In the last few drafts, certain players just fell into our laps. For instance, Larry Fitzgerald, JJ Arington (forget how he's played, DG liked him and he was there for us in the 2nd round), Antrel Rolle, and Matt Leinart. This year we'd probably LIKE to have the Wisconsin OT (Thomas). Everyone says he'll go #2, and they are probably right, but maybe not. The two teams picking one-two, the Raiders and Lions are capable, maybe more than capable, of screwing up their picks, so Russell and Thomas might not go 1-2. The only certainty, IMO, in the top five picks is that TB will take Johnson and we'll take Thomas, if they are available. Al Davis won't draft someone at the top unless he has him signed, so you never know about Al. Matt Millen has made a LOT of questionable picks, so again you never know. Browns need OL and Phil Savage is a good GM, but they might want an Ohio guy (Quinn) even if he's falling down the board. And Adrian Peterson is the wild card. Bottom line, it should be a fun draft, with the worst case scenario giving us the choice of three defensive linemen.

I totally agree...Joe Thomas is no lock to go at #2...

One thing looks likely though, the Cardinals at #5 will be able to draft the best o-lineman in Thomas or the best interior defensive lineman in Alan Branch.

If indeed Whiz is committed to building the team inside-out...Thomas or Branch will be a Cardinal on April 28th.

Based on Leinart falling into our laps last year.

I'm predicting that Adrian Peterson will fall into our laps this year.

I still do not see Thomas going #2. I think there is a lot of smoke being spread out there. Look at what happend to us the last time we selected a Guard or Tackle in the #2 slot. This is a slot for a skill position player who might help you immediately. I think I read Thomas will not participate in the combines? If he does not I sure would not draft him at even number 5.

I really don't see any teams rushing to take Peterson before us. Cleveland is the only possibility.

Players that are considered to be top 10 picks typically don't participate at the combine. They have their own personal workouts instead.

Thomas will very likely not be available when we pick. He's considered a safe pick and all of the 4 teams ahead of us need Oline help. We may get lucky but I'm not counting on it.

I agree. Even if Detroit passes him up (and that's a big if) both Cleveland and Tampa have pretty big holes at OT. Sure it's possible, but there's no way we can not address LT prior to the draft and just hope and pray that he falls to us.

1. LT has developed into the 2nd most important position in the NFL after QB. The salary given to LTs confirms that. That means LTs get drafted relatively higher than their talent usually deserves.

2. Of all positions premier OT has the lowest bust percentage. Although not all develops into Pro-Bowlers, almost everyone develops into solid starters. That also increases their draft value.

I believe we are lucky this year. The two positions that we are pretty much set at are QB and WR. I only said "pretty much set" because we could use a speedster as a 3rd or 4th option at reciever. Thank you Mr. Russel, Quinn and Johnson for being here. If Russel and/or Johnson hadn't decided to come out early we would be in a much different boat right now. Hopefully the three of them are gone when we pick so that there are more guys we are interested in available to us. IF Quinn falls on draft day ala Leinart the first four picks could have went as follows:

1. Branch (Sapp's heir)
2. Thomas (they still get what they wanted)
3. Peterson (diddo)
4. Anderson/nelson/the ot from penn state?
5. Adams (we swapped picks w/ Washington)
6. (us) Who knows??

...reguardless, that wouldn't be as nice. i think that Branch, Anderson, Peterson, and Thomas will all be very good at a minimum. I will be thankful to get any of them.

Unless Grimm, Whis, Kiem, and Graves see some LT they like being available in round 2.

Don't get me wrong, dirt, I agree with you. We just don't have any history on this front office to be able to predict what they will do.

My Point Was

that although he (Thomas) should go in the top four, you never know. Especially when Davis and Millen are making two of the four picks. MOST experts are saying that Russell and Johnson are sure to go in the top four so all you need is for two others to go elsewhere. Last year we needed a lot more than two to pass on ML. We might get lucky, once again. And even if Thomas is gone there will a couple of gems waiting for our pick.

Very possible. Cleveland is kind of the key to the first four picks. Millen might surprise everyone and pick AP even though he has Kevin Jones. Unless the Browns pick him, AP could slide to us.

1. Oakland QBOTF Jamarcus Russell
2. Det. OLT Joe Thomas
3. TB WR Calvin Johnson
4. Cleve AP *or* QB Brady Quinn
5. AP *or* best def player on the board (one of the DE's or DT Alan Branch)

I'll go a step further and say that the LIONS will take Brady Quinn.

Raiders -- Russell
Lions -- Quinn
Browns -- Peterson
Bucs -- Johnson

Cards - Thomas.

Although I hope it is Peterson that falls to us.

Red desert, I think you've got the first two wrong. By the time the private workouts and the combine are over, Brady Quinn will go first. Russell will be the one to drop down and he will go to either the Browns or Bucks.

Johnson may not go top ten.

As much as I would love for Brady to be selected as high as possible....I could not wish the Raiders or the Lions on him in a million years....please God, let him land somewhere decent....just like Matt did.

Name the last Martz coached team that took a QB highly. He doesn't do it.

Millen wants a safe pick and he'll get it with Thomas. Even if he gets past the Lions, the Bucs and the Browns would take him without blinking

The Valley so low.
Is there a tape of Big highlights around (not including false starts, please) that we can ship to Detroit? Pancake blocks?

Yea, that it. Detroit gets L.Davis in free agency and that allows them to pickup QBotF. And Thomas falls to the Cards. Now if I could just make that happen, I'd be jacked.

Again even if he gets past Detroit, he will very likely be taken by either Tampa or Cleveland. Both of those teams need Oline help.

Joe Thomas

If I've said it once I've said it 100 times. Joe Thomas will drop like a rock after his work outs. He will never live up to the hype. I've watch every Badgers game he has played in and I think he is Robert Gallery numne 2. Call me crazy but I hope he's gone before we pick.

I'm willing to bet all my money on that. Johnson is rated as the best player on basicly every board. He will not slide past the Bucs. I hope he does, however, because if he's there at #5, then the Vikings, Texans, Dolphins and Falcons will most likely offer their entire draft to move up and get him.

I agree with you on Russell. His hype is based on one bowl game.
