I actually think that Shanny is more rigid in his offense than most other coaches in the NFL. I think that's why he can get a lot out of less-talented QBs than a lot of guys. The creativity he was looking for in Trey Lance definitely is within a broader structure. I don't think Kyler would get along with him at all.

I think the jury is very much out on whether Mike McDaniel is a good coach, so I'm not going to put him in the same conversation as Shanny and McVay. We'll see in a couple years.

McVay dumped a fairly solid QB in Goff because he was risk-averse. He hand-picked a QB in Stafford who worked within the structure of his offense and can make all the throws his offense dictates. I dunno.
Ah, I thought you was just talking from a pure personality standpoint.

I also agree with you on McDaniel, but I know a lot of “NFL Analyst nerds” like the guys at TheRinger, Kevin Clark, The Athletic, Mina Kimes, etc, love him already.

Yeah but they loved Staley until they didn't.

Like David Lee Roth said about Elvis Costello: Critics love him because he looks like them.

Disagree. Kyler is such an outlier is so many different ways. If you get past the physical stature issues, you have the work ethic. Get past the work ethic, you have the communication issues. You get past the communication issues, you have the leadership issues.

I mean, the best ones will find a way to make it work until they have a better option but not the first choice.
Which is the type of HCs & GMs we should be looking for, not the Kliff Kingsburys & Steve Keims all the world.

I believe Kyler has his issues. Big ones. Doesn’t take a genius to know that. However, I said this before, I don’t want just 1 clown regime to be the determining factor for it.

The question is, will a good HC take is chances with KM or does Bidwill need to give him GM/HC rights for 5 years so at least after KM he can try another QB for 2-3 years?

This is the only thing that needs to be said! Yes he has some issues but he also has great talent, I for one would like to see him with a real NFL coach and staff not the KK clown show we have seen is a complete failure!

AJ three years ago was ABSOLUTLEY a walking corpse in Burrow's first year. He was injured for multiple season prior to Burrow showing up and was atrocious for the Bengals which is why they let him walk.

and which was why I was so against signing him as a FA two years ago.

And again, they had ZERO offensive linemen. no good TE. They had Higgins and Mixon. That was pretty much it. Then they added Chase (but again, he was injured a huge chunk of this year and Burrow was still aces.) Meanwhile, you could argue the Cardinals "stockpiled talent" the same way adding Hopkins, Ertz, Hollywood and Conner. Now you can make the excuse that there were injuries and yada yada, but AGAIN, the Bengals offense has missed key personnel in huge chunks and Burrow hasn't skipped a beat. All while having an awful O-line.

it's okay to just admit you're wrong every once in a while.
You’re forgetting Boyd - he’s a stud. The Oline wasn’t good his RC year but if you look at every scouting report ever for Joey B he holds on to the ball too long.. part of the problem. Cinci also went out and got 4 new starters for him on the Oline this year.

I actually prefer Kliff staying (there is a pessimistic side of me that fears we hire someone who has no clue how to use Kyler and his career is truly fkd)

However, a new coach will answer just how much Kyler to needed to grow out of this system.

He's got his issues. Again it was late to practice, not late to a meeting, so lets not lump more stuff on it thats not there. While not solving every issue. Is it just Kyler needs a coach who 100% commands his attention and respect. Other great QBs dont need that. Maybe he needs it to be good.

I think people overlook his background and see just how scheduled and routine he was growing up. That plays a part in how short/quick (no pun) he is with people. Gets it from his dad. He might need to be in a situation that truly makes or breaks him. And that starts with having someone who isnt as loose and he highly respects.

I will say its no coincidence that Kyler was immediately drawn to Colt McCoy in ways he never was with any other backup.

Im just not sure Keim, AW? or whoever along with Mike will bring in that caliber of coach.

I think one thing people forget about Burrow/Bengals it wasnt all sweet last year. Its a reason his QBR was only 54 and that increase happened mostly because he suddenly became a superstar the last month of the season. Before he was just at 23 tds 14 ints until he switched to God mode. TBF he was coming off the knee injury. He even started rough this year. But again Burrow just finds a way to end the year so strong.

I do think at their best they do have the best duo (trio) in the league. Although tough to say with Dolphins this year.

As much as people crap on Kliff offense I actually wish we could have seen his offense with those 3 guys out of the field consistently. I think we'd have a totally different outlook. But such is the life of Bird City.

