I just can't buy that the show writers would hand us the next main character to die on a silver platter. Has anything up to this point been so easy or obvious?

I think he's flashing currently, not reliving it over again Groundhog Day or Replay style. He sees a bit ahead.
I really loved this episode..it got back to the kind of stuff I really liked about lost in general...the overall weirdness of it all. Cage matches and the Jack/Sawyer/Kate triangle got old, fast.
Yeah - Des is one of my favorites on the show.
I don't think he will be killed anytime soon. Actually I think he will make it to the end. I think Charlie is going to die before this season is over.

Sorry to spew chunks... but here are my thoughts.
1st Season - fantastic, mind blowing each episode. Was really happy I waited and could watch on DVD, so I could go on to the next episode immediately.
2nd Season - still pretty good. Same thing with the DVDs but didn't mind waiting a night here and there before watching the next episode or two.
3rd Season - doesn't bother me in the least that I won't see the next episode for a week, in fact, I'll tivo it and probably not even watch until Thursday or Friday.
IMO, this is because of a lot of the same issues other people have:I could keep going. I'm annoyed because this is the only show I watch, and its jumping the shark, which by the way, had some weird dharma stamp on it, but that was the first season so forget about it ever being mentioned again.
- There are too many tangents, and I don't really give a rats ass about most of the new characters
- I feel like a lot of the characters that were previously built up at great length are now completely forgotten about
- They changed the focus to the Jack/Sawyer/Kate cage match for too long at the beginning of this season
- So many unanswered story line points there's no way they're going to cleanly wrap this up, and if they do, its going to take way too long to do so. Kind of like the Xfiles going on for 4 seasons too long, and still not getting to a decent conclusion. At some point, I'm going to cut my losses just like I did with that series too.
- What mysterious island phenomenon are we discussing this week? Or do we simply forget about all the other mysterious crap for this week, and decide to introduce time travel/alternate time universes or whatever the hell you want to call it instead? What is this, Dr Freaking Who?
Here's a thought: do you think Claire's baby (aaron?) might be one of the people on the island -- he would be a product of time travel...existing on the island as both infant and adult.
He could maybe be Alex's boyfriend? Henry? (didn't Henry say he's been on that island his whole life?) Maybe Aaron, Henry and Alex's BF are all the same people from different times?
Man, you guys dont spoiler ish in this thread...
Just read in the paper up here(front page) that rating have severely dropped for this show. Said that it is fading fast. A network exec was quoted as saying that it has slipped to far to fast and that it will be back for one more season next year and that will be the end of lost. Sucks if true. I still really like it.
Why did they have that gap anyway?
I love time shifting etc, that's what made the Terminator movies so interesting to me, but this is a new twist on it to be sure since Desmond seems to have partial memory of what's happening, most of the other people don't, except for the woman who didn't want to sell him the ring.
And the part that I really didn't like is if Charlie was supposed to die trying to rescue Claire, why the hell was Charlie out in the forest a mile away? the only reason Charlie ever got involved in that rescue was Desmond saw it before it happened and went running, Charlie would have been nowhere near the beach otherwise. Just didn't make any sense, if you replay that incident without Desmond seeing the future, Claire drowns with Charlie a mile away doesn't she?
If Des did then he did it unknowingly. You remember the confused look on his face while he was envisioning Claire's demise?I love the time shifting also. It really messes with your mind.
Regarding Charlie being too far away, I thought about that too. I came to the same conclusion Jason did, Des brought him into the jungle on purpose to keep him from entering the water.
