another question. If I heard correctly, Penny asked Charlie "how did you get this frequency" when they were talking? But Charlie didn't call Penny, she called him because the light said incoming transmission?

So did Charlie really just turn off the blocking or did he also unknowingly "Call"
Penny?

It seems highly coincidental that the second the blocking stops, she calls, even if she has some way of detecting the blocking stopping what are the odds that it happens when she's sitting right where she needs to be to make
the call?

I agree. I think this one will be hard for them to explain. She just happens to be on a video conference call and they pick it up.

Although there are real people sitting out in the desert right now listening for aliens. So I guess it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that she spends her days listening for a signal from her lover.

Why she would be listening from a Video Conference terminal I have no idea? OK now this makes no sense at all. I'm back to being completely confused.

OK now I've got it.

Desmond has figured out a way off the island and can return to the past and relive his life.

That is what happened with Jack and Kate. Hence why Jack's father is still alive.

The only problem is that they always end up back on the Island.

I'm not sure Charlie is really dead...I'm not sure Ben is really as bad as perceived...I'm not sure I know what I'm talking about!

"The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft. Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham (sic) is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening."

Can't vouch for the authenticity of this, but it is making the rounds out there. I want to see the screenshot from when jack grabs the paper on the plane...looked much more clear there.

I don't know why you all think Jack's dad is alive. The drugs really seems to mess him up and didn't you guys see how those doctor's looked at him when he talked about his dad? He was going insane, that's all.

I don't think he's alive. It was part of Jack's insanity, and a way to fool us into thinking flashback and not flashforward.

I agree, somewhat, because the producers have said that Jack's dad is dead. I think it was on one of those "podcast" question and answer session.

I say "somewhat" though, because if there is one thing I'm sure of with this show, it's that I'm never really sure of anything!

Okay, I have been sick for days and the only time I have been awake most of the week has been to go to work and to watch Lost. I am just now catching up with this thread and all I can say is WOW!!!! Can't wait to watch the finale again. Didn't realize that we had to wait so long for the new episodes to start :( but what can you do?

I'm still trying to process everything.

I can't believe nobody has brought this up yet though... Jack kept saying, "call my father."

Jack's father is dead... isn't he?

Joe

I totally missed that. (Must be the meds.)

oh - and me thinks the people coming are Dharma peeps on the war path.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were true. After all, Dharma was still doing food drops to the island after Ben went and killed everyone, so when did Dharma learn that all its people were gone?

~Charlie had a lot of time after Mikial blew the porthole. He could have closed the door from the outside or simply gone out and put on tanks with Des and swum out. He didn't have to drown. I think that scene was handled poorly from that angle (liked it, though. Just wish it would have been quicker).

I agree. I'm guessing that maybe Charlie felt like he HAD to die in order for the rescue to happen?

I'm not sure Charlie is really dead...I'm not sure Ben is really as bad as perceived...I'm not sure I know what I'm talking about!

I wonder if Charlie is truly dead as well.

As far as the funeral being for Locke, how do we even know that he left the island? Maybe he stayed? We really don't know that anyone left the island except for Kate and Jack, right?

Oh, and Locke. I found it odd that he so easily killed Naomi, but couldn't kill his father, who obviously tried to kill him. I didn't like that. Yeah, I know it was his father and all, but really.

Charlie is dead, he aint coming back :)

He died because he knew he needed to. It was peaceful and he wanted to do what he did. Desmond kept telling him he was going to die and how, so he let it happen.

And Jack's dad is dead still, it was just Jack on drugs.

Yeah, some people can come back alive I guess, but not those who are buried alive or drowned in a small room with no way out.

I just can't buy the theory that Ben is a "good guy", not after all the crap he's done. Now, RICHARD, maybe I could believe he is a good guy at heart, but not Ben, who had Sayid, Jin and Bernard shot without any ounce of remorse (or so he thought). There's another question that might have been answered--why didn't Ryan shoot the 3 of them after Tom told them? I know Tom was upset that they DIDN'T shoot them, but I don't remember why. Does anyone remember if they said why? Right before Hurley pulverized him with the van?

Hey Chap - I think that Ben had told the three "others" that were holding Sayid, Jin, and Bernard hostage to shoot the ground three times if he called and told them to kill the hostages. If you notice when the three "other's" are arguing about Ben one of the guys says something to the effect, "I don't care what Ben said, we should have killed the three of them" and the other guy says something like, "Orders are orders."

Also, about Locke...

He had a gun. But WHY did he kill Naomi with a hunting knife?? The gun obviously worked because Locke shot the ground near the phone as Jack went towards it. Why was Naomi killed with a knife when he had a perfectly good six shooter? Not wanting to waste bullets? That doesn't fit since he wasted one on that shot near the satellite phone...

I don't remember Tom saying that--I remember him asking why they just didn't kill them. I don't remember him saying the he doesn't care what Ben said, but I'll have to watch it again to find out exactly what he said.

I remember Tom saying something about Ben not "thinking clearly" lately. and that they should have shot the 3 for real instead of shooting into the sand like ben told them.

Good Point! Obviously there's more going on than we realize (ha ha - that's the whole show :D) - When Locke said "You're not supposed to do this." I thought back to Desmond's "flashback" when the jewelery shop owner, Ms. Hawking, basically said the same thing to Desmond...

So, what does Locke know?

Actually it was done poorly because the room never would have flooded. Being completely submerged (and theoretically sealed) the air in the room had no place to go, so the water would have only filled the room until the pressure between it and the air was equal. If the air had a place to escape, then the water would have escaped with it and flooded the rest of the Looking Glass.

I was also thinking Jacob is Jack. When Jack was on the bridge about to jump it sounded like he whispered "help me". The same "help me" that Locke heard when Ben took him to Jacob. Anyone else notice that? I didn't rewind to find out if that was exactly what Jack said but I thougt so.

I think he said "Forgive me." But as for who Jacob is, I don't know. They're going to have to do some flash backs to justify why Ben's people believe he talks to a poltergeist and why that grants him authority.
