Guys i am starting to get pissed about all the Lienart bashers that are coming out of the woodwork
I know the sentiment around the Valley must be crazy about the Cards right now (and the Suns and Dbacks too with all the recent success) but living out in South Florida, i began to realize there is a HUGE East Coast bias and no respect for SC's program. Generally I have been getting alot of garbage about how Lienart doesn't have what it takes.
Now i don't need to list all his attributes (but as an aside let me list one story i read in a Michael Smith article about Leinart and Young after the Rose Bowl that should make all Cardinals fans smile. Many scouts and GM's were approaching Pete Carroll and asking him who he would rather have; Palmer or Lienart? His response was to the effect "Would you rather have God's perfect QB (he ment physically) or would you rather win Championships?". I have been trying like hell to get this quote of the article but its for Insider's only. Might be my favorite thing i have read about the kid though) but the main negative i keep hearing is abouot his arm strength and how he won't be able to make NFL throws.
This ignorance is really starting to piss me off. How many QB's have been drafted in the first round, and were unsuccessful because they couldn't "make all the throws"? I really cant think of any. If you were really that physically unable, you wouldn't get drafted or at least until after the first day. Now lets think of supposed weak armed QB's who have had success:
Tom Brady
Chad Pennington
Joe Montana
Peyton Manning
Now how about "tools guys" who are spectacular faliures:
Cade McNown
Akili Smith
Tim Couch
Kyle Boller
Jim Druckenmiller
JP Losman
and on and on......
Ideally you would combine the two (Rothelesberger, Marino, Palmer) but if i had to choose, I would much rather have my QB have a lesser arm than the other guys and be mentally acute. Hell Leinart spent his senior season STUDYING NFL DEFENSES AND QB'S!!!!!!!!! and every throw i have seen him make was a tight spiral right on the money....Rod Woodson made a comment the other day saying after watching Leinart on film and referring to different throws he made " I would have picked that off and that off...."
Uh no you wouldn't have Rod. You know why? Besides the fact that you are now 60 years old, he wouldn't have made that throw where he did if there was a chance you would be in that area. He would have checked down or thrown it away.
Jaws, Mayock, Mortensen and on and on just make me so mad. I'm really happy that Cutler can make "all the throws"....So while we are winning Super Bowls, Cutler will be a three time winner of the QB challenge. I'm not saying Cutler doesn't have it. but the precedence shows that it is MUCH more likely that he will be a bust than Matt.
I know my football and I have been conviced from his Junior season on that what ever team got Lienart, would be a perrinnial winner. I just never in my wildest dreams thought the Cards had a chance at him. Everyone out here keeps comparing him to Ken Dorsey. If i hear that one more time i am going to knock someone the f--k out! I watched Dorsey, its obvious that frial girl did not have the ability to play in the NFL. Combined that with the fact that his mental capacity is much less than Leinart and you have a bust. The best comparison, and the one that has been made over and over is Brady. Both throw the ball the same, both sit in the pocket the same, and both are tirless workers.
So I am so convinced that Leinart will be a success and i want to start a list of all the doubters so i can send them one huge email laughing at why the get paid for this "analysis" and how i rightfully deserve their check for the year 2008. Add to the list so we can call these jokes out for what they are. Ignorant.
The Anti-Lienart List:
Jaworski
Mayock
Merril Hodge
Mortensen
Rod Woodson
