Here's the announcement. You guys are going to be disappointed.

The good news is I can give you all a coupon for a free nachos at the home games. Perks, baby. It's all about the perks.
What more could we have possibly hoped for?

Its your "assessment" and perception thats skewed.

Exactly, I was reading his assessment and was thinking WHOA! Way off base.

As you said, if a draft nets 2 starters and 3 depth guys it's a smashing success. We drafted 1 starter/phenom (DRC), 2 D-line depth (Campbell and Iwebema), a 2nd RB who led the team in rushing tds, a WR who barely saw the field behind 2 Pro Bowlers and 1 good receiver, and O-line depth who MADE THE SQUAD. That's a VERY GOOD draft. Any team in the league would be happy with that.

And to judge a o lineman 2-3 years from when their drafted is ridiculous. O line takes so much technique, that it generally takes lineman years to be good.

In his opening news conference, Mitch promised to turnover at least half the roster every two weeks throughout the year. "I know what I like in a football player and what sort of player it takes to build a winner. That's why I'll be the most active personnel guy in the league in trades and cuts," promised Mitch.

.... and the other half will change positions.

Sorry about that. I just thought that you were a little petty with SWD. He is correct as far as why we drafted Brown. Leinart was to be our QB of the future and we needed an upgrade at Tackle. We weren't sure about Gandy at that point.

Which just proves my point more. Reaching in the top ten is about a bad a move as you can make. No other spot will punish you so severely for it. You think Levi deserves to be the highest paid RT in football?
We definitely need help at OLB/DE but I have hope for Campbell. His numbers were comparable to A Smith and he wasn't a starter. I'm not as high on Iwebema but we'll see. A full year and off season for these two may work wonders.
You insult me and my intelligence, only to prove with your next post that you really dont know much about the team to begin with. Neither Campbell nor Smith are DE/OLBs. And Campbell's stats were not comparable at all with Smiths. Antonio had almost twice as many takes, twice as many forced fumbles and 3.5 sacks to Campbell's 0.

I LOVE Calais' motor and raw skill and think he will turn out to be very, very good. As it turns out, his #'s compare favorably with Merling who was drafted in the second. The other DE drafted in the 2nd was Jason Jones, who did significantly better. In the end, Campbell gets a A for average.

per Jurecki monday afternoon:

Cards tommorrow are bringing in a former GM in the NFL and a solid talent evaluator to be Graves "right hand man"

Jurecki cant disclose the name, but it should come out tomorrow. Says it will be an excellent hire and Cards fans should be happy.

In the business world when your company brings in a top man to assist you it is time to start worrying. He just might be your replacement. Graves could easily be given some new title at some point and the new guy in town may take over. I do not think they would fire Graves as he is apparently liked by the people at the top but they sure could give him a big title without big responsibilities.

Not trying to be rude, but you are wrong IMO. It generally takes most linemen years to develop, but not top 5 linemen. They are expected to produce immediately.

Top 5 Linemen picked in the last 10-15 years (off the top of my head)

Odgen
Pace
Chris Samuels
BIG
Mike Williams
Gallery
D'brickashaw Ferguson
Levi
Joe Thomas
Jake Long

Odgen, Pace, Samuels, Ferguson, Thomas and Jake Long were all above average their first year and dominent in their second. Williams, Gallery and Big were all busts. I am pretty sure Walter Jones wasn't a top 5 guy, but I could be wrong. Either way, he has owned us his entire career.

Sorry, but there is no good excuse for Levi to have given up the most sacks in the league this year. Again, I think he will get it together and be very good, but when you look at him on this list you have to admit he has played much more like the bust list than the good one.

If you dont think he has underperformed after reading this let's just agree to diagree.

Hey, Pariah. CONGRATS!!

Do your new responsibilities also include selecting this years' cheerleaders?? I keep looking for a position of hot-oil-applicator-trainee for the Bikini caravan bus like the guys in "Dumb & Dumber" but, NO LUCK, so far. Anyways, MAKE US PROUD!! :D

Huh. Maybe you should tell that to the Cardinals. They obviously don't know much about the team.

Calais Campbell's info

I like you man, so I dont want to be rude, but maybe you should go back and read his post. He said DE/OLB. That means a 4-3 DE who can play 3-4 OLB. That is not what either of them are.

How many of those "top linemen" played in a system where the Head Coach got in a pissing match with the starting RB resulting in the team running 6 times in a single game? You can try and simplify your arguement all you want but you have to take every sitiuation and evaluate the situation based on a number of things. Levi Brown is not close to a bust at this point. It is funny how the O-line was ridiculed when Hightower was starting, then they magically played well when edge was reinsterted.

So it's OK to say the draft was a success this early, but too soon to say that it wasn't?

Answer a question I posed earlier, do you like the free agent signing of Bryant McFadden? Because by almost every definition you used McFadden was a huge bust for the Steelers.

He was a 2005 second round draft choice and until this year has only started 10 times and even with this year has had only 18 starts.

Good points.

Off the top of my head though, Odgen and Pace both played for horrible teams and were instantly the best players on the offensive side of the ball. I dont remember much about the Redskins from when Samuels was drafted other than they also got Arrington in that draft. The bottom line is that they were all top 5 picks and all went to bad teams. Levi didn't have it worse than any of them IIRC.

Tackles Solo Assist Sacks Tackloss FF PD
A Smith 41 31 10 3.5 4 2 0
C Campbell 28 23 5 0 2 1 1
Very comparable for a starting 6th year vet and a rookie. Campbell will post better numbers than Smith as a full time starter. Bank it.

Levi Brown was a slight reach, yes. He is turning out to be solid. He started every game in 08 and 11 in 07. He is far from a bust and may be a pro-bowler in the next couple of years.

I wonder why Cardinals organization will give Mike J and the radio station this kind of announcement? I mean I would think Cardinals will make their own announcement. It might not be a big deal...

Did I say that Campbell was a "monumental bust"?? Oops, no I didn't. You were exagerating. McFadden ran the nickelback spot in his rookie year and had 10 less tackles than Campbell, but got a sack and a pick.

You just made a BOLDFACED LIE in print. Nobody ever says DE/OLB without meaning a guy who can do both, depending on the defensive formation (4-3/3-4). Nobody. Find me one single example to the contrary and I will eat crow forever. You and I both know what you meant and so does everyone else. You were wrong, why not just man up and admit it? There isn't a poster on here who hasn't been wrong on here before (except maybe joe?). Hell, I've already taken back numerous things in this thread alone.

How is it comparable when one guy's stats practically double the other guy's stats?? I guess Warner and Kerry Collins both played about the same his year even though Kurt threw for twice as many yards and TDs as Kerry did huh?

Oh and BTW, the team just had Mike Wright in for a visit this past week and if he is signed Campbell will be on the bench again. You can bank on that.
