Chalmers is the perfect PG for MIA now. They are set 1-4, but they need a 5 and some depth (obviously). Chalmers has averaged 2:1 points:assists since he came into the league and he has a low salary and he's not the focal point. For MIA, that's all they need. They need a guy like Chalmers, or a guy like Ridnour or a guy like Blake or a guy like Felton. They just need someone to bring the ball up who has decent passing skills. That's it - and they already have that in Chalmers.
In a 5, they need a guy like Biedrins, Camby, Perkins, Haywood or Chandler. Granted, the guys I listed there are all way too expensive for them, but I'm talking about rebounders and defenders who don't need to score, but can get their points on putbacks or blown coverages down low. That's it. If they get Shaq, that's a dumb move - and I liked Shaq here in PHX.
Bench? Well, they're gonna get a bunch of vet minimum charity from guys who want to ride the wave. They can look at late career guys who have been shafted like Finley from BOS.
They'll fill out, but they really have A LOT of work to do. I don't think MIA will make it out of the ECF. They are putting together a quiltwork team. It's not a team that is grown and developed as a team, they are just thrusting players together. I think a year from now, we'll be talking about what a disappointment MIA was after they got beaten in the ECF....
