what very well could mean nothing. I know some will complain and refute that and that's fine, we don't know definitively either way. Igor accepting the offer points to things going well, IMO.

We all want Sarver to back off but that hasn't happened. We could sit around complaining about him all day or do our best to accept him for what he is and move on. If he's going to be involved I'd prefer he's surrounded by good basketball minds and spend a lot of time with players, coaches, and GM's so he learns basketball better. Him learning the ins and outs of the game and league is more of a likelihood than him stepping back completely. I'd rather he made informed decisions than impulsive, and the more he learns the more informed he'll be in the future.

He released a statement through the Jazz yesterday...

"I am thrilled to be the next coach of the Phoenix Suns and greatly appreciate the opportunity that Robert Sarver and Ryan McDonough have given me. I am certainly proud to be the first head coach in the NBA raised outside of North America and just as excited to return to the Suns organization and Phoenix, my family’s second home for the past 10 years. It’s a place where I was a part of tremendously talented and successful teams and I look forward to working towards a championship. My time here in Utah has been invaluable and we are in the middle of an important playoff run with a very special group of players and coaches who deserve my full attention. At the end of the season, I look forward to turning focus to my next challenge, building a strong program in Phoenix and creating the success the fans deserve."

Not that this will change anyone's opinion but James Jones came out and said specifically that Sarver DOES NOT meddle in decisions that are made.

“Robert is invested in the team and like all great owners he’s deeply interested in what happens on a day-to-day basis but at no point is Robert a dictator or does he meddle in decisions,” Jones said. “It’s really a collective group that makes decisions."

It’s the euro thing. People are terrified of drafting darko in a Lebron, wade, Carmelo, bosh draft

I think comparing Darko to Doncic is silly. Very different situations. Darko wasn't even a top player in Euro, he just had massive potential. Bender is closer to Darko.

I don’t disagree with you. Just stating the reasons I think so many are gnashing their teeth about Doncic. I’m not one of them.

If you're not one of them, quit bringing up the Darko comparisons. Everyone has heard that before, it's been 15 years since that happened and there are a slew of differences between Doncic and Darko. They should not be compared. Euro's are viewed quite different nowadays because of how Darko busted. Doncic is a much better prospect than Darko ever was and he's also been a better player in the Euro League. The constant comparisons to Darko need to stop.

Wtf?!? I am NOT one of them. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised when you try to put words into my mouth when I LITERALLY JUST SAID I WASNT ONE OF THEM. And I didn’t compare darko to Doncic, I said other people are afraid of the SCENARIO. A bunch of highly hyped Americans and a single hyped euro. THAT was the comparison I made. NOT the two individual players, their backgrounds, skills or anything else. Just where they cane from. Maybe read backup a few posts to where i said people will be complaining because he’s a euro (not a darko). Maybe a little reading comprehension would help. But naw, that wouldn’t help you attack me, would it? Naw. I don’t know how much more clear about a topic I can be then when I state I am not one. But by all means surf through ALL of our discussions about Doncic. I defy you to find literally ANYTHING that I’ve said other than pretty supportive comments about Doncic. But that wouldn’t support your BS, so you won’t bother.

Majerle, really? Nobody here wanted him anyway!
But that doesn’t change the fact that he turned down an interview. Which makes him one of three, that we know of, that openly stated they didn’t want the job when they were considered. You asked for 3-5. I gave you 3.

And of course it’s all because of Sarver right?

Majerle didn’t even interview, and he probably knew he wasn’t going to get the job anyway. Doesn’t necessarily mean it was all Sarver’s fault, which is the prevailing narrative on this site whenever ANYTHING goes wrong.

I never said that. But I’m inclined to lean that direction given past history. Sarver may not be as meddlesome as he once was but no one really changes their base personality. Particularly not wealthy powerful older white men. This is still the same guy who did the chicken dance at Pop. He’s abrasive. A leopard spots might fade, but they don’t change. So when I’m looking at an outcome and have to guess at the drivers I’m typically going to (a) recognize it’s a guess at best, and (b) err by assuming that evidence I have from the past is more likely to hold up than pure conjecture from the present.

