Is There An Edge Rusher On A Struggling Team We Could Trade For?

And if so, what would you be willing to give up for him?

You must have been doing the same math in your head that I was...

'Wait a second if they can get Vernon Davis for nothing but basically a couple of garbage picks, what can we get???'

Seriously I don't know why draft picks are valued so high. If we could get a real pass rusher from someone I would be willing to give up 6th and 7th round picks all freaking day and I would go as high as 3rd and 4th rounders. 3rd round picks are hit or miss anyways and we would be trading for a known commodity.

What about Kerrigan or Dumerville?

Tamba Hali is a possibility. Older and a free agent next season.

I don't see Baltimore parting with Dumerville. Kerrigan might be a possibility if the Deadskins are going to go into rebuild mode but he might not come cheap. I just got this off of the rumor wire:

Cardinals GM Steve Keim said there is “nothing imminent” for the Cardinals as the NFL trade deadline approaches this week.

Keim also expressed confidence in the team’s current roster, saying they are “in a pretty good position” atop the NFC West at 6-2:

“It’s always tough to pull off a deal,” Keim explained, via Darren Urban of AzCardinals.com. Teams often want more than other teams are willing to give up. We’re in a position where we feel pretty good about our roster. There is no reason to panic.”

Doesn't look like Keim is interested in making any trades which is shortsighted to say the least. And to imply that the roster is good as it is speaks of pigheadedness. I hope it's a smoke screen.

Not sure I'd call it being pig headed. What's he supposed to say? Our roster is full of holes and we're looking to upgrade some positions starting with our pathetic ILB situation. Maybe the right trade didn't materialize or they couldn't find the right fit. Kiem hasn't been shy in trying to get the right players. Pig headed is over the top, imo.

Keim said there aren't many pass rushers out there that would fit our salary limitations or our character standards.

The pig headed part is saying that the roster is fine. The better thing to say would be something really gray like "I don't want to rule out anything. We're always on the lookout for anyone who can help this team win, but we doubt there is anyone available who could make a direct impact." Or something like that. To imply that the roster is fine the way it is reeks of smugness.

Then say that, not "the roster is fine".

He said that on Doug and Wolf this morning. Also Said he is always looking to improve roster but trades for positions we need are difficult to pull off because other teams place too much value on their own players.

Pernell Mcphee, Dumervil, Hali, Orakpo.

Whitney Mercilus could also be a guy to look at.

Main issue is that any decent pass rusher is making more money than the Cardinals have available under the salary cap.

People don't give up pass rushers, and if they do, they cost a ton. Maybe something materializes, but I have a tough time believeing their are options out there.

Davis was a guy who has worn out his welcome in SF for years now, and has had poor production for years. I can't even think of a pass rusher with similar comps...maybe Trent Cole.

Not really an edge guy -- but maybe Robert Mathis?

Sort of an aside but the Vernon Davis people remember from the Singletary years isn't really still what he's like. he's actually mellowed and become a pretty respected guy on that team. If he's available it's because of cost for what they're getting and that's really because of CK not Davis. If he's healthy I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't look much better in Denver.

I would say he probably got traded because they respect him and wanted to let him play out his career on a better team.

He was a real jerk when he came into the league but he's changed for the better.

By definition, shortsighted would be getting a rental and trading those picks.
Not if you get the right player. This team is built to win now. This is why we have a retread QB, retread RB, retread d-linemen, etc. Not much on this team as it pertains to skill positions that scream future. But what if we can trade a 4th for a Ryan Kerrigan? A player that can be here a while? Wouldn't that be worth it?

Absofreakingloutely! That's what I'm sayin.

I would even do like a 4th and a 7th.

I mean seriously, I want to see what the odds of hitting on either a 4th or a 7th round pick is in the same draft. I bet there is something like a 20% chance either of those guys is still on your team in 3-4 years. Well worth (even if it's just this season) a guy like Kerrigan and if you get him longer then that well then you made out like a bandit.

Granted I have no idea what his cap number is and what it would do to ours, blah blah I know there is more to it than that. But man everytime I see a good player getting traded for nothing. Like Anquan to the 9ers for a 7th round pick or something ridiculous I think maybe we can sucker someone into something like that lol.

I think John Brown, Michael Floyd (I think the kid is good), maybe JJ Nelson and certainly David Johnson and Ellington if used right are skill players which have a future :)

A 4th and 7th? Didn't Washington take him in the first round?
