I have seen Baba go anywhere from the 5th round to the 3rd in most Mocks. He helped himself in the Seinor Bowl move up to a solid 3rd rounder. It is easy to get enamored with guys we see alot during the year. I am enamored with Brad Smith but would not draft him 3rd round. Baba is a poor mans Casey Hampton and I will stay with my origional judgement that he will be a reach if taken by anyone in the 2nd round because of the number of DT available that have more upside than he does. He is a good football player but not a 2nd rounder IMO.

Scott Wright says he'll go higher than expected because he's probably the best pure NT in the draft. He played it most of the last 2 years but the year before that he was essentially in a 4-3 playing DT.

I think any 3-4 team that wants a NT is considering him, will that be 2nd round I have no idea.

I don't know, last week Joe said he hurt himself at the Senior Bowl. Then I read where Harry said that he was outstanding at the Senior Bowl, which is what was reported all week locally, that he was really impressing scouts.

IIRC, he was specifically cited in a blurb on Cal C Marvin Philip saying one of the reasons Philip looked so bad in practice, is he was going against Oshinowo all the time.

I'm not saying he's a lock 2nd rounder, just that there are several DT's who a 3-4 team wouldn't touch(Bunkley for example) because they lack the bulk to play NT. All it takes is one 3-4 team in the 2nd round wanting a NT, to get him picked.

Falling that far would stink. :D

I would rather see the Cards draft one of the big three QB's and we would get the third choie which would probably be Cutler. That makes an alternative draft...but here's the way I'd go with guys that SHOULD be there:

1-Haloti Ngata-6'4"-335-DT-Oregon-unmovable dude who gets tackles even after being double (and sometimes tripled) teamed. He has the athleticism to play anywhere inside on the d-line. Technique may not be the best but that's why you have coaches.

2-Leonard Pope-6'7"-250-TE-Georgia-Sans all the Cardinal Catholic jokes I simply like him as one of the BPA's at an area of need. Blocks OK in the open but needs to bulk up some and improve technique...certainly has the frame to bulk up. Great red zone target.

3-Anthony Smith-6'-195-S-Syracuse-An area of need for sure and someone who is a ball hawk. Has good Senior Bowl week.....doesn't have the best man-to-man skills but should be a decent "centerfielder".

4-David Whitehust-6'5"-220-QB-Clemson-We need a QB and I was torn between this guy and Gradkowski (would prefer Cutler) but 4th round may be too high for Bruce G......Whitehurst has the tools although his biggest rap is INT's.....hopefully caused by in his words "taking too many chances". Sells the run well and has the prototypical size and arm strength.

5-Zach Strief-6'7"-350-OT-Northwestern-Hard working and coachable guy who just engulfs people. Could probably only fit in at RG or RT but we need some help there. Played LT in college and his run blocking has improved.

6-Willie Reid-5'11"-190-KR/WR-Florida State-4.4 speed and has played in some big games. Has vision and can break away. Has played running back and has return experience.

7-Paul McQuistan-6'6"-310-OT-Weber State-Had great senior year and could also play RG. The guy packs a punch...also very coachable.

If we go Cutler then it's:

1-Cutler-QB-Vandy
2-Whitner-S-Ohio State
3-Whitworth-OT-LSU
4-Byrd-TE-USC
5-Jolly-DT-Texas A & M
6-Hoyte-MLB-North Carolina St.
7-Jennings-KR/WR-Frsno St.

Well, change the 1st round pick (unless we trade down) and I'd love it. I don't know some of the later round guys, but round 2 and 3 is tight. Also like Fasano in the 5th.

TE Fasano will be gone before round 5.

I wouldn't mind drafting him in round 4 or even in 3 if we already have a good offensive lineman and/or safety.

By the way....I forgot my UDFA's so here are a few I'd like:

Brett Basanez-QB-Northwestern

Mike Imoh-RB-VaTech

Ryan Hamby-TE-Ohio State

Gabe Fulbright-CB-New Mexico

Cody Douglas-OL-Tennessee

Grayling Love-OL-Arizona St.

TE Fasano will be gone before round 5.

My prediction is based on DG's past drafts where he snagged several players in lower rounds than predicted.

