I think Keim thought he was getting Dwash part 2 in Reddick but sadly Reddick doesn't smoke enough weed or has no instincts at lber.

Thing is that he has a ton of athleticism and a great attitude and work ethic so I haven't given up on him yet.

Dwash has played ilb in college so the comparison can be used just for the athletics skillset

With regards to Mahomes, there's no doubt the Cards were going to draft him. BA said Mahomes was among the top 3 smartest he has ever seen on the whiteboard along with Peyton Manning(the other name escapes me).

I think if we'd drafted Mahomes, Arians would still be here.

The Arians haters have a lot of egg on their face right now.

He doesn't seem done flying around the country doing games.

Flying around and talking about football once a week is not even close to the level of stress that a HC deals with on an hourly basis.

BA wanted to leave the team with a QBOTF but it never materialized while he was a coach.

We didn’t draft him. Which should put egg on both Keim’s and Arians face

Bruce I’ll throw every player under the bus but I’ll defend my coaching staff even when they’re horrible to the end of the day Ariens time was up here as a head coach

It’s a good thing we’ve found a replacement who does something different

What players did he throw under the bus? He won 8 games with Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert!

Simple fact
They are 3-4 linebackers NOT 4-3 guys
For those that don’t know the 3-4 lb is much smaller and faster than a traditional 4-3 guy
The 4-3 requires them to put there nose in with the big boys and smaller guys don’t want to do that.
They would be great in a Jets uniform
But there value is nothing more than a 5 or 6
Someone in a 3-4 is gonna get a steal.

Thomas Davis: 6'1", 235
Luke Kuechly : 6'3", 238
Shaq Thompson: 6'0", 230

Haason Reddick: 6'1", 235
Deone Bucannon: 6'1", 211

Reddick is big enough, and he's fast enough. He's just not smart or instinctive enough. It's worth remembering that Reddick actually couldn't play in a 3-4 defense either.

Bucannon probably needs to be better protected. I know that people like to say that he could/should go back to safety, but I haven't seen anything that tells me to trust him in the deep middle of the field.

What is really, really going to be awful, is if these to guys go to other teams, and become stars.

Don't tell me it's not possible. I've seen it happen with Ex-Cardinals players before.

Pretty much all of them. From day one he would publicly call out the players for making mistakes, etc. But never blamed himself or his coaches. It was ALWAYS the players fault

DB20 rarely speaks to the media ... he had a lot on his mind.

Man, remember this?

https://www.azcardinals.com/news/cardinals-downplay-possible-scheme-change-20295894

In his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Wilks stressed he wouldn’t be making widespread changes to the defense, but didn’t definitively say which scheme he will use.

...

“We’re not going to change too much,” Wilks said. “If it’s not broke, don’t worry about trying to fix it.”

...

“(Wilks) knows defensive football,” Keim said. “As he said earlier, when you talk about a 4-3, a 3-4 -- he’s going to put guys in position to succeed.”

...

"I don’t have a scheme, I have a system,” Wilks said. “And when you have a system, you’re willing to adapt to the personnel that you have, not only in that particular week, but throughout the whole year. I think right now, when you look at some of the guys up front, particularly Chandler, for one, we’ve got great pass rushers, like you mentioned. I don’t foresee trying to do a lot. I mean, if you can get there with four, we’re not going to pressure a lot, but I think it’s all based off week-to-week and what the offense is trying to give you from a scheme standpoint.”

I bristled when people asserted that Deone Bucannon was, like, really good (better than Dansby or Washington). He's not really good. But he's a servicable football player, and I don't understand how he can't get on the field ahead of Gerald Hodges, who is the definition of a journey man.

Who is this defense highlighting?

I get frustrated with the Bucannon situation on a couple of different levels.

1-If you were going to make the defense work with the pieces you had, then you needed to find a way to make Bucannon work based upon what he can do. People aren't wrong when they say that he is a guy who works hard to do what he can do. It doesn't matter at this point if it is equitable to the area of the draft that we drafted him. If you keep this guy on your roster, you find him something meaningful to do.

2-If you weren't going to adjust your scheme to make him work, you should have cut him prior to FA. The NFL is a business, everyone gets it, but now the team is impacting Deone's future contract by putting him into a situation where he can't succeed. We are well passed that point now, but the team should either start him, cut him, or trade him ASAP. This points to trust and respect, and coaches lose locker rooms by having an environment where players do trust the coaches and feel that the coaches do not respect them as professionals. I know you don't have to, but doing players a solid when you don't have to is what makes free agents want to play for your team and smooths negotiations with agents.

This is a pretty big deal, actually. Deone's getting $8 million guaranteed in the last year of his deal, and the team has benched him for Gerald Hodges. No one thinks that Gerald Hodges is playing good football.

Was Deone injured during the offseason? I honestly don't remember; that 5th year option is only guaranteed for injury, and became fully guaranteed (IIRC) in the new league year. If he was nursing that ankle at the end of last year, the Cards may not have had a choice.

I had not read anything stating that Bucannon was still rehabbing or nicked up at the beginning of the league year.

IMO it is a dirty move by the Cardinals as Deone doesn't seem to be a problem in the locker room and I have never heard of him not being a hard worker. You treat a guy like that in this way during a contract year, it has ramifications.
