Who was the random guy playing golf? I don't remember seeing him before.
He said something in the previous episode, too. When locke was giving his "speech" at the end, he and a girl piped up about something and I was like, "hey, who the hell are you? Shutcho mouth."

He referenced a woman that he seemed to be feuding with in his exchange with Desmond. I'll bet that comes into play before too long, also.

He was in 3x03 for a few minutes. His name is Paulo. He and Nikki are supposed to survivors that were there all along but are only now featured.

Incidentally, there was originally going to scene in 3x03 with Paulo and Nikki caught by Claire having sex in Jack's bed, but it was cut.

OK my theory on the patch guy from the preview... he's a ghost of one of the sailors from the Black Rock. Kinda looked like a pirate with the eye patch and stuff.

I'm finally caught up to the new episodes! Sucks to have to fast forward commercials though. I watched season 1 and 2 on DVD from Netflix, caught up really quick. My wife and I were watching 2 or 3 episodes at a time. It was awesome to go from one major cliffhanger episode right to the next, especially season finales without having to wait weeks or more between episodes.

I'll take it one step further. The "others" that were dragging tailies away from the beach, the real bad ones that come and go without tracks, etc are a gang of the sailors from that ship, or their descendants or maybe another group of dharma scientists that went insane or something. I think there are three distinct groups on this island.

The "others" that Ethan and Godwin came from, maybe they aren't really as bad as everyone thinks? When have you seen them actually kill someone? Didn't Godwin want to free the guy that Anna Lucia had locked up that was actually innocent?

The Tailie kids, remember when the band of roving scary other people were seen by Michael dragging along the stuffed animal? I really doubt Benry and the others would dress up like that and wander around just to be seen all dirty. That would be dangerous if someone decided to confront them. They would dress up and play evil on their turf, their time of choosing. Like the hilltop scene.

I'm holding out that the others aren't who we think the others are.

Danielle (the French chick) will most certainly be back because of Alex, who is still with the Others, and who certainly didn't act last season like the Others were the good guys. Right?

And Goodwin killed that innocent guy, IIRC.

Are you sure about that? If I'm wrong, cool.

Recap from Television Withhout Pity:

That night. Guantana-lucia Bay. Nathan sits. Does he ever sleep? Maybe Ana-Lucia's got him too scared. He hears footsteps approach and tenses up as the pit is opened. But it's Goodwin, throwing a rope down and telling Nathan to grab it and he'll pull him up. Nathan eagerly does so, and Goodwin hands Nathan a package. "Ana-Lucia -- I think we all think that she's going to hurt you. Now, you need to get away from here. There's some fruit in there. Now, just go." Nathan seems hesitant, but I don't think a thank-you is unwarranted (well, not yet, anyway), and then asks which way to the beach. Goodwin I think is supposed to flex his arm while pointing and saying, "THAT way," to show off his bicep, but he just says, "That way, maybe five miles." Nathan walks past him -- and Goodwin grabs him from behind and snaps his neck with as little effort as it took to choke the chicken. Yeah, you heard me. I went there. Again. Then, in case we're not fully clued in yet that Goodwin is evil, he glances around all shifty-eyed.

Maybe I didn't phrase it right. I don't think they're good as in John Wayne or the Lone Ranger good riding in and saving the day on white horses, I think there's a third group that's worse.

I don't think there's really anyone on the island that should be throwing tea parties. They're all bad.

I thought the pirate looking image in the monitor was some sort of ghost or spirit. I figured he had something to do with the black cloud. I mean you can see faces in the black cloud when you watch that episode where it comes up to Eko.

My guess is that the tumor is Ben's or some character's that we haven't been introduced to yet.

The faces you see in the black smoke in that episode are faces from Eko's flashbacks/past.

I would speculate the cancer is on Ben. What ever powers the island holds they do not work on him (i.e. Rose and Locke being healed). It may not be Ben but it should be one of the 'others'.

The reason I say they do not work on Ben is he has lived there all his life.

Here Here. I just caught up too. I watched episodes 3&4 last night and read this thread this morning. Fast-forwarding thru commercials is annoying, I’ve been spoiled with the DVD’s. It’s definitely nice to be caught up though!

Okay, folks. Hold on to your hats. I had an epiphany last night.

What happens when you have a huge tumor growing on your spine? Well, I'm not doctor, but I'd wager that one potential side effect is paralysis. Who do we associate with paralysis? Locke.

I'm changing my tune. I think the x-rays are Locke's--from around 10 years prior when Jack's dad operated on him (my theory--not something we've seen). He was able to cut the cancer out, but not save his ability to walk.

This connects Jack'd dad to yeat another character in the show, far outstripping anyone else's over lapping "touches." So far, the dad has contact with: Jack, Claire, Ana Lucia, Sawyer....am I missing someone? Seems like I am.
