Much has been made of the fact that he played well the last six games. Well if your agent told you much money was on the line and you needed to show something the last half of the season, what would you do?
But what is his work ethic? Unless the new contract has stiff built in incentives, the Cardinals have messed up again.

What's his work ethic. Dude, he's like the anti-leinart, he works hard, has a good attitude, never gets in trouble with coaches or in public, never gets injured, always shows up. He just lacks, you know, talent. But I'd still take that any day over a dude like Leinart, who has talent, with a sh*tty 'tude, no work ethic, etc. Brown hasn't even hit his stride yet. He's about midway through his career right now, if he plays a decent time. People are too mean to this guy.

Don't fret about the five years. A lot of these contracts are for 5 years because that's how long you can push out signing bonus money. Once the new TV deal and salary cap opens up, a bunch of these guys with inflated salaries are going to be pushed back into the marketplace.

Watch. He'll get $12 million in the first two years of the contract, and then they'll backload the last three years at $10 million a year. He'll never see those last three years.

Agree 100%, and am also 100% convinced that won't stop 99% of people from going bat-**** crazy when the total numbers are released.

Anything will seem too high to dudes who already hate his ass.

I'm glad we resigned him. He's reliable, consistent and durable. Just not all-pro like you guys demand.

First, how do you know other teams didn't show any interest?

Second, who says he was even taking phone calls from other teams? When he was released for cap reasons he and the Cards could have already been very close to a deal so why even go through the free agent process. Considering he was only released two days ago that is the most likely explanation.

Actually I was poking fun at guys who are always saying a player isn't any good simply because he was released or passed over in the draft or isn't garnering any interest in free agency without any real study of the guys play to back it up.

But since you brought it up why in the world would any player do what you claim MIGHT have happened? He'd have to have the dumbest agent in NFL history to not even take phone calls from other teams to see how much money Levi could get on the open market especially with the dollars guys are getting this week. Is Levi's agent Master P ?

Given the Cards cap situation I doubt they could pay Levi Brown more than some other teams unless nobody else really wanted him.

with levi sign how can they make cap space for manning..how many players they need to cut or restructur to create 20 miilion to sign him?..heap and stuckey is just 3 or 4 million..
i think they should cut heap,bradley,stuckley,hadnot,bridges..restructuring wilson dockett fitzgerald.make a new deal with campbell or trading him ..cause if they cant sign long term next season is gone..so maybe is better capitalize something

Manning's not coming here so it doesn't matter!

I don't see this as a bad thing. I thought he would turn out to be Leonard Davis part 2.

One less "new" guy to learn the system. That being said, if one certain QB decides to play here, everyone will be learning a new system.
It could be OK. Or potentially, it could be a bad thing.

It could be tempting now for us to stand pat at OT and have to go thru another season of hell.

I like it. I've thought all along that they should bring him back. I'm OK with Martin at #13 or Bell for LT. I don't think DeCastro will be in the picture at 13. Snyder will play RG, Levi RT. If they sign Bell, then the pick will likely be on the defensive side of the ball, Kuechly, Kirkpatrick, Ingram, Upshaw, Brockers should all be in play.

If Manning doesn't come it DOES matter. You draft an OL, best OG or OT, and have a good running game. This HELPS your passing game, whether it's Kolb, Skelton or Hasselbeck. JMO.

Should be some happy ASFN posters who debated their butts off for this one.

No problem with Levi Brown, except his skill level. Who knows ? Maybe he is a Adrian Wilson and he takes four years to develop (hey, I am trying to find some sugar in all this). Not to mention, IMO. This solidifies that the Cardinals are looking at a OT in this draft, and have 3 or 4 they are willing to take.

Sometimes, actually a lot more lately, the Cardinals do try to do what they say they will try and do.

Graves said he would re-sign Levi at the right price, so to steal from one of my old posts................

Levi Brown. So, what would I do if someone said, "He is coming back whether you like it or not, so what would your plan be?"

Fine. Sign him to a 5 year contract with a final year that brings both parties back to the table. In four years Levi Brown will be 31 years old.

Jeremy Bridges has 1 year on his contract, and is 31 years old.

The Cardinals are going to draft some offensive linemen this draft. If they sign Brown they can leave themselves in a position to be in a psuedo-free position to not be drafting for need. To be clear they need an offensive linemen, but now the need is not at a point where, not only is there a need for an offensive linemen, but he has to be a hit, and has to be able to play ASAP.

Put Brown at LT and Bridges at RT, and hopefully things in the draft go well enough that your OT off the bench will be the predecessor at LT in a year or so. Optimally, the Cardinals draft a player that takes over Bridges spot by the end of next year

lol Quoted myself, what a show of vanity. :mulli:

Oh, well. Plenty of good quotes to hold people on later. The one thing that this move accomplished was by cutting Levi Brown he instantly became better in the eyes of a lot of people. So, the act of cutting Levi Brown, and re-signing him actually HELPED his P.R.

Hey, he is better than about 50% of the league right ?

This was a neccessary signing in my opinion. Not much better out there. He is a hard worker, durable and low-drama (except for all those sacks he gives up!). Also, knows our system. If we can find a better LT in draft or free agency, I think he's a better then average RT, with flexibility to take over LT as needed.
I'm hoping the money ends up being between LT and RT rates, 'cause to me that's what he is.
Most importantly to me, this gives us flexibility in the draft to go BPA (in area of need). Had we not done this, we'd have drafted a OT at 13 for sure. I was truly fearful of us taking Mike Adams at 13.

LT: Brown - Batista
LG: Colledge
(c) Sendlein
(RG) Snyder - Hadnot
(RT) Bridges - Snyder

Don't think there is a o-tackle truly worthy of #13 pick, DeCastro, however, is. There are development tackles available in the 3rd, 4th round as presently projected. Also believe that those who think that Levi is being brought back to play right tackle in 2012 are kidding themselves.

2012

LT: Brown - Batista (later draft pick?)
LG: Colledge - Hadnot
(c) Sendlein - Hadnot
(RG) Snyder - Hadnot (DeCastro?)
(RT) Bridges - Snyder (later draft pick?)

If DeCastro is the #13 pick he steps in at RG on day one and Snyder and Bridges fight it out for r-tackle. Loser, with Hadnot, becomes the key game day backups.

IMO

Don't we have another tackle on the team? I was thinking that they signed a tackle that was on the practice squad earlier this year.

Yes D.J. Young out of Michigan State. Young was called up from the practice squad in December it was rumored the move was to keep the Eagles from signing Young off the PS.

Young is 24 and only played Offensive Tackle for two years in college switching from the Defensive line after transferring to Michigan State.

I know about Batista and he has been around the league for a while. He was not on the practice squad last year.

Fine with resigning him. OT's available in free agency are very poor this year.
Would like to see him back at RT.

This might be a dumb question, but how come noboby ever talks about moving Levi to guard? The whole situation seems very similar to the Leonard Davis story.

Because he's never played a down at guard, while Big had that experience before he went to Dallas.
