K9, while I'd love to play Iago sometime (I only got to play the Herald in that--first pro role ;) ), that's not what I was doing. I figured I'd disagree with you, sure, but I wanted a full response, that's all. You were only responding piecemeal to people. And you gave a heck of a response. Did you see him trying to throw 5-yd out patterns? Skied every one of 'em. He has a long way to go. I clearly disagree with you about his off-the-field stuff, but that's all right. It'd be boring if we all always agreed.

After watching the " Cam Goes to the Combine" show on NFL Network all weekend, I am convinced Newton has one helluva career in the NFL as a Tight End.

Haters gonna hate, even when Newton is busting records, they will still hate. They might even dedicate a thread to hate'n on him, I can understand.

I started one about that annoying ESPN lady, but at least I have seen her do her job, and that is where my distaste came from. Her performance, while Cam's performance has been nothing short of awesome. His so called problems never follow him to the field, but hate away my bust thirsty friends.
That ESPN chicken doesn't get near the air time she used to, so this post is a double wammy. :)

Cam Newton is up in the air in my opinion. He does nothing for me. Thankfully he seems to have kept his act together off the field so at least he hasn't sabatoged his career that way. I do hope he elevates his game because he is a really good athlete.

So far he far from a bust. Overcame a slow start last season. Solid nFL QB, in my opinion.

In a way, that's a bust. He has the tools to be one of the greatest ever and "solid" seems to fall well below his ability. BTW, nice bump - maybe it will bring Pariah back.

Come on now. Not anywhere near a bust. If he goes Carson Palmer maybe, but he has already surpassed busts like Leaf or ever Bradford. :)

Not all busts are created equal (see Kate Upton). He's far better than the big name busts such as Leaf but if the best you could say about Newton at the end of his career was that the guy was a "solid QB" do you think Panthers fans will be satisfied? Alex Smith will probably finish his career with that label. Cam has HOF talent, Hall of Average is a bust IMO.

No way man, he's a bust!!! He only broke records in his rookie season, and then had a softmore slump that was better than most of the other QBs seasons. Complete bustola, (interpreted) by folks that said he would be a bust.

Yeah, he is an average NFL QB. Not top 10, but also is not in the bottom 10. Year 3 should be a telling year.

I still think Cam is way way talented. My only question is his leadership skills and his penchant for pouting on the sidelines, in huddles and in locker rooms. Many, many years ago Kevin Johnson went something like 3-15 or something totally ridiculous and after the game they're interviewing him and he was basically like its no big thing I'm a shooter even if I do that next game I'm going to continue to shoot. Next game he goes something like 5-18. That is how you have to be when you're a QB (or a shooter/scorer).

Having said that I don't even think he's done poorly and I would even argue he's shown some leadership qualities and mental toughness. His first year everyone said he was inaccurate, merely an athlete playing QB. He goes out and obliterates the league for a rook QB. Last year everyone had tape on him and tried to take away what he does well. And besides Smith he's got little talent around him. But even so, they game-planned for him all off season and yet toward the 2nd half of the season he made his own adjustments and improved significantly.

That takes something. People with glass quarterbacks should not throw stones.

One might of said Vince Young was a stud his first couple of years at QB...Cam is still not out of the realm of becoming a bust. Takes a few years to really judge it

That is kinda of silly. I don't think thought that out completely.

Scam is a turnover machine & IMO closer to being a bust than a star given where he was drafted versus his production. :D

I said before he was drafted he would be an average player, nothing special & I'm sticking to it.

In his second year, Newton was 14th in DVOA and 16th in QBR. In both categories he was ahead of guys like Joe Flacco, Andrew Luck, and Phillip Rivers.

Newton has nothing but upside. He remains with a head coach who doesn't trust him and can't get out of his own way.

Carolina was 7-9 last year and 2-7 in games decided by a TD or less. That's crazy-bad luck, and if that luck can revert back to the mean, and if New Orleans can't reload on defense, Carolina could be a playoff team next year.

If y'all are selling Cam Newton stock right now, I'll happily buy it off you.
