I'm with ya. He may turn out to be a solid NFL QB, but I don't think he will ever be great. I saw those comments a few days ago & just laughed because the red flags just keep adding up.
I saw him in Dallas at the NFL Experience before the Super Bowl & he already was surrounded by 6 guys who I guess comprise "Camp Newton" & walked with him everywhere he went & that was behind a barricade. Warner, Deion, Green, Faulk, etc didnt have guys in suits babying them like the next King. Alarming IMO

I saw something on NFL Network where they said teams will have to adjust their offense to Newton and not expect him to fit their current offense. I think that is a great point. Whether or not he busts will be decided by where he ends up and how flexible his coaches are.
On a side note...I am really loving all the online videos the NFL Network has right now.

I don't know if he's a bust, but he's definitely going to cause his share of off the field headaches for whatever team takes him. He may never get in trouble with the law or suspended, but he is certainly going to spout off to the press things that he shouldn't on more than one occasion.

I'm not really sure why anyone would let the opinion of Bill Simmons's Buddy Hench (who doesn't know much about football if you've ever heard him talk off the cuff about it) sway them one way or another on Cam Newton.
From people who've actually met and worked with the guy, I've heard that he's the first one in the building and the last one out, that he's relentless in improving and perfecting his game, and that he's always asking questions about how he's going to get better.

I don't think Newton has the emotional make-up to make it in the NFL. This article isn't article isn't the only red flag raised and uber-talented kids wash out of the NFL all the time because they can't handle going from top-dog to headspun rookie (which is what 95% of kids entering the NFL are).

Do you really think that a lot of first-round QBs are "head-spun rookies"? Especially the kind that win national championships, are doing the Top 10 on Letterman, winning the Heisman trophy, and front-page news for four months straight? One of the things that was interesting about A Few Seconds of Panic was that Jay Cutler was a douche straight from jump street, but that didn't keep the coaching staff for falling in love with him.
What are the other red flags? He was adored by his teammates at Auburn, was a great leader on the field and in the film room/weight room. He's been through adversity before and doesn't seem to have a chip on his shoulder about it. He didn't mind answering questions about the scouting process for his return to FBS or for the Florida stuff. This is not a Forcier-style problem player.

Well, I disagree. I think Cam is going to be a huge star in the league once he gets the pace down. This kid has star written all over him! Love to see him in red.

I don't think he's going to ever be a star in the NFL unless he drastically changes his tune on some things.
He has the ability sure, but that's not the entire battle.
I say he falls in the draft to lower than 20.

His attitude has now surpassed cocky and has reached God complex. Does this guy really think he's an instrument of God?
He should have just continued and said that two years ago, he was playing against NJCAA competition that rivals most high schools across the nation.
Ill give him this. Compared to other QB busts in the NFL's history, at least he's telling teams before the draft that his motivation is to make a legacy for himself and not to help his team win championships. These statements, along with his "media only" workout are pure indicators of what this guy is all about. Where can I see Mallet's, Gabbert's or McElroy's individual workout? How about the combine, or their respective pro days...like everyone else. If you're truly a humble individual, you'll out-dual the other QBs this Sunday in Indianapolis.
This doesnt even touch the off-the-field issues. The bribes, stolen computers, being "allegedly" kicked out of Florida , and his father effectively ******* him out. And I venture to guess that even before he takes a field, his contract negotiation is going to be prolonged and laborious, especially if he slips in the draft.

The difference between Cutler and Newton is Cutler is just a prick. Newton is beyond arrogant with problems that just dont seem to go away but rather augment. Matt Leinart's teammates adored him at USC. Didnt help him much at the pro level.
If Newton brings that cocky attitude into a locker room of seasoned veterans, that charisma you think he has now will dissipate very quickly and he will lose respect in the locker room.

I used to work with kevin hench on a show called the sports list foar about forty episodes...he is much more knowledable on baseball but is a pretty funny and nice dude ...

I can't make my mind up on Newton to be honest I know someone who is a big Auburn fan and knows a couple of the reporters and their comments are eerily similar to what people said about OJ Mayo at USC. Basically that he seems like a good kid, yes sir no sir etc, but you can't help but get this feeling everytime you interview him that he's just saying what he thinks you want him to say, he's not really answering your questions.
I just can't believe he didn't do what has been alleged there's just too much smoke, so the question becomes will his questionable character be a issue that holds him back as a player(like it has with Mayo) or will people forget all about it because he's such a great player?

Did he buy a stolen laptop his frosh year? He'll tell you that he did, and he tried to hide it from the cops. Did his dad pimp him around the SEC? Sure. Does that somehow mean that he's not going to be a good quarterback? I don't know.
Opposing fans will hate Newton for all the other B.S., but it's not because his parents took money from agents at USC that Reggie Bush didn't redefine the RB position in the NFL; it's that Reggie Bush wasn't physical enough to stand up to the beating of the NFL. Does anything about Cam Newton speak to him being uncoachable? Does anything about Cam Newton speak to his inability to lead an offense? Heck, no. Cam Newton lead the SEC equivalent of the Minnesota Vikings to a National Championship.
Newton (maybe) transferred out of Florida not because he cheated (maybe), but because Tim Tebow decided to come back for his senior season. Newton was only going to have one year of FBS starting experience no matter what happened (whether he cheated or not).
From a personal point of view, the guy comes from a strong, two-parent household (which was apparently the real concern about Vince Young), and he's had success wherever he's played. If he'd stayed at Florida and won a national championship with them (any doubt about that happening?), would these same questions come up?
Cam Newton is a polarizing figure. I think the upside of him (a faster Josh Freeman, a bigger Michael Vick, a Vince Young with his head on straight, Tim Tebow with settled fundamentals, Ben Roethlisberger without the bathroom) is worth the risk, because if he hits, you have a transcendental quarterback. I don't that Cam Newton will redefine the QB position; I don't think you'll need an offensive mind to design a system around Newton (like you had to with Vick and Bush, maybe). I think that Cam Newton can do everything you ask him to.
But I could be wrong. There isn't the evidence on him to be sure, and that's where the risk lies.

why all the hate on cam? he is living the dream. you only live once so why not take advantage of it. try and make your name as big as possible and get the most out of life. even if he is an arrogant, cocky self-absorbed douche, why should it matter if he can still perform on the field?
lebron does all the same crap newton is doing now and he is the best player in the world. nothing wrong with taking advantage of an opportunity to the fullest. too much hate for cam newton for no reason. dude just wins games and that is a fact.
