My take. I like new and young. What's not to like. Every body griped about our last two coaching hires because we waited too long (for whatever reason) to hire a coach. Now we have jumped the gun, I guess, because we went out and hired who we wanted right off the bat. We are not getting the left overs this time.

I like that we are bringing someone in who's new and creative for our offense. What's not to like after the offensive year we just had.

I'm drinking the :koolaid: and loving it .
Can't wait to see who he brings in as his assistants.

Go :newcards:

One of the narratives that I think is naive, is that the Cardinals brought in Kingsbury and hired him after one interview.

I think it's obvious that they probably had contact with KK a few weeks ago. He was likely their #1 guy from the get, and they masqued the search by asking for permission to talk with others.

I hope you're correct Krang, although the idea that the Cardinals are flying by the seat of their pants is getting some support by the mainstream media.

this AM on 98.7: Wolf confirmed that Keim had talked to Kingsbury post Texas Tech and prior to USC.

Wolf said something to the effect that Mike B and Steve had questions on Wilks after Week 2. WEEK 2!!

Things are beginning to come out:

Wilks was fining guys for the wrong shoes on the team plane -- feeling was he was a martinet on the rules.

There was a sense in the locker room that Wilks wore the team out work-wise during the week and they weren't 100% on Sunday.

Clear sense in the locker room that both coordinators were in wayyyyyyyyyyyy over their heads.

It seems to me, that the media is flying by the seat of their pants to create a narrative that we hired him because he's Sean McVay's twin and this was the most important and only reason he got hired.

So much of it is based on ignorance it's hilarious. People saying we should of given Wilks a 2nd year for Rosen to grow in his system.

What? What offensive system did we have besides run up the gut? Yeah a 2nd year of that was what Rosen really needed.

They didn't watch us, they don't know why we fired Wilks, and now they're grasping at straws as to why we got rid of him?

Or we hired Kingsbury because of his 'complexion connection'. The media is being completely cringeworthy. They make their money on contrived controversy.

Even blowing out of proportion some low level employee putting out a bad article on the teams website saying Kingsbury was a 'friend' of McVay.

At least the people on this board who hate the hire are actually bringing up some valid points. The best the media have is 35-40 at TT and couldn't win with Mahomes. Some are also oblivious to any of the other QB's besides Mahomes that he coached up.

It's funny one even said, they don't think he'll be a leader of men. He is, unlike Wilks, and doesn't just talk the talk, but has the knowledgebase and flexibility to back it up. Not to mention will relate to players extremely well on all levels.

Most of the big media just doesn't know what they are talking about. At least Cris Carter, who is skeptical, says that all the highly knowledgeable people about football he knows and respects, respect what Kingsbury has done and can see why we got him. So he is open. Said, Kingsbury needs to get on the phone and call Fitz to make his life easier this year.

I was saying the same thing on here a week or 2 ago...Cards had talked to KK between jobs...and KK took USC as his plan B all along. Cards couldn't tell him 100% that they were going to fire Wilks, so KK had to cover his bets...

Here's another article from a local (OKC) beat writer who's known KK forever. Kind of interesting perspective, most of it damming, but it holds out hope that he can be successful.

https://newsok.com/article/5619809/kingsbury-was-not-successful-at-tech-but-now-gets-an-nfl-gig

He doesn't even say WHY KK isn't a good option. Just that 'he's the best we could get?'

Calls the Bidwill's buffoons for the better part of the century (as if Michael has been a buffoon since he took over and deserves to be thrown in with decades old mistakes/being cheap, when his time has actually been quite good for the Cardinals). He states that we had been successful from 2013-2017, doesn't mention the Superbowl run before that, and yet can't make the connection and lumps Michael in with Bill.

People really think of the Cardinals like it's the 1980's.

5. If Keim was really about making sure he finished his contract in the job and got another -- its Jim Caldwell, who probably gets the team to 9-7 in two years and competes for a playoff spot...… but that's the high end. So -- while I am a guy who called for Keim to go, I respect betting his future on a coach. If it works, then the Cards are at a different level with a coach with a long run time. If it doesn't, then he is gone and likely never a GM in the NFL again.

This is a really interesting take. I’m glad you raised it because it actually provides some evidence that this is a long-term gambit. This, in turn, helps quell some of my concerns about what drives Keim’s actions as a perceived (by me) lame duck GM. KK obviously isn’t a “get better quick” hire by Keim. So if it’s really Keim’s hire (and not mike’s imposition as has been presented re wilks’ hire), this tells me Keim is willing to make moves aimed at the long term. And that’s a good thing . . . if they pay off.

Thanks karma for setting this out.

