Mitch I love your posts, but you really need to give it a rest. If the Cards pay a 38 year old QB $15million per year then they WOULD be the laughing stock of the NFL. KW is in the wrong here 100%. It's not like he wasn't offered a dair deal.

And everytime people say that "the Cards wouldn't have gone to the Super Bowl without Warner" not only do they trivialize their accomplishments, but they disrespect the players, and coaching staff. This was a special season that was a TEAM effort. It was not one man that got the Cards there, it was a collective effort.

I am distraught, CT. Haven't been able to sleep. All the fun of watching the high powered Cardinal offense put up big numbers this year and throughout the playoffs was a dream come true.

I don't mean to take away anything from the other players, but the way Warner played with such smarts and such precision, I could not imagine it happening anywhere close the same way for Leinart.

But now we'll see if Leinart can handle the job and lead the team. It will be a different looking offense, built more for balance.

And I do still have my Wild Card in the fold, Brian St. Pierre. And I know this will rankle many of you but I honestly believe he is a better fit in Whiz's system because he has better feet, a stronger arm and a quicker release than Leinart (and a better understanding of the system having played in it longer). But, Leinart does have a mystique about him and he is an avid competitor...and he has very high expectations of himself.

So let the work begin...

Mitch, we would be insane to give a 38 year old QB 15 million per season for a 3-year deal. Your humble, god-fearing hero is clearly displaying not just one, but two deadly sins: Pride and Greed. He doesn't care where he plays as long as he gets top dollar, and he's whining about hurt feelings and talking about how he needs to be respected. Yeah, so much for that humble image. He's just as cutthroat and godless as the rest of the league when it comes to money.

Fine and dandy they now have a QB but its a waste of money when your leading reciever is 36 year Bruce who caught a whopping 61 passes last year, and an underwhleming Brandon Jones wont help that. An OL that allowed a horrid 55 sacks to lead the league pass attempts per sack. They allowed their QB to get sacked every 9 pass attempts. Its fine to spend 15 mill on a QB but if h doesnt ahve the tools to be succesfull its a huge waste of money. Kurt will suck in S.F. without a doubt.

For some reason, Joe, I've been thinking in light of how wishy washy Warner has been following the Super Bowl that he was going to struggle this next year anyway. Bad karma for being wishy washy and greedy...something like that.

Question for you: How much money can teams dump into next year's cap on deals they make this year? Could the 49ers dump most of Warner's salary into next year's cap?

If it came down to it, I'd rather let Warner walk with his $15mil/yr and re-sign everyone else plus McFadden than having him at an insane number at the expense of our other stars. Still, I think we need to make every effort to retain Warner if at all possible.

By the way, nobody should be giving KW crap if he gets an extra $5mil/year signing somewhere else. Religion or no religion, the guy has an obligation to his family for generations to come not to mention the countless charities he donates to.

You guess? That's the best thing to come from this whole ordeal. Like others have stated already, in 1999 we locked up Plummer but lost Centers, Lomas Brown and Jamir Miller.

If we did 'whatever it took' to sign Warner i.e. giving him $15 million-a-year, we could wave goodbye to Dockett, Boldin, Wilson etc.

Yeah, I "guess", or actually, hope. We can offer them more money, but that doesn't mean they will take the deal. (IE, Warner and Boldin).

Washington does deals like that all the time. Normally they push the money back 2-3 years....

We were going to give him 10-12...and he's as hot a QB as there is in money games...why not spend the extra 3 to keep him and see if the Cardinals can win one?

Sometimes you do have to overpay a player who can get you there.

And, another two or 3 mil this season isn't going to handcuff us from doing anything.

Many of the comments in this thread would lead one to think that Warner was already signed, sealed and delivered.

Does anyone really think that a private jet and a limo ride is a big deal to an NFL QB? Get real.

Sure it's possible that Warner signs a contract with SF, even possible that he signs before leaving SF today. But it is far from being certain, the way some of you have portrayed.

It's not the end of the world...

After all the Cardinals have already have their QBOF!

No not Leinart, St. Pierre!!! :D

They could and probably will try to but Warner being 38 years old and all I doubt he would except a deal that is backloaded such as that. They guy seriously thought about retirement I would be astonished if any deal he does wasnt front loaded or at minimum the same amount for each season. ?????

You should probably take note of the fact that the Cardinals are unwilling to budge on their contract terms with the guy who just took us to the Super Bowl. That is actually a good sign for anyone reading between the lines.

This is a team that is KNOWN for spending on PR moves and short term answers. The fact that they feel comfortable drawing a line in the sand and saying thanks but no thanks should tell you they like what they have in the pen.

Whether that is Leinart or St Pierre is anybodys guess:)

If they didn't have the leverage there is NO WAY they would have let it go this far. This I know.

Did I miss something? Has Warner announced that he even will play next year? I wouldn't count out his retiring if the 49ers, or the "other team" he's supposedly going to visit, don't come up with the numbers to make it worth his moving his family again. He has stated so many times that they are here and will live here, when I would have guessed they would move back to St. Louis. So I think that another team will have to really be convincing with guaranteed money and have a system he can be successful in. I think Bartelstein has talked him into doing all the standard things to drive your value up. These are all fair negotiating ploys - not necessarily unmitigated greed. I don't hear him doing any outright lying; I'm sure his feelings were hurt. But I think this visit will go a long way to setting his true market value. Give the 49ers credit for showing some class in how they're recruiting him, but my opinion of him as a class individual hasn't changed.

Actually I'm having fun just watching this play out and reading the message board. Hey, I'm a Card fan but the sun will rise tomorrow morning regardless of whatever Warner does.

If true and the 2nd year was an option year, then Robinsons article is dead on the the Bidillws shoot themselves in the foot once again, and all the talk about Warner being greedy, feelings shouldnt be hurt and so on was for naught becuase Warner is absolutely correct in his thoughts. "IF" that contract is true then it is the Cards who are completely in the wrong and I dont fault Warner one bit.

A 38 year old QB shouldn't expect to get more than one year. I wanted the deal to be no more than 8M, but I can deal with 10M if the 2nd year is a team option.

I really like the contract from our FO.
