Here is another thought. Ben can not be one of the O6. Everyone seems to know the manifest very well, so it has to be someone on the manifest. I can buy that Kate got off and no one knows and is not considered one of the O6. I believe it has to be someone on the manifest. There could very well be move than 6 that get off. Juliet and Desmond may get off, but not be part of that 6 as well.

The flashback/flashforwards are getting confusing to me.

Help me ou with the timeline as we know it:

1. Locke blows the hatch, allowing the island to be momentary visible to the outside world before Des trips te failsafe.

2. Penny (and presumably the "rescuers" currently on the island) see it.

3. We haven't seen it yet, but Daniel, Miles and the British chick are recruited to go to the island to get Ben. They don't know of the O815 survivors.

4. Charlie shuts down the radio interference and the survivors radio the off-shore ship, the "rescuers" helicopter in.

***GAP IN OUR KNOWLEDGE OF CONTINUITY--CURRENT EPISODES TELLING THIS STORY***

5. The "rescuers" don't have any knowledge of going to the island.

6. A dummy plane crash is created, presumabaly by the same people who recruited the "rescue" team.

6. Six of the O815 survivors make it off the island. Their current factions do not affect which ones leave. (known: Jack, Kate, Hurley)

It's the last couple that have me a little confused. I think I have it right--the resue team has already been to the island, and then the dummy crash is established. Right? Or, are those people somehow otherwise tied to the island, they see the dummy crash and are affeced by the news and THEN are recruited? Follow what I'm saying? I think there are two possibilities here, and I'm curious to know how you interpurret the timeline.

I think that's right.

I think 3 of them worked all work for the same company and new the plane crasherd there all along. Remember, Desmond was late with the buttons and may have opened things up for a split second then. I think the reactions for some of the 4 were the way they were was because they new it was a farce. I think the piolet was the only one who did not know until he saw the fake crash and they recruited him when he called to keep him quiet. My thoery is, the people who want Ben faked the crash to keep people away from the island.

I thought the underwater plane was sort of suspicious too. It is more than likely planted because the pilot was attacked in the first episode and killed by the monster on the island. There are definitely two wrecks because there is wreckage on the island AND underwater. In earlier flashbacks of Desmond, it would appear that they knew where they were sending him, but Penny didn't.

The polar bear with the Dharma necklace leads me to believe that the island posseses an ancient, advanced native culture that has been around forever. They are fighting extinction and the people who find out about it must be eliminated. That would explain those who are trying to make sure that everyone on the flight was not only presumed dead, but eventually is. What does Hurley know that Jack wants him not to talk about in future flashes?

Again, the story has gotten way too deep, and it will be interesting to see how they actually wrap it all up. At this point, it appears there will be no way to tie up the loose ends to finish the story. No matter what, I cannot see this thing having a satifying ending of any sorts. The make it up as they go philosophy has got to stop. I would imagine we won't have any real answers until the final season, and they will probably be so simple that we should have seen it coming all along.

Locke is my guess for one of the O6, which they say will be revealed next week. He is the least expected to be one of them, and Hurley was with him and still one of them. Maybe it's Newman or Kramer! LOL

Okay, question. Locke mentions talking to Walt and that Walt saved him. I don't recall seeing Walt in that last episode last season. He wasn't in it, right? This is just something that Locke is telling us now, yes?

I want to know more about these new people, why they want Ben and how they know about everyone on the manifest.

He was in it just before the last episode. He stopped John from trying to shoot himself with a gun and he sent John on a mission (which we later learn was to kill Naomi). Walt was about a foot taller than we last saw him.

Bob, if you had played the online game you would've already known how they "found" the flight and how the group who set it up made it authentic (they manipulated a man whose fiance "died" in the crash while playing both sides).

You are correct, Ben shot Locke and left him for dead. When Locke told him what Jason said, "help me", Ben said something to the effect of Jason helping him now. We were left hanging as to how Locke got out of that situation.

In the first episode of this season, they did show Walt telling Locke to get up. So what was not shown last season was shown this season.

Walt and Michael will return this season, I believe in the 8th episode. They have not been on the show since the final episode of season one when Ben gave them the boat to get off the island. They have lended no importance to the overall story for two plus seasons, which is another reason to believe that the writing has gotten so deep that even the creators cannot logically wrap up anything.

With the exception of a few shows, series finales have a history of ending without any real satisfaction. Given an end date of 2010 along with the strike, I wonder if the show will ever have true closure, which probably means theatrical movies after the series wraps on ABC.

This is possibly a pessimistic angle, but what questions have really been answered? Like the numbers for example, do we really know what they mean? They don't get discussed in the episodes anymore, so what is their true relevance? They are sure to pop up again sometime.

