The part that had me saying to myself please don't let that be the "answer" was the idea that this light the mom was protecting and Jacob was to protect later, is the electro magnetism the island is known for.

To me that would be a huge letdown if the entire "secret" of the island is the electromagnetism? If that's it, Jacob can make Richard live forever because he's guarding the opening to the electromagnetism that will just leave me really disappointed.

I'm also very curious to see if the last episode and or the finale touches on Walt and Aaron and their supposedly having been "special" which has been completely forgotten for several seasons now?

You have to assume initially Jacob brought them both to the island (Aaron unborn) thinking they too were candidates and maybe the most qualified candidates since they were special, so to just completely ignore them all the way to the end would be a disappointment to me.

Someone on my favorite UCLA basketball board asked this question yesterday, what is going to be a bigger disappointment, the NCAA sanctions against USC, or the ending to LOST. :D

I thought the episode was a fascinating character piece, which is why I love the show. I don't really need many more answers. Much more willing to accept the mysterious nature of certain things for the sake of getting the emotional payoff from the characters.

Who sent the mother there?

How long has she been there?

Why must she guard the light?

How come no one ever found the light?

How did the mom backfill the well by herself in such a quick time?

How did she kill everyone by herself?

Answered some questions, but opened up for some more.

:sigh:

Just out of curiosity, when y'all read Jules Verne's Time Machine, were you as upset because there was little explanation about how the time machine worked in an era before computers and lasers and microscopic observation of dark matter?

Not being contentious or sarcastic. Just suggesting the only disappointment should be directed at unresolved characters, not a lack of scientific detail. YMMV.

I'm with you Matt. If you can't handle questions not being answered you are in for a big disappointment. "Every question I answer will simply lead to another question." Maybe that line was thrown in there for the viewers.

Jules from Pulp Fiction had a time machine?

I thought the episode was a waste of time and really didn't do anything to "reveal" the grand scheme of things. The only reason I can see for the entire episode is to intorduce the golden tunnel that probably will be the focus of the final episode in some fashion.

Other than that, I thought the episode was very flat...

Who sent the mother there?

Likely never find out

How long has she been there?

Alludes to a long, long time.

Why must she guard the light?

Probably never find out.

How come no one ever found the light?

Nobody found the lighthouse, either.

BUT, Locke did say he looked into the eye of the island, and it was beautiful. Cave looked like an eye.

How did the mom backfill the well by herself in such a quick time?

How did she kill everyone by herself?

I think it was pretty strongly pointing to her having a Smokey side. Destruction like at the temple, buried the well and "purged" the people, told Jacob going into the light was a fate worse than death and not to do it, and so Jacob sends his brother in there and Smokey emerges, she was killed before speaking with "the knife." My feeling is, she is the protector, and went in the light from curiosity and got the smokey powers. Both protector and something else in one. Jacob and MiB are split.

Answered some questions, but opened up for some more.

They aren't going to answer much more from the Origin story...

Who sent the mother there? Josiah Bartlett

How long has she been there? Since Matt Santos was elected president

Why must she guard the light? Marsellus Wallace instructed her to "watch over the glow, bitch" when he sent Jules back in time with the briefcase and stored it in the cave.

How come no one ever found the light? Everyone thought that Widmore was going to pay the power bill because the service had been set up in his name, but when he left, he basically said "screw 'em" and then APS put a lockout on the account.

How did the mom backfill the well by herself in such a quick time? The CAT 428 Backhoe/Loader with NO2 injectors

How did she kill everyone by herself? Laser Cats

Answered some questions, but opened up for some more.

:sigh:

Sometimes I think I'm the only one paying attention.

I had to laugh when I thought Desmond was going run over Locke again... Looks like Ben is back to his evil side again...

So my first question is did the smoke monster kill Richard or just deposit him somewhere else? Supposedly Richard can't die but whether that means smokey can't kill him we don't really know.

It sounds like the Widmore plan for Desmond involved somehow that Desmond being impervious to electromagnetism will allow him to kill Locke? So is there some plan to have Desmond lure Locke back in the "light" and then hold him there until it kills him.

Sunday should be interesting.

If this was leading into the big finale, why did it feel like a mid-season episode?

Because the finale will feel like an entire half of a season because of its running time... :D

By the way, the DVD/Blu version of the season will have another 20 minutes added to the already long finale when it comes out in August.

yeah, that was pretty meh, but like Chap said, they've got 2.5 hours of finale coming which means there's still a HELL of a lot that can happen. 2.5 hours... that's ludicrous for a finale... but i'm happy about it.

Can't wait. This season has been so awesome. I have to agree that alot can happen in that amount of time and alot has to. I mean, they have not explained exactly what Desmond in the side flashes is trying to do. They have not explained why they are having "cross memories" or what that means for everyone.

There is much yet to explain. I have some theories on why Desmond is needed on the island and what the other Desmond is doing. I am both sad and stoked at the same time for the finale.