I don't know much about the guy, but if I have to hear on KTAR one more time about how attractive he is and how women love him, I'm gonna hurl. Give it a rest, already. Sheesh!

Man... of all the whacky people on this board (of which I am one), I don't think I misconnect with any of them as much as I do with you. That might be a compliment to you by the way! ;)
I post from work... which means I don't often have enough time to devote to reading between the lines. You used the phrase "played in the league..." I read it quickly and reacted.
Anyway... Kingsbury has since picked up ringing endorsements from Mahomes and Tom Brady, who played with Kingsbury "in the league" and remains extremely impressed with him. I seriously don't see how Taylor ranks above Kingsbury... at all.
Look I’m cautiously excited about KK, but you really can’t see how one could favor a guy who has actually coached in nfl over one who hasn’t, has been under the tutelage of an nfl coach that has not only had success but has shown the ability to turn a team around over a coach who hasn’t coached under such a guy, and a guy whose resume includes coaching on some winning teams verses a guy whose record is sub .500? I mean, I know I’m not getting into every facet we could (and hopefully the cards did) examine, but you “seriously don’t see how Taylor ranks above Kingsbury . . . at all?!?” Your comment seems a bit farfetched.

Yep. He'll be the first WR off the board; it's just a matter of where. I'd really prefer they trade down to get him. Problem is with no clear #1 or a solid QB class, the Cards are going to have to depend on post-combine player hype to trade down most likely.

I'm looking at you Jacksonville!
Unless he blows away the combine, I guarantee he won’t be.

I hope the media keeps crapping all over us. Its exactly what this team has always thrived on. Being the underdog, rallying together and surprising people

No troll here. Been reading this board since i was a teenager. Finally was able to create an account last year due to email requirements before. Just so happens we drafted one of the guys im really high on (Rosen, Mayfield) after having the guy i really wanted the year before stolen right from under our nose (Watson). Just a die hard AZ sports fan that was and still is really high on Rosen.

As far as playing in the B12 and KK under achieving, sure, but his offense didn't. Its fine to be skeptical. Im not saying he is a sure thing. But his offense is very similar to Mcvays or Rileys. Spread out the defence vertically and get the ball out quick. Things that will benefit this offense and Rosen.

Im done with mediocrity. Thats what you get with a guy like Caldwell. No thanks. Taylor? He is Mcvays clipboard holder. He is not an innovative mind himself but an understudy of Mcvay. There is a reason Mcvay wanted KK for this playoff run. He knows he has the goods.

We have to think realistically here. Were the Cardinals. Were aren't going to attract the big names. Its just the facts. Only way we get one of those guys is before they get big. Thats why i like the hire. If im wrong then we fire Kiem and start over. Id rather swing big and miss than go 6-10, 7-9, 8-8 for the next three years. At least if we fail this way we will be set up for the rebuild with decent draft status and a clean sheet.

The good thing is most were ok with the Wilks hiring. Most hate this one so it will probably be great.
I think you’re greatly underselling Taylor to make KK feel like a better hire. No need to do that. Taylor was highly coveted by a number of coaches with different systems before he became “mcvay s clipboard holder” And he likely deserves more respect than that. Let KK stand in his own merits instead of inaccurately denigrating another imo.

Cmon Russ you know hoops and football are two waaaaay different creatures. A single great basketball player can lift a program. Not the same with football.

Sure but what Beard did at Tech was take 3 star recruits and coach them up. I agree that football the roster is much bigger so the talent difference is harder to overcome but it is
odd a player like Mahomes had a losing record in college.

It's also not like they were Jay Cutler in the SEC, they were in a mid level conference.

I don't know if he's good or not but I do think Leach proved it's quite possible to win pretty big at Texas Tech in football.

and as UCLA fan it's nice to think that Kliff was taking the USC job all the while knowing he might wind up bolting on them and taking the Cards job. Anything to screw over USC!

Agreed its an exaggeration on my part perhaps. But also saying Taylor is much better choice only because he has coached in the NFL is not a fact. (Not saying that what you said so no need for the "words matter" reply )

In that case, Wilks would have been a better hire over Chip Kelly when he came out because he was under a coach who had some success in the NFL . . Who would you take? Wilks right? Well who was more successful?

KK actually being a HC is being vastly underated on this board. I know its NFL vs NCAA but being a HC and a QB coach are two different worlds.

The Cards were speaking to Kingsbury about the potential OC job. Then they realized after he took the USC OC job, that the only way they could get him was if they hired him as a HC.

We have our Offensive minded coach that will bring a wide open offense to the Cards. Also I think he will do a great job with Rosen and that's the main thing. All we need now is a really good DC.