With 2 days left until the draft, its time to bump this thread. Here's my go at it.

Rd 1) There's only 6 players I take at 10. Young, Leinart, Ferguson, Williams, Huff, or Davis. I think we need help at DT but don't like Ngata or Bunkley at 10. I also don't like Cutler here. OLB doesn't seem like a huge need to me, and while Hawk may end up being a great player, I agree with K9 that in a 4-3 system OLB is not necessarily a playmaking position. If two of the 6 players are there (its unlikely one will be, much less 2), I take them in this order: Young, Williams, Ferguson, Leinart, Davis, and Huff. If none of the 6 are there I trade down to the 14 to 17 range, and pickup another 2nd to someone who wants Cutler, Ngata, or Bunkley. In that range I would target Justice, JWilliams, Ngata or Bunkley.

Rd 2) Dependant on what we do in rd 1 obviously. The players I like in the 2nd are: Simpson (FS), Watson (DT), Pope(TE), Scott (OT), Spencer (OG), and Griffin (CB/S).

Rd 3) Players to target here Whitworth (OT), Trueblood (OT), Watkins (FS), Oshinowo (DT)

Rd 4) Jacobs (QB), Williams (DT), Williams (MLB), Maxey (CB/S)

Rd 5) Mcneal (QB/WR), Thomas (TE), McQuistan (OT), Boothe (OG), Robinson (MLB)

Rd 6) Smith (QB/Ath), Stenavich (OG), Riggs, Jr. (RB), Green (WR/Ath)

Rd 7) Slay (SS), Onyenegeche (CB), Fifita (DT), Vaughn (OLB)

So, my ideal drafts would look like these.

1) Young (QB)
2) Watson (DT)
3) Whitworth (OT)
4) Maxey (CB/S)
5) McQuistan (OT)
6) Riggs, Jr (RB)
7) Slay (SS)

or,

1) Justice (OT)
2a) Watson (DT)
2b) Simpson (FS)
3) Whitworth (OT)
4) Jacobs (QB)
5) Thomas (TE)
6) Riggs, Jr (RB)
7) Vaughn (OLB)

Allright....I'll play.

1--Cutler
2--Trueblood
3--Byrd
4--Marcus Hudson (or an Anwar Phillips....upside Secondary guy)
5--Schlegel
6--Skyler Green
7--Lentz

UFA-- Fifita, Jamar Williams

Joe, can I have any credit for having the positions correct so far??

No way in the world could you have told me, last night, that Leinart and Pope would have both been there when they were. Much prefer Leinart to Cutler, and Pope to Byrd.

I wasn't overly pleased with the Lutui pick. However....of just about every RT/OG left....he by far has the most upside. It's all up to Loney.

I'll stick with my picks for tomorrow.
We start the day with a FS or NB.
Schlegel is gone......I would like Freddie Roach...or another athletic LB to play ST.
KR/PR.
Oline help.

Didn't we also get an extra pick for losing Davis?? If so I'll say that is a DT.

The compensatory picks are decided upon the year after that class of FA because right now FA isn't over; the Jets will get a comp. pick for Law and if comp. picks were given in the same year as the class of FA it would be very unfair to teams like that.

No, because you don't.

Trublood is a T, Lutui is a G.

You suck so bad at this football stuff it's not even funny. I don't care what your young neighbor friend says.

This mocking sucks. This should be the best day of my life....but something is wrong.

As I was sitting at the bar.....flipping out because Leinart had fallen to us....there was this 14 year old, big mouth, kid....shouting how Leinart sucks, and is overated.

I finally asked him who he wanted. And he proudly gleamed we needed to take Bunkley. I laughed...then said that we could address DT later, if the need so be. I pointed out that a QB like Leinart only falls every couple of years....and we usually pass on him.

He proceeded to tell me that Leinart was a noodle arm that threw too many INTs and has knee problems. I ignored the last two, since they were baseless. So, I asked him how Montana's arm worked out for him. He informed me that I was living in the past....Montana would suck in today's NFL...and if you don't have a scrambling QB you won't amount to anything.

This kid was too young to be that bitter and ignorant.....when I was his age I was the biggest KoolAid swiggin' MFer on the block....what is wrong with today's youth??
