This show is so freaking good right now. I thought Locke's dad was the biggest A-hole on the planet. The more that guy opened his mouth the more I wanted Sawyer to shut him up.

The show is going to go out with a bang. Our resident Jane of the Jungle is going to blow something up. We are going to get some answers about the island and it sounds like Jack has had something up his sleeve all along.

The last episodes can't come fast enough for me.

According to the cable guide next weeks episode teasers says this:

"Ben begrudgingly introduces Locke to the islands secrets, including mysterious Jacob; Juliet's secret goes public"

So-- are people speechless, or...?

Funny how the whole "island as purgatory" theory has cropped up in a BIG way. Although because it has become such a major plot point now, it's just gotta be false.

James Ford kicks ass!

Yeah the whole Purgatory theory was around since the begining of the show. Now it has become a major part of the plot. Which I agree means that it will end up being completely false.

Yep they denied multiple times that was "the answer" so it can't be it now or they're going to look very bad for denying it earlier in the show.

I really do think they're reading all this internet discussion on the show and throwing some of it in just to amuse themselves.

Next week is the episode I've been waiting for since the S3 premiere. Finally a Ben-flashback episode.

I think the same way, then you wonder what Lockes dad meant when he said
"You still don't get it? You still don't know where we are?"

I'm diggin this season

I don't think there is any freaking heaven or hell, or Eden, or whatever.

The Others found out about Locke being special somehow, and then found out about his dad. They knew he was hanging on to him somehow, so they grabbed him.

Ben said Locke brought him here...I think that was double-talk for saying they HAD to get him here to help Locke move forward.

There is no purgatory, etc.

But there is something definitely mystical going on.

Bingo. Locke's dad said that he saw the paramedic smile and then nothing until he woke up on the island. These are people that do whatever needs to happen to get what they want (i.e. hitting Juliette's husband with a bus after she said the only way she would leave is if that were to happen).

The found crash was something to keep people from looking for the crash survivors and interfering with their experiments.

while i agree they have a certain level of control in events, i still do not think we have any adequate answers as to how they are able to do those things - such as "death bus for hubby".

I have a question... Sawyers file and all the information that is in it. How do the 'others' get the info? I mean it is all knowing information that in most cases there would be no way to get it. Maybe the Patriot Act....

The same way they can trick the world into believing that all of the passengers of Oceanic 815 are dead. They've got some high powers in the world.

Hanso Foundation: A board member is one of the founders of Paik Automotive

Magnus Hanso was the captain of the Black Rock Ship: Which suggests that they've known for centuries that the island beholds something special and they would use every bit of authority and control they have to ensure nobody finds out what it does.

i still think that they can control events (desmond's arch, jules' husband and the bus, etc). and if you can control events you have to have enough knowledge and information about ancillary events as well because they are interconnected. so i am not surprised that they can have whatever quantity of information they have because that is the only way that they can effectively control events to play out to their ultimate purpose

I still think there might be more than one "they." I don't think the people "guiding" Desmond are the "Others." Nor, do I think that the Others were all about pushing the button (they didn't seem to have any idea what the hell happened when the hatch blew up or why it messed with their communications) ...meaning the Others are not part of the Dahrma initiative.

but, obviously, it's just a half-baked theory.

Can I get a refresher course?

In the episode "The Man From Tallahassee" (the one where Locke blows up the sub), who was the man from Tallahassee?

Remember, when Locke had Ben's daughter hostage in the closet he tells one of his guys to go get TMFT...but I forget who that was...or do we even know?

i'll have to disagree with you because i think the Others know much more than what they let on. somehow, someway, they are either master manipulators or else they have the ability to control and shape events. i personally think that any 'surprise" they show is feigned.

Even to each other? There were at least two scenes when they were being observed, unaware of anyone's presence and they made references to their inability to communicate.

These are all good theories, I didn't think of the "manipulation of events" angle.
Great, now I'm going to have to start figuring out things in that direction.
Great show!

i'll have to check out that episode again. you might be correct, and i'll have to think about how it affects my theory.

I forget in which episodes those references are, but I know they were trying to figure out what the heck happened, and there wasn't anyone there to try to fool.

Also, re: "The Man from Tallahassee" - So, Ben called for Locke's dad when Locke had his daughter at gunpoint in the closet? Wow! I'll have to think about that. What the hell does that mean to the story? (other than Ben has icewater running through his veins).

ben is a cool customer (no pun intended). he doesn't seem to get rattled too easily and i think that is part of his mystique and power - always seeming like he is in absolute control and that he has all his bases career.
