I don't even know what this means. Do you believe that they're lives were exactly the same but on the flight somehow it changed? Not sure how that makes any sense, nor why the writers would do that. What do you mean their histories are fabricated?

really? I think every flash-sideways is overwhelming proof that their lives and probably everyone in the world had their lives altered due to the explosion because of the butterfly effect. I mean... I really don't get what you mean by fabricated. Maybe an explanation of that will bridge the gap here because I can't figure out what you're talking about.

Each character has a "history" before the Oceanic 815 flight. But are those "histories" real, or were the planted in each character?

Say we consider the 2007 island stuff to be the "main" timeline. At the end of the series in 8 weeks, the MIB (or Jacob, or whoever) gives everyone a "do-over" starting on the Oceanic flight in 2004. So in theory, that timeline actually starts in 2004--and the stuff that happened to all those characters BEFORE 2004 isn't real, it's all false memories given to everyone to shape their "new" lives.

Overthinking? Absolutely. But implausible in the world of the show? Hardly.

Remember, this is one theory (albeit WAY out there) amongst many, many theories. I'm not claiming I'm right, I'm just throwing stuff out there. Didn't mean to offend anyone.

Where does Ben Linus and his father fall into this synopsis? Even in the alternate time line they knew about the island and left it. Seems to back the standard thinking that the rift occurred in 1977.

I do think it's way out there, but who knows. they show's way out there. I just think it's simpler than that. but not offended and hope I didn't offend.

They blew up the island in the 60s so the sideways characters never had their childhood encounters with Jacob. Hurley was never effected by the island numbers etc...

Jack has a like 15 year old son so that would at least take us back to at least 1989...im torn on the last episode while i like the fact that richards story was tied up i felt to use a whole episode on it with so little time left in the series was a mistake seemed like some unnecessary moments, seeing as the season has been pretty split like every other episode you are either with flockes group or the group on the beach, i just want the confrontation to be sooner rather than later so the actual end doesnt feel rushed.

You've got to be kidding. That was one of the best episodes of the entire series.

It seemed like for the first time since maybe season 4, every credited character had screen time, although the Constant wasn't on screen for very long. Next week's should be epic. Desmond eps are always really good.

DESMOND! YAY!

No talking. Let's just contemplate the return of Desmond and his brilliant Scottish accent.

not for me. i thought it was incredibly predictable and didn't really move the story forward all that much.

eh. is that why you thought it was one of the best? seeing every character speak doesn't really do it for me. i thought it was predictable and didn't move very much forward. Flocke v. Widmore... there's a war coming... no ****. We already knew Jin was going to end up in that fridge and Sayid was going to bust him out... and it just didn't do anything for me otherwise.

will be interested though to see what effect shot Sun has on island Sun.

Hm. I didn't say that, but ok.

You didn't find the subtle hint interesting with Sun hitting her head and not being able to speak English anymore?

AFAWK "Alt Sun" doesn't speak English as she had no reason to learn it.

We also might have learned that the candidate is down to three: Jack, Hugo, and Jin/Sun per Flocke, yet Kate might still be according to Jacob.

I didn't say you did Chap. I asked you if that was the case.

Absolutely not. I thought it was cool that we got to see everyone though. With that many characters, it's hard to do that and not muddle up the story. But I'm sure you're definitely aware of that, seeing as you have probably written ensemble pieces.

I'm not totally convinced that Sun can't UNDERSTAND English in the sideways--she can't speak it, definitely, but I wonder if it was a ruse using Mikhail as a translator.

Kate's name was crossed off, but Flocke was saying that there were still 3 candidates he didn't have--which are Jack, Hurley and Jin/Sun. He already has Sawyer and Sayid, who are still candidates.

That could be. Still a mystery.

Kate's name was crossed off in the cave, but not on the compass in the lighthouse. Further pushing the theory that the cave is the MIB sanctuary and not Jacobs and the scribblings on the walls is the MIB trying to figure out Jacobs targets.

Greatest line of the show, yet:

Sawyer asking FLocke why he didn't just turn into the smoke monster and fly to the other island instead of taking a boat. Flocke asked him "Now James, if I could do that I would still be in this island?" (or something like that)

Sawyer: "No, because that would be ridiculous."

Sawyer: What do you need a boat for? Can't you just turn into smoke and fly your ass across the water?

Flocke: Do you think if I could do that I would still be on this island?

Sawyer
: No...because that would be ridiculous.

Awesome writing and acting. Timing was perfect.

I think we specifically don't know whether she can or can't. IIRC originally we had no idea that she spoke English until Kate figured it out, and only afterwards did we see the backstory. All her flash-sideways relationship with Jin implies at the moment is that she probably didn't have the affair with Jae Lee. It's actually a pretty solid tease at this point. What would be really cool is if we find out that it's Jin who has secretly been learning English to try to escape from Mr. Paik with Sun...or some other twist.