It’s says it all that he respects Colt more than KK, you know someone who has been in the NFL for over a decade. Opposed to the HC that never deserved an NFL gig trying to run his stupid offense marred by penalties and constant mistakes. Kk must go i’d be willing to bet many players don’t respect or believe he should be an NFL coach! He’s had time to adjust and make changes but seems unaware or unwilling to change either way he should be gone! Suck it up and pay a legit NFL coach to bring a real staff in here and see what can be done.

Agree on everything besides Kliffys offense. I challenge you to go look up Tyrekes, Devantes, Diggs etc game routes vs Nuks. It’s eye popping how limited Nuks is compared to those guys all over the field.

You mean the ONE instance where Kansas initiated the beef, but Baker went overboard with the taunts? Not throwing untimely picks & fumbles like Rattler was doing?

He was never going to make the switch because Baker was playing phenomenal ball two years prior. His play was INCREASING, not DECREASING like Spencer’s. Riley literally had no reason to make the switch between Baker & Kyler. You might would have had a point if Baker was getting worse each year. Otherwise, this is a very point unless it’s just getting your rocks off with Kyler criticism.
Yeah that was a really argument by chopper.

Yeah said this before when he got hurt his first year the guy who replaced him got sacked almost half as often as Burrow did. Burrow is a great QB but he gets sacked because he holds the ball so long. But with that kind of WR talent it allows them to get the big plays

FWIW I think the list of NFL coaches who would be interested in dealing with Kyler after a first meeting is VANISHINGLY small. I don't think Shanahan or Arians or Belicheck or either Harbaugh would have fifteen minutes for Kyler Murray's nonsense.

Maybe Kyler responds to that by changing his mindset, but he's now 25 years old and had the life-altering money that he and his family feel are his birthright.
I think you greatly underestimate how many of these types of athletes these coaches work with every day. Antonio brown kept getting contracts. You think
Kyler is worse than brown from a management perspective?

Antonio Brown is not the quarterback, and notice there wasn’t exactly a bidding war each time he came free.

I don’t think Kyler is worse than Brown, but QBs are held to a higher standard and Kyler’s developed some really bad habits. Head coaches don’t interact with position players as much, either.

While your points are accurate it still true that all of these coaches have dealt with high profile prima Donnas all of their career. They’re used to it. And QBs have all had differences of opinion with their coaches over time. I mean, see the pats QB this season. The best coaches know how to navigate it. Do they seek it out? No. But I think it’s hyperbole to the highest order to just say those guys and kyler would automatically be anathema to one and other. We really don’t know.

The problem with Kliff is he can't just hand the reins to Kyler because Kyler has no interest in imposing his desires or preferences on the offense. I think he just wants to show up and mash buttons to make the scoreboard light up.

This is the best summation I've seen. It's how I've felt but couldn't put into words.

Thanks!!

Well, Aikman did get Smith and Irvin and a stacked oline drafted within 2 years of his first year, courtesy of the Walker trade. They also had a top defense. Something like that won't happen again.

Not to say Kyler is in the same universe to maturity as them, but that Cowboy era was the biggest, luckiest thing to exist. Thanks to Jimmy Johnson too. He has more eye for talent in his pinky finger than Keim ever will.

Colts just lucked out on the biggest generational prospect ever, thanks to the Cardinals for winning the final game of the season to secure the #2 pick instead of #1.

Thank you Cardinals. You always know how to f**k over your fans. Can't win right. Can't lose right. Only thing they can be sure of is to be the pinnacle of embarrassment of the NFL.
I'm jumping in late here, but you are correct and so is Stout. I don't think that Kyler is a great comp to Aikman, because Aikman's worst year was his first year on the worst team in the league that was a full rebuild job in progress. Aikman knew he would lose a lot of games before he would ever win a lot of games.

Kyler had success early and now is struggling so you have a player who spent his entire life never losing and perhaps he doesn't have the experience or maturity to handle it the right way. now I wouldn't say that it is a terrible comp though because Aikman did have trust issues with Jimmy Johnson early in his Dallas career. it took them a couple of years of growth to get on the same page. For Kyler, just like other young QB's who can have success early, you have to get to that next level in your game. Once defensive coaches get film they will expose your weakness and you have to improve.

100% this

To get to the next level in the NFL with all the other players doing their best to improve QB's need to put in as much work as they can to excel
