IMO solid signing and keeps with the Wiz's words of making more competition in camp. I think they have 1 more signing in them. Then draft then watch camp lines for a surprise or two. The wonderfull Wiz has a plan to get us back home for this years super bowl..What the heck it's a good kool aid day.

BTW my entire family and all my friends are eagles fans and they could care less they lost Hood. Not that he was bad but you certainly didnt buy the guys jersey or anything. He is a roster body.

Cards reach deal with cornerback Hood

The Cardinals agreed to terms with a third free agent Saturday, bringing in cornerback Roderick Hood on a five-year deal worth about $15 million.

Hood will compete with Eric Green for a starting spot opposite Antrel Rolle.

Hood played the last four seasons with the Eagles after signing with Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn. In 2006, Hood played in only 10 games because of injury, making five starts and recording one sack. He had a career-high three interceptions in 2005 when he started six of 16 games.

The Cardinals have already signed center Al Johnson and free safety Terrence Holt to free agent deals.
Vice president of football operations Rod Graves said the Cardinals will continue to "keep our eyes open for opportunities" in the free agent market.

The Cardinals are still having discussions with free agent offensive lineman Mike Gandy. The team is also expected to sign one or two lower-end free agents later in the summer.

pretty good for a team that went 5-11, which implies teams they played ran the ball alot with the lead

Cardinals signed CB Rod Hood to a five-year, $15 million contract.

As he wished, Hood will at least be given a chance to start and is likely the early favorite to take over at right corner for the inconsistent Eric Green.

Including Antrel Rolle, Arizona's corners have underachieved so far in their young careers, so the veteran Hood should add some stability.

There has been a lot of good response to him on this board, dating back to when we were listing FAs. Since I have lots of doubts about Rolle, and I think our two weakest and hardest-to-fill positions are OT and CB, I am pretty happy about this pick-up. Now if we can draft some good OTs, fill another hole or two, have good luck with health, and our coaches work out, I would actually predict a winning season! [Glass now almost a quarter full!]

With all the articles saying the Cards don't have much money left, I'm guessing we are probably done with free agency.

I'd like to see us try to re-sign Monty Beisel for cheap if possible. He did a good job in a scab role last year, and I haven't heard much about him visiting other teams.

Cards are said to be expected to re-sign Beisel.

Cards are also said to be continuing talks with Mike Gandy's agent and speculation is that they might squeeze in one more FA (Gandy?) soon and possibly 2 other lower-end guys later in the summer.

I suspect that earnest attempts by media to get their arms around the cap situation represent educated guesses and not hard facts - and that the real numbers we never see may indicate the Cards may have the necessary wriggle room to sign Beisel and somehow get one more deal done.

The Cardinals bolstered their secondary and special teams Saturday by agreeing to terms with cornerback Roderick Hood, an unrestricted free agent from the Eagles.

Hood will sign a five-year deal worth $15 million, including a bonus of $2.5 million and a salary of $1 million the first year.

If Hood becomes a starter, he could earn as much as $23 million during the contract.

Other contract details were not available, so his exact salary-cap figure for this year is unknown. It figures to be at least $1.7 million. If the $2.5 million bonus is treated as a roster bonus, Hood's cap figure will be $3.5 million.

That's significant because the Cardinals were only $7 million under the $109 million salary cap prior to the deal. They likely don't have room for many more free-agent signings. Linebacker Monty Beisel, signed during last season, is expected to re-sign within the next few days.

"We continue to look at opportunities," said Rod Graves, vice president of football operations. "We view the free-agency period as really lasting right up until training camp."

Hood, 25, will compete with Eric Green for the starting job opposite Antrel Rolle. Hood also has experience returning kicks, which was an added attraction for the Cardinals.

"We see him in very much the same role he had in Philadelphia, which was as a nickel back and special-teams player," Graves said. "And he could very well emerge as the starter."

The Cardinals needed to add depth at cornerback. They don't have a proven third cornerback and neither Green nor Rolle is coming off a strong year.

The Eagles signed Hood, 5 feet 11, 196 pounds, as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2003. In four years, he's appeared in 56 games with 13 starts. He missed six games last season because of injury.

He returned kicks for the Eagles in 2004 and 2005, averaging 23.3 yards a return, and also returned punts in college.

"He loves the situation," said his agent, George Mavrikes. "It gives him a chance to go in right now and have the opportunity to start."

Hood is the third free agent from another team to sign with the Cardinals.

I really like this. It gives a guy a chance to earn extra money if he performs well. They should write all NFL contracts like this and quit overpaying these guys.
