Mehhhh just our luck when we might have a good center for once he might end up having chronic back problems..

We should try to get another true center sized player that could also move down to PF to play with Lopez. Someone like Cousins.

Great plan! We can use all of our bountiful assets to get Cousins in the top 5!

Someone "like" Cousins.

I don't know I have seen some GS and Nets fans suggest sign and trades with Cousins for Amare if they get the #3 pick.

Whiteside would be good, draftexpress has him at #18 right now. Gives us another legitimate talent at the center position to split minutes with Lopez which will be crucial.
These back issues really scare me they just seem to never go away for big men once they pop up.

Plus even if Lopez is fully healthy we need a second legitimate center anyway so we don't have to play a 6'11 SF at Center like Frye. Really Frye should be the backup PF of the future.

Im not TOO worried about Lopez missing the road trip, but if he is screwed for the playoffs, the whole team is screwed. I have confidence that Jaron Collins can take Lopez's starting spot, while letting Amare do the scoring.

I don't see how Collins can start in place of Frye. He is not even an offensive threat, he is definitely going to get some minutes now. Hopefully Frye will hit his shots with more consistency on this road trip.

But we dont need Collins to be an offensive threat. All we need for Collins to do is to play defense and rebound. We got enough scoreres in our starting lineup, e.g J-Rich, Nash, Amare. So Collins being the defender in the paint will do nicely.

i was waiting for some bad news...i wasnt but you knew it was coming.
lets see, last year stat goes down with the eye.
before that, hill has a strain that sidelined him.
the numerous playoff incidents(cheapshot rob hipcheck, the bloody nose, the suspensions, JJ breaking his face, etc)

lets see how roLo recovers from this.
the roadtrip is still favorable though.

Dont forget last year, with LB injuring his ankle, in the last few games of the season. It was a pity, he was in really really good form.

Collins' presence as starting Center will positively affect our scoring, even if he doesn't put up a lot of points.

It will allow Amar'e to continue to be a scoring monster at Power Forward.

If Frye moved back to starting Center, Amar'e would once again be the de-facto Center and go back into his funk of playing out of position. I don't blame him for that.

All we need is a role-playing defensive and rebounding Center alongside Amar'e.

I hope giving Collins this opportunity results in him being the backup Center when Lopez returns, moving Frye to backup Forward, where he belongs.

This might be what Alvin Gentry needs to really break the Suns history of going weak in the post.

Here is an update from Paul Coro at azcentral dated March 28th, 2010 about Robin Lopez's back condition.
Suns center Robin Lopez will miss at least eight games while being out for two weeks because of a bulging disk in his back.

Lopez will have a week of rest followed by a week of rehabilition before he is re-evaluated on April 12. The Suns' regular season ends with April 13 and 14 games.

The plan was put together today after Lopez's bulging disk in his lower back was examined by the team back specialist, Dr. Christopher Huston of The Orthopedic Clinic Association. The team called it a "conservative treatment of medication, rest and rehabilitation."

It's sounds questionable if he will be ready for the playoffs unless he recovers even better than expected.

The Suns site says its a HERNIATED disk. I'm pretty sure this is much worse than bulging.

Almost couldn't be worse news...just unbelievably bad luck. A bad back has ruined the career of many a big man, hopefully it's a temporary problem, but sounds like there is a chance he won't even be back come playoff time.

IMO, yes, because a herniated disc has a perforation in the disc which can release particles that may touch the nerve. The good news I heard is that I did not hear of any leg pain with Lopez.

Back to coughing up huge leads. Wonderful. Why does God hate this team?

Lopez was a huge loss and was instrumental in the Suns stability by his ability to clog up the middle defensively.

i hope Collins improves because he sucked as a starter today and our offense was stagnant in the 1stQ and when he returned. His rebounding sucked too, i like the dude but the Suns need a much better backup C

I would argue that Lopez is maybe 3rd or 4th most important player on this team.

Defensively, he protects Amare and is athletic enough on the offensive end that Nash compensates for his inabilities.

I was beginning to believe that we would have the potential to contend for an NBA Championship, but w/o Rolo, those hopes are out the window. Who'd of thunkit.

That being said, is anyone surprised his back hurts after watching him play? The dude has the worst posture I've seen. It must take a toll on him...
