At the half, the announcers learned that KW was 'disappointed' with Skelton's play early in the game. Yeah, we all knew that Skelton was supposed to developed the ability to become noncorporeal, pass ghostlike through the pass rush, turn solid again, then throw the ball. Damn, how could we have overlooked this ability in our search for a new QB?

No one, not even Warner, would have looked good in the face of that much pressure on every single snap. The offensive linemen should have walked off the field after the first quarter and commited group sepuku (sp?). But who did Whis have to comment about? The QB. Yeah, it's his fault

And, just to prove that he's REALLY an idiot, he benches the kid in the second half. Did he watch the game? Is he really this stupid?

We had better just cut Skelton, sign a couple of vets, and avoid ever drafting a QB while KW is still the coach. He has absolutely no concept how to be patient and develop a QB. No wonder he never got along with Big Ben--he's an idiotic headcase when it comes to young QBs.

What ticked me off the most is that he benched him for a guy who's stand with the Cards will only last a couple more minutes.

Wanna bet that Bartel is at least on the team going in to mini camp next year? Not that I agree with it but I'd say it is about 90%

+100.

At the time I thought it was Ben. Now I'm convinced it wasn't.

We have a rookie QB out of Fordham, and what does Whiz do?

Pass pass pass pass pass pass pass..........

Skelton was horrible. It was on him and not on the O-Line. It was unblocked defenders coming at him and there was so many options and hot reads he missed, I couldn't even watch him out there. Any team is just going to blitz him like that. He just can't make progressions and he doesn't know where and when to go with that football.

It was the right thing to put him on the bench and see if the other guy has something.

I kinda agree with this. By the end of the 3rd Q John Skelton had showed that he can the be number 2 next year and may be able to fight for the starting spot. There was no reason to keep him in there to get pounded on and be forced into a terrible situation. With Bartel, we were able to see enough that we still need a #3 QB next year.

Ugh....

Ever consider what kind of person Roethlisberger is? A complete cornholio as proven by his actions off the field. But he is a good QB, who mind you was mentored by Whisenhunt as an OC. Turned out to be a pro bowler and two time SB winner. Doesnt matter if they hated each other, Whis had a huge role in developing him.

There is zero evidence that proves Whis is a QB destroyer.

And if you are going to reference the Skelton benching in a meaningless game as a barometer of that, then you are just being ridiculous

I don't think he will compete for starting job, he is a number 3 QB with 1 and 2 being a proven vet and a high draftpick.

He has been in there for couple of games, and he still hasnt made any sign of going through progressions. Hall and DA have shown more than Skelton in that regard.

He has no feel for reading the game and he is also inaccurate alot.

I love his size and mobility. Also his fast delivery. But to shame the skills above are absolutely necessary to play the game in NFL.

He is going to be a number 3 and if he ever gets ready and improves, he might be a good QB. Maybe he improves this offseason, who knows, but it's highly unlikely.

Bucky I'm disappointed in your Geography. Tarelton State is slightly South West of Fort Worth. Near Dublin where they make that special Dr. Pepper.

For all the guys jumping on Wiz, Skelton wasn't seeing many open WR's. Hey, the Oline looked like they were on vacation for much of the game but I can't blame his decision. Throw in the fact that Skelton has been less than stellar in any 1 game, plus it was the basically the last qurter of the season.

Wiz was the toast of the town & now he has totally forgot how to coach. He deserves some blame for this mess but players still must play & execute!!! I'm seeing alot of poor exectuion by the players.

TJ your takes are usually good but how can you say this when the Cards have had 5 different QBs fail the last 13 months?

Leinart,Anderson,Hall,Skelton and Bartel. Especially when, except for Hall's size, they've all looked about the same.

The NFL figures everyone out. It took the NFL 2 games to find out that Max Hall couldn't throw the ball 8 yards. It took the NFL 4 games to discover that John Skelton can't/won't get the ball downfield.

It happens. That's why Skelton's a #2 in the NFL. He can lead the team for 4 games, but beyond that he becomes a disaster.

I think CKW said one thing they wanted to do in this game was get some looks at Bartel.

Benching Skelton at that point was beyond ridiculous.

From what Urban was saying on Twitter.. It was pre determined that Bartel was going to get snaps in this game.. So I dont know why following your game plan is ridiculous.. In the grand scheme of things, did this game really matter? So I think Stout and all the Whis haters here are just flying off the handle with this.. They didnt bench Skelton for bad play.. They bench him because they wanted to see Bartel.. And Im sure they notified Skelton of it too so he prolly isnt whining about it either..