Each week we are led to beleive they will provide answers. Each answer only raises more questions. Who would have thought the story could ever get this involved? I love the show and it's intrigue, but the confusion factor is getting overwhelming.

Thanks for the info. I had played the online game but not all the way through. I also did not remember seeing Walt in the final episode, just the first one this season. I might have overlooked that last year. I guess I need to get the DVD and watch the episodes again.

What is the time span of them being on the island now? I'm not trying to be a killjoy, just trying to figure out at least something, and getting concerned about closure on some issues. I don't want to see Hugo wake up from a bad dream he is having in the institution.

Thanks for the refresher. It's been so long.

I'm on the opposite side of you, I think. The storylines are too dense, interconnected, and purposeful not to have conclusions. At the time ABC announced the series running through 2010, Abrams was quoted as saying it was agreed upon because of the layout of the storyline. Abrams and Lindeloff have a complete storyline and a purpose for every character, even though it's unlikely they've figured out every detail.

The reason they agreed to end the show at a certain date was because of your very fear, which is what happened to X-Files. Did anyone care about X-Files after Season 7? I found it unbearable, and I had been a real disciple until Mulder left. Chris Carter never had an exit plan, never had a backup plan if Duchovny or Gillian Anderson bailed on the show.

Looks like I am not the only one LOST! LOL

Writers of LOST

Don't think the board allows you to embed. I extracted a link from the code.

Pretty good stuff. One of the big secrets to Lost is virtually everything, from the characters to the crazy plot lines, has been stolen from familiar books:

- Enlightenment philosophers such as Locke, Faraday, Hume, Rousseau, become literal characters on the show and play the role of plot antagonists. They are there to make sure the plots have depth. They are driven by well-reasoned -- but deeply conflicting -- motivations. They are also intensely personal motivations that do not require validation from group-think. In the Enlightenment worldview, correct thinking is possibly more important than life itself.

- All the mystical/weird elements of the show have been lifted from Stephen King and similar books such as A Wrinkle in Time, Through the Looking Glass, and The Wizard of Oz. I hate to be a cynic, but things like the smoke monster have little relevance. They're there just to keep us on our toes. They're red herrings, because ultimately they're not the reason we watch the show. We watch the show because we care about the characters.

- I believe the social structure is lifted directly from ancient mythology. For example, the reference to Dharma, which is Sanskrit for "natural law" or "the order of the cosmos." One of the more revealing points of the show was the reference to Virgil's Aeneid on the blast door. In the Aeneid the hero, Aeneas, flees Troy to Italy, but gets blown to the coast of Carthage, Rome's enemy. There he falls in love with the queen, Dido, creating a major conflict for him -- is he a man free to love the queen of his enemy, or is he a hero first bound by his duty to be virtuous to Rome. The Aeneid was so influential it become the text upon which Rome established its policy of honor and conquest, and later was received by Christendom to define virtuous servitude. Oh yes, it was also the very text upon which Dante's Inferno was based.

This is not a television show. It's a journey. It will have an end because the writers are locked into stories that should be familiar to us. We're watching real American mythology unfold 1 hour at a time. Every Thursday at 8 pm ... welcome to the camp fire. My name is Gaddabout. What's yours?

I guess it makes more sense when you put it like that. Human nature calls for a reason to everything and I think we look for it. Now I picture the end of the program being the whole group sitting around a campfire telling a big old story, LOL!

That video cracks me up. A turtle and Locke and Kate swithching brains, :D!

Ha, at this point I wouldn't know where to start. LOL Perhaps Hugo is skinny one day and there is a flashback to him in a gym. Wait, he'd have to be thin at the campfire in the final episode. Or, he has a flash forward about being thin. LOL

A bit of research required here for Losties:

The physicist Daniel Faraday from the freighter was originally cast as Russell Faraday, the same name of a character in Stephen King's The Stand.

Both Faraday's seem to be based on groundbreaking scientists Michael Faraday, who specialized in electricity, and who had the "Faraday Effect" named after him upon his discovery of a magnetic field bending light.

Get to work!

That makes sense with Daniel's line about the light being strange on the island. Perhaps my sister-in-law has time to post what she's read about Charlotte Lewis (CS Lewis) and finding the polar bear in the dese Tunisian desert.

Pretty interesting stuff.

I believe the CS Lewis references have been obvious (several Narnia references, probably including the polar bears), but there is a more obscure Lewis text out there. It's a space trilogy called Out of the Silent Planet. One of the stories is called Perelandra, which is about Venus being one big ocean with floating islands. Don't want to ruin the story, but it's based on the Adam/Eve story of the Bible, complete with the Fall of Man.

The spiritually lost/redemption stories have very strong Lewis-like themes in them.
