QB Kevin Kolb said he isn't worried about concussions. He has new helmet for better protection. "I plan on being in the league a long time."

not much else you can do in his situation. Take as many precautions as possible and hope for the best. I hope he becomes the QB he was expected to be

I want him to be the QB Reid expected him to be when he let McNabb walk

He traded McNabb because Donovan was washed up garbage, its what Reid does when he has a junk QB on his roster that someone else grossly overvalues.

Why'd Andy pay him all that $$$ before he left?

Lot of coin for a guy he had no interest in.

Its a one year deal, coin isnt the question, its about commitment and clearly he had none. I did not say he had no interest, but he clearly was not sold on him as the future QB when he signs him to a 1 year deal, then watches him stink up the joint. Then spends the next several months announcing to the world that he intends to ship off his boy, and we know from past experience that when Reid is shipping off a QB then Reid knows exactly what he is selling and the buyer has no clue what they are getting.

Coin is always a question. Especially when they didn't have to do anything and could have let him play out his contract. I'll bet you you don't see Reid giving Mike Kafka a 10 mill extension.

If Mike Kafka goes into the last year of his contract and is the presumptive starter for that season then yes, I virtually guarantee he woud get an extension in that hypothetical scenario. Might not be 10 million, depends on how much "Andy hype" he uses to inflate his value, but he will get extended.

And if Andy truly thought he had a franchise QB he would not have signed him to a one year extension.

It slays me that some of you are trying to convince yourselves otherwise... he gives the guy a ONE year deal and then proceeds to trade him. And that somehow gets interpreted as that Reid thought Kolb was a future stud.

I'm not ging to rehash this with you again. He gave him a $10 mill extension and named him the starter. No matter what you say, that shows confidence. Where Reid was smart was that he took a wait and see approach with Kolb to make Kolb prove himself worthy. Vick came in and lit it up ==== Kolb is expendable. Or do you really think Reid gave him 10 million bucks, named him the starter, and traded away McNabb just to raise Kolb's percieved value around the league so he could trade him?

He knew McNabb sucked and wanted to sell while there was still value. The one year deal for Kolb shows he clearly was not sold on Kolb either. Kolb then went out and stunk in 2011 and Reid then knew exactly what he had, and sold while there was still value.

I dont care how much money was in the 1 year, you dont build for the future around 1 year contracts. Reid CLEARLY was not enamored with the idea of Kolb as a long term solution even as they traded McFlabb.

One thing I still don't understand is that if Reid was so high on Kolb why did he bench him as soon as McNabb came back in 2009 even though Kolb had won NFC player of the week subbing for McNabb to start the season. Kevin didn't play the rest of the year. Did Kolb get hurt again? Then when Kolb gets hurt Vick comes in but Kolb doesn't get his job back when he gets well. And later when Vick got hurt and Kolb came in Vick got his job back when Mike got well. If Kolb was his QBOF why did Reid keep sending him to the bench? Because he wasn't good enough to beat out either McNabb or Vick or what? Don't know much about the Eagles so just asking.

Maybe its just that Kolb makes whoever takes his place at QB better? First McNabb who one writer said had one of his best seasons in 2009, then Vick whose play surprised almost everyone, and finally Skelton who had those late game comebacks? OK I'm officially on the Kolb bandwagon.

Well, like I said, I dont think Reid was ever high on Kolb, he may have been curious at one point but never saw him as a long term solution. The Kolb trade rumors had been circulating for a long time and Reid spoke of it openly more than once. Between the benching, the shopping, the one year extension I think its pretty clear that Reid saw Kolb as a trade commodity and not much else. And from what we've seen of QBs who Reid is willing to deal it meant Reid had figured out his boy stunk and did so before the rest of the league caught on.

After fooling the rest of the NFL 3 times I doubt he will find many suitors for his next "franchise QB" that he is desperately attempting to trade.

Helmet change has QB seeing five stars

Mike Sando

News that the Arizona Cardinals' Kevin Kolb has switched to a potentially safer helmet to guard against concussions resonated Tuesday.

Kolb is switching from the Schutt XP to the Riddell Revolution Speed Classic model, a version of the model that received five out of five stars and a "best available" rating in safety testing by Virginia Tech. The Schutt helmet received three stars and a "good" rating. Schutt has challenged some of Virginia Tech's methodology, according to a detailed piece ESPN's Gregg Easterbrook put together last year.

Concussions have sidelined Kolb for portions of the past two seasons.

The Seattle Seahawks' Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson are also wearing the Revolution Speed Classic model. Teammate Tarvaris Jackson wears the Schutt XP.

The St. Louis Rams' Sam Bradford is wearing a Riddell Revolution IQ model. This model received four out of five stars and a "very good" rating in the Virginia Tech study.

Some helmets with lower ratings could, in theory, suit an athlete better than higher-rated alternatives based on fit.

I'll update this item with information on what some other NFC West quarterbacks are wearing as I'm able to confirm the information.

I couldn't care less what Reid thought of Kolb. We traded for him so I am more concerned about our evaluation of him and what led us to give him all that money.

A nice idea that a helmet can make a difference, but reality tells a much different story:

"The compromises of helmet design help explain why there will be no quick technological fix for football concussions. Last October, Jeffrey Kutcher, chairman of the American Academy of Neurology's sports section, told a committee of United States senators that all of the current concussion-prevention products being sold were largely useless. "I wish there was such a product [that could prevent concussions] on the market," he said. "The simple truth is that no current helmet, mouth guard, headband, or other piece of equipment can significantly prevent concussions from occurring … It is extremely unlikely that helmets can prevent concussions the way they prevent skull fractures." He went on to criticize numerous claims by helmet manufacturers suggesting otherwise, noting that even Riddell's specialized anti-concussion helmet has only been shown to reduce the rate of concussions by 2.6 percent."

The whole article is definitely worth a read, pretty scary stuff.

I like his attitude..... The only way you stop being injury/concussion prone is if you stop being injured/concussed.

If you can't control it.... Focus on the things you can.
