As things stand we'd pick 5th in the draft, Here's a list of what are likely to be the top 7 picks in the draft. I'd be kay with any of these but Fairley only because I dont see DT as a need at all.

Andrew Luck
Da'Quan Bowers
Nick Fairley
Patrick Peterson
Prince Amukamara
AJ Green
Robert Quinn

I thought that the first tie-breaker was not strength of schedule, but, head-to-head. As such, Dallas would be five and the Cards number six.

You forgot Cam Newton. Not saying the Cards should pick him but I think he will go in top 7 as many teams need a qb and some team will be willing to roll the dice on Newton.

If we're completely married to the 3-4 (which I believe to be folly with our personnel) then Robert Quinn would be an instant upgrade as a rushbacker.

But I hope we see how much better we play as a 4-3 and take Bowers if he's available. Bowers has Julius Peppers-like size and athleticism.

Hopefully, we will win next week, and be out of the top 10
I agree.

-- changed my mind.
Historically it's mostly the same teams that pick in the top 10; bad ones.

That will change if a rookie cap is put into place when the NFL resumes.

More teams will be willing to trade into the top spots and making a bad pick won't screw a team up for years.
Teams can spend more on FA and veterans.

More drama on draft day?! People are going to die of suspense!

Nope head to head never matters for the draft

OK...

But are we certain that we are number #5 based on the following?

(Note: Strength of schedule is the combined records of a team's 16 opponents, including games played against the team in question, and counting divisional opponents twice. Because of this, each team's opponents' combined wins and losses—counting a tie as a half-win, half-loss—will add up to 256, so a team whose opponents had more combined wins has a better strength of schedule.)

1 - Luck
3 - Newton
2 - Bowers
5 - Peterson - Punt & Kickoff Return Skills make him a big pickup. Toler at Nickel? Our pass rush would have more time. Plus, I hate DRC as # 1 right now.
4 - Fairley

In no particular order. Ehh... Made an order anyways. lol

Looking at something just a moment ago--

there are ten NFL teams -- a third of the league-- that have either 5 or 6 wins

that just strikes me as alot

Next week has huge implications for our draft position. We could pick anywhere from 2nd to 10th. If we lose, we'll be picking 2nd to 5th depending on the following games:

SD@Denver
Cin@Bal
Buf@NYJ

*Note SD has been eliminated, Bal needs to win and have Pitt lose to win division, but has clinched, NYJ needs to win and have Bal win and Pitt lose to get the 5 seed, otherwise they will be the #6. So NYJ will probably rest their starters. Bal will probably go all out, and SD who knows what they do in a meaningless game.

If we win the following games matter:

Min@Det (If Min loses on Tuesday, we'll be picking behind one of them with a win next week)
Pit@Cle
Dal@Phi
Jax@Hou

If we win, we'll automatically fall behind SF in the draft. Assuming Min loses to Phi Tuesday, we'll be behind Det or Min with a win. Pit should crush Cle since the game still matters for Pitt. Dallas should lose, but Phi has a short week. But Phi is still playing for a first round bye if they win Tuesday. Jax can still technically make the playoffs if they win and Indianapolis loses. I wouldn't count on it though.

Needless to say, I'd expect us to pass 4 of those 5 teams plus SF with a win. That would put us at #10.

When looking at next year's draft remember the Cards are drafting for the future, 2-3 years out, and that in all likelihood no one taken in the draft will have an impact on the team early in the season.

To get an indication of who they might draft look at the current roster to see who they will need to replace in 2-3 years.

The starters we have now will be the starters next year with the exception of those replaced by free agents. So I'll be looking harder at the free agent lists than at the draft prospects.

i think coach wise((where?)hunt can start to change his mind about rookies cannot play starters in their first season

I think this is why we're getting a lot of snow today. Hell completely froze over to the point of overflowing because the Lions have won 3 in a row.

We will not get a corner... count on it. DRC is a pro-bowler and Toler showed enough. Even though both had issues this season, corner is not a big need for us. Pass rush is.

I think you're right in that we won't be targeting Pat or Prince with our first round pick, but I think we'll add another corner at some point in the draft and possibly even FA as well. I'd be very happy adding Ras-I Dowling or Brandon Harris with our 2nd rounder or adding someone like Richard Marshall via FA.

But we really need to address our pass rush in a major way.

Corner isn't a huge need but you don't pass on elite prospects like Prince and PP. Toler is a decent CB but PP and Prince have the makings to be perennial pro bowlers.

I'm not sure if I trust Toler enough to be the #2, he is great against the run but he gets beat a lot.

Of that list I hope we get one of the corners.

Why would anyone want a CB? It is the lowest need we have. You could have the 2 greatest corners to ever play the game but if your giving up 150 yards rushing a game and cant get to the QB what does it matter?

After watching NFL QBs such as

1. Tom Brady
2. Peyton Manning
3. Aaron Rodgers
4. Drew Brees
5. Jay Cutler
6. Phillip Rivers

I don't see how anyone can put Cam Newton on a pedestal as a high 1st round draft pick. As an athlete, Newton posses some raw talent. As a QB, he has nothing in common with the above mentioned QBs. Picking Newton Top 10 is a huge reach based on some freaky skillset that does not translate to the NFL.

Newton has less experience and skills than Tebow and Tebow was the last pick in the 1st round and was a total reach.

The last batch of QBs taken top 10 are far and away better risks than Newton.

1. Matt Ryan
2. Sam Bradford
3. Matt Stafford

If Newton is the next

Matt Leinart
JeMarcus Russell
Vince Young

would you really want to spend a top ten pick on Newton. Not me.
