2) Who or what is Christian Shepherd?.
I thought he 'evil god' just used his corpse as a way to speak with the survivors.

Did nobody watch? A lot of answers tonight, and still more questions.
But a great episode nonetheless.
Great episode. Still don't know what all the "big Questions" that were answered that you guys are referring too.
- They weren't on the island by accident. Jacob brought them there (at least if we're to believe MIB). The numbers that Hugo kept repeating -- the ones the radio signal called out and the ones that were on the hatch -- were corresponding to the numbers Jacob put next to the names of the respective "candidates."
What makes you think Jacob put those numbers next to the names, or that Jacob even put those names up there, or that it was Jacob's cave at all?

When Sawyer asked what was with the numbers the MIB said "Jacob has a thing for numbers".
Why are we putting everything in spoiler tags when this thread has a spoiler warning?
Why are we supposed to care about the alt-universe where everybody is not the island and is carrying on with their lives?
If the point is to show that there are alternate universes why even care about the story at all?
Paradise? They were being hunted by people. They crashed on a plane where the majority of them died. Black smoke killed people. They were shooting each other.
It's been nothing but death and misery on this island.
I think the alt-universe/flash sideways world is actually where they all wind up, due to how things on the island end up finally playing out. It's the reset idea, but not due to detonating jughead. It will be due to the final battle that is building. Basically, by showing us the flash sideways world, they are already showing the ending, just in pieces. Just a theory - they have plenty of time to change it all around a few more cycles.
I initially thought in the premiere that they hadn't learned anything in the alt-sideways world (mostly due to Charlie on the plane and stuff), but that's not true so far. Alt-Locke is a far wiser man, Jack less bitter, etc. We'll see...

I tend to think that just about everything that MIB says is a lie.
