I thought the 'others' have a problem with their women going through pregnancy? So how could there be descendants? Maybe that is only a recent issue...

Perhaps that's tied with Dharma, who we know hasn't been around since the Black Rock was shipwrecked. Maybe the descendants from the Black Rock were on the island for a long time, then in the 60s or 70s or whatever, Dharma came, built their facilities, and had the descendants become caretakers with the scientists--soon everyone co-mingled and they became one big group. And then from the scientist's experiments or whatever, the pregnancy thing happened.

So they bring over Juliet to try to fix the problem. However, why didn't they bring over her sister, who, like Claire, was pregnant to begin with? Why didn't they bring her over with her child, since they seem so desperate to populate again (kidnapping children from the flight, stealing babies, etc.).

I mean, we all know, Sun will be the next one that gets kidnapped or whatever.

but that was only 16 years previously and the others are all older than 16...

The Black rock was a slave ship. It would have to be at least 150 years old or so.

I don't think the others and Dharma were co-mingling. Even though the others lie I think we are supposed to believe a lot of the background they give us. Mikhail sure made it sound like they were two separate groups.

I could buy into the idea that something that Dharma put together or were experimenting with was causing the problems with childbearing.

I am loving these new episodes! So much to take in!

Did anyone else notice Ms. Hawking in the picture on Brother Campbell's Desk? I wonder what their connection is?

Yeah, she's the lady from that jewelry shop right?

Interesting how two people like that were key to keeping him on his path.

I am so looking forward to seeing where this goes--looks like Sun becomes the centerpiece the rest of the season--about time she got some screen time this season.

And as a side note, did you guys notice where Sawyer got his "mix tape"?

Yes - a shout out to all of us wondering where they are.

So... did Desmond misread his vision and incorrectly assumed that the parachuter was Penny, or did he accidentally change who that person was supposed to be when he saved Charlie?

I missed it...you guys are so cryptic.

Where did he get the tape from? And where are they???

I thought the best line of the night was defintely from Sawyer.

"Do I need to make you a mix tape?"

My wife and I were dying.

I just think he was hoping it was here and he has a feeling she's looking for him, and then he saw the book that fell with their picture in it...so he just assumed it would be her.

Still, this is amazing...that someone came looking for him and found him...

The helicopter crashes...because something protects the island?

fantastic episode tonight - good stuff!

sound was screwed up - i wonder if it was only effecting the HD watching crowd?

the mix tape and the shout out was hilarious - i also hope those two are back and get some screen time next season. even if they could work in a shot of them sans speaking role in the last few episodes here would be cool.

i don't think desmond knew for sure who was coming - but he had a strong feeling it might be Penny. i'm guessing that when he saved charlie that might have altered who showed up - but it's so hard to tell since we won't see what happens in that scenario (unless they put a deleted episode on the dvd that covers it). with desmond constantly interfering, this is becoming like one of those "choose your own adventure books".

I must be the only one who thought last night's episode was a bit of a letdown after the last few (with the exception of the Nikki/Paulo one).

I can't help but wonder if we are in for another twist. Once Desmond showed the ability to see the future and I was pretty sure that he would find some way to go back and let Penney know to look for the electromagnetic anomaly. So it doesn't surprise me that someone having to do with her has come looking for him.

However, I'm thinking it's possible that her father got wind of this discovery and has sent someone to take care of him. Perhaps I'm just over thinking the whole thing.

I'll watch last night's episode again while I'm giving up, but I didn't think it was actually a helicopter. I mean how does someone eject from a helicopter exactly?

The mix tape thing was hilarious. I also thought it was really funny when Jin was telling the scary story in Korean with his flashlight under his chin.

I think it would be incredibly cool if the back story for the final episode of the season was Ben's.

Hi Joe
So, what did you think the second time around?

I did some research - apparently there is a helicopter that you can eject from - the Kamov Ka-50. Supposedly, it has a rocket booster which propels the pilot from the cockpit, but also, before that, the blades of the helicopter are jettisoned.

It's a single-seater, though, so the theory that Penny might still be there, just somewhere else, wouldn't work with this idea.

It's actually not that hard to eject, if you don't mind getting sliced to bits by the rotors!

It was funny they even said that on the show how do you eject from a helicopter which was exactly what I was thinking too.

You don't eject.. you jump out and downward. Even then your odds are pretty good of getting diced up. My problem with it being a helo is the flight time. How do you ge a helo out in the middle of no where? By having a fuel source close (another island).

There is alot of money in the background characters and I have to think they all have some shared interest in Dharma and Mittlose (SP??). Could the pilot of the helo been an employ of Mittlose but trying to help Penny find Des?

Otherwise using a helicopter was a bad choice by the writers...

What if the helicopter belonged to the Others? What if, using their mainland resources, they were able to track down a picture of Des and Penny--or actually, the negatives, since it appeared to be the same picture--and use it as a ruse.

Another thing puzzled me. The helicopter seemed to be coming from and crashing out to sea, but the parachuter seemed to be coming from a different direction. Wind currents can be a plausible explanation, but wouldn't the parachuter come from the sea where the helicopter crashed?

As for Des "changing" who the parachuter is, I don't think that theory holds any water. They still have the stuff in the bag with the picture, so that's why I think it might be a set-up. However, if this is truly a person working with Penny to find Des and she had the picture to ID him, then it will be a momentus event in the mythology of this series: A person from the "real world" actually lands on the island--the first since the plane crash (and another victim of a "crash"--hmmm).

Actually, Desmond "changing" future events by altering current events is plausible given all the philosophical references they have gone into plus the idea of "possible worlds" is still out there as a viable explanation - in my opinion.