Besides insulting pretty much everyone that accepts a job from him, why is it never anyone else’s fault? At least some people have seen through the vitriol of only blaming Sarver to see that McD and Triano are somewhat to blame for our current predicament.

I said in my very first sentence if you're not one of them quit bringing up Darko to compare him to. What did you do before? Brought up Darko. Sorry if you don't get that but you were the one who mentioned Darko last, saying people were afraid of Doncic being a Darko in a Lebron, Wade, Melo draft. The Darko comparisons need to stop, all around, they're nothing alike. Is that how you float the comparison without taking ownership of it? By saying "others" are doing it despite that not being the case.

It's only you and Cheese who bring Darko up. You have been more open to him as a player than Cheese but that doesn't change that its you two who keep invoking the Darko argument.

Every comparison has a context. I don't think people who are bring up Darko are saying they are they same player. They are just comparing situations as in an over-hyped Euro in a very good draft.

Is Doncic over-hyped? No question. Even if he WAS the best player in this draft, its not by much, but the VAST amount of discussion about any player in this draft is about Doncic. However, I think its mostly fans and media. Coaches and GM's seem much more guarded. Maybe its just that he is the most controversial player in this draft.

Ironically, This board appears to be the sole place where everyone’s opinion of Doncic is relatively negative.

I like Young a lot, and before hiring Igor I wanted him more than anyone besides Ayton. I think he's the best fit for the Suns right now of any potential pick, Ayton included in that, but with Igor on board I think he knows whether Doncic can be a PG in the NBA. That's what worries me about him because if he's not a PG then we're stuck with 6th man because I highly doubt he'll be better than Booker or Jackson in 2-3 years. If Igor says he can be a PG, take him. He has a past with him so I'm fine with him making the call in that scenario.

I don't want to see the Suns get cute and try to trade down though. They should be able to drop to 4 and get Young still but the Suns have been burned too many times in the past for me to feel comfortable with trying to pull something to get the player they want and an additional asset. Getting the guy we want is more important than adding another asset to use later, whatever that might be. I doubt it would be anything we couldn't pass up.

New York did that with Porzingis a few years back and even though Knicks fans boo'd it when announced I don't think any of them would risk doing it over and trying to drop a few picks to get him and add something else, since he was not projected to go that high.

I think the Suns would have to have the players rated nearly the same 1-4 if they traded down. The purpose would be to add another trade asset.

Oh I don’t disagree with that sentence. It takes a team of incompetence to get to the level that the suns reached. And I don’t give McD a pass in the coaching search. But the buck ultimately stops with ownership and Sarver hasn’t done anything to encourage my faith in him yet. I’m open minded to it, but this far evidence points to him being somewhat of a boob as an owner.

Sorry, I wasn't singling you out with my previous post. Upon reading it again, it seems like I was. Sorry about that.

I agree, I don't like Sarver either, but if you think about what we KNOW vs. what is speculation, I think the answers about failed interviews, bad seasons, tanking, etc. are much more complicated.

Suns would have to take a player at two and trade that player to a team that would take young down in the draft. Not sure what asset the Suns could pick up?

This should be so obvious that it shouldn’t need to be stated again... especially since the above has been stated numerous times before.

Maybe but that's not just because of hype. He's also torn to shreds far more than any of the other players in this draft.

I think this also happens a lot because Doncic defenders seem to treat any mention of his weaknesses as an assault and on themselves and start spinning super twisty defenses of his weaknesses... which add fuel to the fire.

Again, when people question if Ayton’s got enough dog in him, if Bagley or Young can defend a chair, their supporters all universally acknowledge those very real concerns. So there’s very little discussion to be had there.

The Doncic people blow off the concerns and then become indignant when they are argued against so the discussion goes on and on and on...
